Reflecting object behind the subject when using strobe lights. Especially some stages in weddings decorated with flex printing screen. It is major problem to overcome the Reflection.

Your thoughts on how to filter yourself to get the best out of others goes beyond photography. People should apply that practice to all parts of their life. Great video.

Thanks Miguel! Good stuff. I think my OCD keeps me from outsourcing...I like to control every aspect. Also... Until I start making more money doing this I'll need to do it myself. My location also keeps me from charging enough to validate outsourcing. Luckily, I am my own worst critic, so I am always trying to get better every day!

Miguel, i like you a lot...but in US to be successful you have to choose always amazing models....and people will admire you for that . I never seen a youtuber from US that is known with "regular" people portraits...in Europe is about the story, the feeling, a message....
@AbbasBinYounas
@AbbasBinYounas Жыл бұрын
It's not only the US. You can't find a KZbinr from ANY country who's making portrait photography videos with "average" people.. everyone and their dog is shooting picture perfect models and teaching us how to shoot your average person in your family or friends or on the street... You can shoot these models with a phone camera from 2000s and the pictures will still be stunning; they're that perfect.
@MiguelQuilesJr
@MiguelQuilesJr Жыл бұрын
I hear you. Believe it or not, many of the people in my videos are "regular" people. Most of them aren't famous, and they either do modeling as a hobby or are trying to make their way in the industry. Unfortunately, viewers (especially here on KZbin) would rather watch a video with someone they consider to be a "beautiful person" than your everyday "regular" person. Given the amount of time and effor that it takes to make these videos, we have to make the kind of videos that appeal to what the audience wants to see. With that said, I think the underlying idea that the tips I'm talking about won't work with a "regular" person is incorrect. I work with regular people all the time (more than I do "beautiful" people actually), and the techniques don't change based on how the person looks. If anything, it works even better! I talk about this in another video, and I'm not saying you're doing this, don't fall into the trap of thinking that just because a technique is being shown with someone you deem as "beautiful", that it doesn't work with regular people. That's always at the forefront of my mind when I make my videos, and if the tips don't work with the majority of people I won't bother talking about it. I appreciate you sharing these thoughts and hopefully in the future people's behavior changes where they actually watch those videos with regular people as much as they do the ones that have beautiful people. ::fingers crossed::

Miguel, Would love, love, love to see you do these kind of portraits with "regular" people... which include people over 50, or overweight (or both).

@@AbbasBinYounas Could not agree more... most of the actual and potential clients I have are older (than 35-40), don't know how to pose and perhaps aren't dressed in a way that one sees on YT. It's really hard to find "how to" do portraits with really regular people.

"Adopt a student mindset" to me is very important as my learning style best fits the mentor/apprentice model. Question: I've thought about approaching a working photographer to ask if he/she would be open to having an assistant who would be paid with free learning by watching. Is that a reasonable thing to ask? I'm also going to apply to work for a studio that does school photographs and things like HS senior portraits, etc so I can learn studio and lighting techniques. Does that make sense? Thanks for your input.

Great question! This sounds like a video topic to me, so I might go that route. The short answer is that I would approach this by looking for working photographers in the area and offering to assist them at no charge. When they give you the opportunity, show up early, work hard and show value and you'll get invited to do it again and again. :)

I can agree with most you said, but one topic seems a bit off to me. You're talking about outsourcing, but that's maybe something a newbie shouldn't do at all (please keep the title of your video in mind here). Apart from someone being new(ish)) and not having the funding to outsourcing to begin with, it is important to know the entire process. Not just clicking that button and then handing it off to someone else. Even if you turn out not to be great at editing and the whole process that takes place after you transfer the footage to a computer, it is still valuable to spend some time to know what actually goes on. It can give you more insight in what was good about your footage, but more important, what needs improvement or what you shouldn't do at all. Yes, it takes time to dive into it,... but knowledge is a valuable investment.

Outsourcing is not feasible when you are just starting out. Firstly, you are likely not charging enough to justify the associated cost of outsourcing. On a second note, when are you going to learn if you keep outsourcing? Lastly, a good understanding of the editing process is beneficial when taking photos.
@MiguelQuilesJr
@MiguelQuilesJr Жыл бұрын
Outsourcing is definitely feasible, you just need to know how to do it. If your prices are too low, raise them by 10% and you're solid. As for learning, I agree that it's good to know how to do things but not if you're the type to spend all of your time on a computer and not in front of clients. Your time can be better spent after a certain point. As for the last point, a retoucher is just as beneficial as they can squeeze even more potential out of your images. Just my two cents, but what do I know 🤷

If you didn't go out and physically build your violin with raw materials, is the music you play any less your own? Many successful professionals you know outsources some or all of their work. It's still theirs (they took it) and the final image is still the result of the decisions they made as an artist. You don't have to do it yourself, but I can tell you that many others are doing it as part of their business. It's a great topic for a future video.
