I have a 2012 Transit Connect. I can make a recommendations to increase transmission service life. First, absolutely make sure you change the fluid on schedule. Next its how you use it. On the shifter is a button which you can use to turn the OD off. I recommend you turn OD off when driving at any speeds below 45mph, heck I usually keep OD off unless I'm doing a steady 50 or more for extended periods. Here's why I do this. These little engines do not have much torque at lower rpms. The transmissions are programmed to go into OD too early in my opinion. I guess for emissions reasons. Anyway the problem is lack of torque causes the transmission to shift down from OD too frequently at lower speeds. Then it shifts back up. Up and down, up and down..... it wears it out. Keep it out of OD at lower speeds, especially in higher traffic conditions. (note, the OD on function will always switch back to on after restarting the engine so if needed, you have to turn it back off each time you start it back up). Next, driving habits of taking your foot all the way off the gas pedal and then back on again also cause unnecessary wear on the transmission. When you pull your foot all the way off, the throttle position sensor unlocks to torque converter. Then you step down again and it locks back up. It's unnecessary wear. If you have to back off the throttle momentarily thats fine, but if you can avoid pulling your foot all the off, it will help prevent unnecessary unlocking and locking of the torque converter. Pull back but keep you foot ever so slightly down and the converter will stay locked.

Well this is one of the most informative, straightforward, transit connect precautionary videos that I've seen. She doesn't glam up or dramatize the drawbacks or anything that makes me wanna pull out my hair! ( That happens when the person in the video likes the sound of his or her voice) VERY HELPFUL. VERY PROFESSIONAL. great job! New subscriber! That's me!

2012 with 175000 miles on it, I bought it with 140000 miles and so far I’ve had to replace the cooling fan, water outlet( gasket was leaking all the coolant), harmonic balancer, motor mounts and that’s it still going strong I try to drive within 2 to 3 rpm’s and that’s has helped a lot.

Another common issue I've encountered is a bad door ajar switch, which intermittently prevents you from locking the doors. It's part of the door latch assembly, which was a poor design considering how frequently the switches go bad. I opted for the simple fix of connecting two wires at the harness to make it think the door is always closed, so it no longer is an issue with the door locking and warning chimes going off while driving.

I would definitely add "Valve Cover Gasket". Oil passes through gasket to the spark plugs causing rough idle. Very common and pretty easy/cheap fix.

@josephtutor8901 there are several videos on it. The only two places you put a small dab of silicone is where there's a joint in the head, left side I believe. I highly advise to buy an OEM gasket from Ford. The aftermarket ones tend to fail quicker. Same engine in the Ford Focus.

I have a 2013 I bought new and it has 118k miles on the odometer. So far I’ve had a sliding door come off, replaced the water pump, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, wheel bearings, engine mount, and 4-5 sets of tires and brakes. Overall it’s been a money maker, operating costs are still less than half of my old f250.

As far as the transmission, often its just the shift solenoids that go bad, and have to be replaced. They are easy to replace, just by dropping the transmission pan

I love my 2010 xlt overheated second day I bought it. -The fix was to replace “coolant outlet pipe” (top right side of engine) it was losing out coolant there also waterpump seal failed too, behind plastic shroud could see it weeping so was leaking at both those points - overheated it two years later going up a long steep hill. Coolant hose tear could fit 4 fingers it. Replaced it (it’s the one with 3 hoses attached to T fitting in the front left engine bay. - change valve cover gasket. The issue I have not fixed yet is powersteering leak. I top off every 3 months I honestly love this van it’s got 194k

We had 2 of these in Pittsburgh, Pa at my old shop. They were horrible on wet / brick roads “hills”. They handle horrible on the highway in winds. I swear the ones we had were 3 speed. It was either Redline or Lugging. Gas Mileage wasn’t good either. Just a bad design/weight ratio. If it had an “AWD - 4spd Manual Transmission option then you might have something.

You forgot to mention that these (and most newer FORD transmissions) are electronically adaptable meaning, they can sense who is driving the Van and how they drive and thus "adapt" thus setting codes for individual drivers. Before assuming you got a problem with weird shifting - clear the codes.

All of these eventually need the top motor mount replaced. It can make it seem like the car has major issues. But a new motor mount will make it drive smooth as new. Also the front wheel bearings go bad quickly

@@04dram04 yes it does wonders & is a pretty simple fix but make sure you get the oem mount after reading many comments non-Ford brand mounts disengrates prematurely like less than a year which is ridiculous so spend the dough for the ford fomo one which has a hydralic damper or whatever it's called vs the other brands. When I bought mine there was one only one other brand than ford that also has the hydraulic damper but just go fomo ford.

I own one of these I use it for my personal use and business. The only thing I haven't encouraged is the injector issues. I will add to this that at 220k miles the valve seals start leaking oil. Eventually it will get bad enough to foul out the plugs. Mine started fouling plugs at 240k miles plus the trans started slipping like this lady says. Ended up putting a reman engine and trans in it.

3:56 my 2013 TC overheated when I was idling waiting at an airport waiting to pick someone up, and I wasn't paying attention to the temperature gauge skyrocketing. The plastic heater hose connector they use on these things spontaneously blew apart under the temperature and pressure stress, making for a fine display of steam and smoke. It seems the fans won't come on from temperature so maybe that cylinder head temp sensor or PCM control needs looking into. In the meantime I just turn on the AC when I'm idling to conveniently keep the temperature in control, so it switches the condenser fan on by default. 4:42 Note: Components 16 and 17 in the engine compartment fuse box are the cooling fan low speed and high speed relays, not fuses

I was on a 2hr drive to the coast, and I had 15mph head winds. I used 3/4 tank of gas in that trip...lol..
