I have a 2010 gmc acadia. Kept throwing a p0449 code. Replaced solenoid underhood , replaced vent solenoid on top of the gas tank and bought a new gas cap from the dealer. Nothing was fixing it. Found a forum and was told to look at the wiring harness outside, under the drivers side. Sure enough had two wires broke in two. No more check engine light. Just wanted to share so No one else would go through what I did.

In the last year and a half we've sold about 12 of these vehicles. Those being the Acadia, the Traverse and the Buick Enclave. Of the 12, nine of them needed timing chain replacements before we could sell them. We do all the work in house thankfully and that seriously cuts down on the cost of repair. As an example our local Chevy dealer wanted $3,325 to do the timing service on a 2010 Acadia 3.6. If you are mechanically inclined and able to do this job yourself, and it is quite the job, my one word of caution to you is do not buy your timing set from Autozone. We purchase the first two sets from them and had tensioner failures. They did cover the cost of Labor to repair the job but it really sucked to have to do it again. Use Cloyes brand timing sets which I feel are excellent quality. Don't forget to replace your water pump while you're in there because you certainly wouldn't want to have to take the front of that engine apart again should you have a water pump failure in the future.

190K on my 2012 Acadia Denali, It's been a good car. I've done all the scheduled maintenance according to the manual. Replaced suspension at 175K. Replaced an ignition coil at 90K and 130K miles. I have experienced torque converter issues on an incline at 43mph or 21 mph but I've learned to drive around it by either dropping speed or accelerating past the gear changes on those inclined roads I drive. The Acadia likes acceleration around 3-4K rpm. Driving it like a grandma with 2-3K rpm acceleration the carbon will build up on valves. I've learned that it doesn't like 4-5K rpm or higher when accelerating, overheats the ignition coils and the car will misfire. Drive it too hard and you will need to replace an ignition coil or two. I asked the mechanic the first time why my ignition coil went out and he said it could be bad gas. So I always bought Shell or Chevron gas from the same gas station. After the second coil went out I realized it was because of my driving habit on long drives down highways with traffic lights and accelerating too fast. I also clean the PCV valve every 60K miles. The PCV valve isn't a true valve just a cylinder with one pinhole on one side and two pinholes on the other (this will save your catalytic converter). You know it's time to clean when you get oil in the air intake pipe, there is a little oil catch pouch just before the throttle body.

I currently own a 2011 Acadia, I bought it in 19 and since then I have had the ac compressor clutch go bad and the power steering pump go bad, the serpentine belt snapped twice (back to the bad clutch on the ac compressor), one mirror motor go bad and the master switch array. And probably a few more things I forgot to mention. I would never recommend buying this car to anyone, but if you do, theses are some really good people to help you figure out how to fix the wide range of problems to come.

I just got rid of my 09 Acadia. Yes it was a beautiful truck but had way too many issues. I replaced the whole transmission on it (at barely 100k miles) and numerous other repairs. After that, I had an oil leak, needed a bank 2 new cat converter and got a camshaft code last week. That was it for me. I am still beyond furious that I wasted all of that money on this car. I spent at least 7k in repairs In less than 1 year. I will never buy a GMC (or any GM car for that matter) for as long as I live. Worst mistake of my life.

I have had nothing but electrical problems with my 2011 Acadia. Now, the battery is dead and we can't remove it to replace because the passenger seat is too far back! The ac compressor took a dump, the power steering leaks, the door locks don't work, every dummy light is on...and the list goes on. I will NEVER buy a GMC ever again!!

I just had a timing belt issue on my 2012 GMC Acadia Denali. Bought new in 2012. Meticulously maintained throughout. Never had one issue until a month ago. Wife driving, Acadia flashing Traction Control issue on dash panel, Acadia dies. Go to her rescue, switch vehicles and have it towed to mechanic. Piston slapped spark plugs. Timing chains were the cause. 74,000 miles on engine. Had to put new Reman back in. Just got it back yesterday 6/24/21. $6400.00 for the replacement and that included a new water pump just for precautionary issues in the future. IMOP, GM , should be held accountable for their faulty products. 74,000 miles is a slap in the face to consumers. This is not acceptable. For what I paid for this vehicle it should last 300,000 miles. This vehicle has been pampered since day one.

You must have mistyped or misunderstood your mechanic. The timing chain is not relative to how far the pistons move up and down so there is no way that the piston can make contact with the spark plugs. It must have made contact with the valves which got out of time due to the slack in the chain which usually just means a head job unless the piston rod got bent during the incident which can be checked.

As an '08 Acadia owner who has done all of his own maintenance and mechanical work I can tell you that this person knows exactly what he is talking about. I rebuilt my transmission due to the failed 35Rclutch wavy plate. I replaced the trans control module as well. The debris ruined a couple of other parts as well in the trans. I think it cost me around $400 for the trans parts and another maybe 500 bucks for the transmission control module. I have been through a couple of steering racks and had the steering rack leakage and also the small valve that varies the steering stiffness with speed. I've gone through several alternators and a power steering pump. I've gone through two evap purge valves. I have replaced the timing chains once at 150k had to drop the engine. Went ahead and replaced the water pump while I was at it.

Another thing you need to look at are the drains in the sunroof that easily clog. The drain hoses run down both a pillars. Women's hand lotion will remove the paint off of the air conditioner controls. Easy to replace. The passenger side airbag seat sensor goes bad. The gauge cluster mileage readout goes bad. And I've had power lift gate problems ever since they loaded in that new software that was supposed to prevent people from getting hurt.

@@Jimicruz34 Had same issue on our 2012 Acadia Denali (common on almost all Acadias) which caused the high-pressure A/C hose to leak at fitting to compressor. This is a result of the front engine mount that breaks due to the very high engine torque this beast produces!! Engine torques up on front engine mount under hard accelerator use, thus stretching the high pressure hose tight as a bow string and pulling it out of the metal fitting!!! The motor mount fails early on and most folks blame the darn A/C components - they are not the cause!! Engine mounts go bad and are not too difficult for a guy to replace in your garage with a floor jack. These need to be designed so that failure occurs out around 200K miles where we wouldn't mind replacing them. Same thing happened on my '88 Mustang GT due to the high torque that engine creates too!! The Acadia's engine produces somewhere near 285 hp - not a slow machine at all. The Mustang GT made 225 hp in that 5.0 liter engine!!

I still have a 2007 Saturn Outlook. It has 205k on it, been in two serious accidents and runs great. I just replaced the front struts and strut mounts. I have had the trans rebuilt at 175k. I put an alternator on at 195k. Just changed the water pump today at 205k. I have the rear AC blocked off due to leak. The front AC has a slow leak and I just top it off every few months. Had the timing chains done under recall at 120k. Its long paid for, AWD, tows small trailers and has massive space. I just keep repairing it. The other day I needed the front struts and front strut mounts redone. I got two new front tires and aligment done at the same time. It was about $1050 total. When discussing why I would put $1050 into a 2007 SUV with a coworker I thought about it....because its paid for. It tough to cough up $300 or $700 or even $1500 for repairs on an old car. But if I where to purchase a new one...its $600+ a month...month after month after month for 6 or 7 years. When i do replace it though it will likely not be another GM product. The warranty is just not competitive any longer and the price is out of line with the warranty and quality.

Great video. This also applies to Saturn Vues with the 3.6l. Another common problem is the PCV valves becoming clogged because the holes in them are too small. The clogging causes oil to pool up in the intake as well as oil loss and clogged cats. I recently cleaned and drilled out mine.

One of my customers has an 08 Acadia. It was constantly leaking oil and had oil reversion into the throttle body. Finally found that the PCV valve was completely plugged, causing excessive crankcase pressure and forcing oil out of the oil pan pretty much everywhere it could. Replaced the valve and modified the inlet and outlet holes by drilling them oversized, problem solved. Just a heads up if your leaking out the front seal and the air box intake tube is full of oil.

I have already had the trans rebuilt and I have sworn not to do anything else serious to it but this is odd and I was told to pay 450.00 to put my old radio back in. ( Dealership repaired) then have replaced drive axels (front) tie rods, sway bars, struts, upper and lower control arms, etc... Then water issues.... BLOW VENTS OUT EVERY 6 MONTHS, in the sunroof ... Hood liner fills with water, rain, car wash, etc... Sap and tree debris do clog these drains. Previous owner has jasper transmission put in, now car stuck in driveway, sounds like it shifts to reverse and drive but nothing but engine rev. Fluid level has been full, not had to add, yes click in dash when shifting. Very depressing, GMC used to be a quality vehicle long ago!!

In 2015, bought a 2012 Acadia SLE2 with 22k miles that had been turned in from a lease. It was almost perfect, well maintained and had an excellent carfax history. In 2018, it had 40k miles and the air conditioning system that lead to the rear of the cabin developed a leak. With the extended warranty, it was projected that my out of pocket cost would be around $1.8k. The extended warranty was soon to be due for a renewal at $3.5k for another 3 years. I traded it in without the AC repair and got a 2019 Acadia. Fair winds and following seas to all.

But that mileage is NOTHING if the vehicle is well maintained and in good physical and cosmetic condition. Stop thinking that 200k is the end of life for cars. It’s not. Replace the faulty trans and keep on rolling. Replace an aging engine and keep on rolling. My 2014 Acadia has 104k on it and is MINT inside and out and I have 2 small kids TRYING to destroy it CONSTANTLY. No issues with my Acadia. I personally service it more frequently then needed because it’s a POS GM product but I love it’s design and features so we keep the wheels turning.

2007 Saturn Outlook (Same as Acadia) I had the Evap purge go out, easy fix. Been a real good car, 172,000 miles on it. The MAF sensor went out recently wreaking havoc but fixed that easily, One of the stupidest things I had go wrong was a PCV cap. The rubber cracked and it fell off causing a vacuum leak. Shut down my stabilitrak, traction control and threw 3 codes. Went and bought new rubber caps and it drives like new. Changed my trans fluid every 50,000 not trans problems. The most important thing for these vehicles or any vehicle is fluid changes. Oil Every 5,000 miles for these and check the oil regularly, these engines do burn oil even if they're in top shape(Look in the duct for the air box, you'll find oil blown out from the intake in there too) but ignore the rest of the recommendations. Change the trans fluid every 50,000, not 150,000 like the book says. Change the antifreeze every 5 years (Not 10) Honestly I should get a new car because the Saturn is up there in age but I feel as if I could get another 5 trouble free years out of it. If I have it 20 years I'll definitely have gotten my money's worth out of it.

74,000 miles GMC Acadia Denali. Timing belt issues. Piston slapped plug, new engine needed. Maintained precisely to manufacturers specs. My Mechanic said this is one of the main issues with the Acadia engine. He has 4 on his lot waiting for engine and or transmission swap outs. It’s an issue with GM not the consumer.

Bought our 2015 Acadia in the spring of 2018 with 35k miles. Proactive and preventative maintenance is CRUCIAL with this power train. I've always changed the oil @ 4k mile intervals with full synthetic, and drain/fill the transmission fluid every 10k miles. I run a bottle of fuel injection cleaner every 10k miles, and I changed spark plugs at 50k and 100k miles. Fluid changes are as simple as turning a drain bolt and refilling the fluid. The Acadia just rolled over 105k miles and she's still kicking strong. Changing the oil at 4k miles instead of 5k mile intervals has only cost me about 4 extra oil changes over the last 6 years. The cost/benefit is clearly on your side if you consider having to replace a timing belt or replacing a transmission. While this is far from GM's best design, it has served our family well. *Also noteworthy* I have replaced all four wheel bearings (fwd). I feel that is reasonable for a vehicle with just over 100k miles.

Another common failure is the AUX AC line that leaves the firewall. The vapor line,(bigger of the two AC lines) get rubbed on by the power steering hose with a steel band clamp in the middle of the hose. This steel clap will over time rub a pin hole into the aluminum tube. This is an EXTREMELY expensive repair.
@Frankenslide
@Frankenslide 3 жыл бұрын
this only happens if that clamp is not bolted on to its factory position after once been removed. a lot of times, mechanics working in the area will not put it back in its proper spot and bolt it down and it will wear on the ac line.

Yes, I had the transmission/waveplate issue at about 80K miles (fixed under a bulletin) and the power steering pump leakage at about 60K (paid for fix myself). Also had a radio failure (volume control issues) around 40K and never fixed. Another repair video said these failures were common. Their troubleshooting found that GM had installed SOME analog amplifiers in cars equipped with digital radios. I'm looking to do the cheapest radio replacement solution someday (speakers are fine) once I figure what my options are.

I’ve worked at a GM DEALERSHIP for 4 years and I have never seen a car or SUV transmission serviced, truck owners have a better understanding of maintenance it seems. I can TESTIFY that absolutely ZERO customers I have ever seen come into a dealership service their vehicle properly and regularly. This would alleviate half if not ALL problems on some vehicles. Granted some vehicles just have inherent issues. The transmissions in these Acadias will go forever if serviced properly and not abused. I worked at a Dodge dealership for 14 years and have serviced and overhauled many transmissions from that manufacturer which has notoriously weak transmissions. I stand by my statement that regular servicing coupled with SANE driving habits will keep even MOST DODGE/ Chrysler transmissions living a long and happy life. ALL newer automotive engines with timing chains and oil pressure chain tensioners REQUIRE punctual regular engine service and even engine crankcase FLUSHES periodically to ensure timing chain longevity. No one believes in proper service anymore!!! Service your freaking HI-Revving and hi- output engines people!!! They work extremely hard and are subject to much higher temperatures and pressures and stresses than your dads old single cam V6 Buick Skylark. Service your DAMN vehicles. If you own a vehicle and want it to last you will spend twice the amount of money into preventative maintenance than you currently are doing!!!

My 2010 Acadia was left (willed) to me and had just 3000 miles. I have been waiting for the Transmission problems after researching the vehicle and it’s $1000 ECM for the transmission. Now all at once at 35k miles, the panel lights and gages flash repeatedly during operation, and Traction Control warnings show, and the transmission warning light showed-at once. The foreknowledge coupled with now clunky operation, I just feel like the GMC Service Dept is grinning and gleefully rubbing their hands as I set my appointment and brace for thousands of dollars in repairs. I’m thankful for the “free” vehicle, but I better understand now why people buy foreign cars that use the same proven equipment which had all of the kinks worked-out.

Thanks a bunch.. I have an 08.. Have you heard of any mysterious leak issues? I'm finding water in the wire cables that plug into the pillar of the door jams. Trying to find the source of the leak.. wondering if it's the roof racks?

I have an 07 and have had leak issues as well. I had water coming in on my lap all of a sudden after a big rain out of the pillars and from under the passenger side dash area. There are drain tubes that are connected to the sunroof from what I was told. These can get clogged or crack and need to be blown out or replaced. Luckily I didn't have to pay for my broken one or blow out because I had just bought it used, 2.5yrs ago, and the dealership took care of it thankfully. A while back I had a few drips and so when I went for my last oil change I asked them to blow out the drain tubes. They looked at me like I had three heads! This was a GMC dealership mind you. Once I explained it to them a mechanic said it could cost $650 to do. Still wasn't sure if they got what was talking about. I didn't do it and I haven't had any issues since, but every time it rains I cringe when I go drive it the next day. If you listen you can hear the water sloshing around trying to find the drain holes and you hope that's where the water goes. Lol. I haven't had any issues with it compromising any electrical thankfully. Try the Arcadia forums for more advice or call up the GMC dealership. Maybe where you are they have had more experience with it. I'm in AZ so it doesn't rain all the time. Good luck.

09 Acadia, Timing chain at 60-65K Range. Wave plate failed at 90K fixed under warranty due to bulletin. Misfire on 1, replaced all plugs and coil packs (maintenance in my eyes) but this killed one of the converters so I had to replace them. Used ebay parts but having an issue getting the Y pipe to seal on the front converter so need to visit a muffler shop. Other than that, it has the moan in the power steering system, that's been an issue forever, seeping a little oil. Changed engine mounts, fixed the wiring harness at the TCM, watch the bend in the wires there, they wear and corrosion gets in. Did struts, brakes, and oil changes and its been good otherwise. Bought it with 5K miles on it and has over 130K now.

2014 Acadia FWD with 150,600 or so miles on it, rear brake calipers have locked up twice so far, just got it out of the shop with a $3000 bill... broken engine mount, bad purge valve, oil leak from filter housing gasket, blown front struts, new sway bar links and an "exploded" (the mechanic's description) AC compressor besides 2 new tires, and alignment, new battery and routine oil change. Having said that, the only problems I had with the vehicle before about 120,000 miles were the calipers. From most of the comments on here, it sounds like I got pretty lucky... Since I got her out of the shop, she runs and drives as good as the day I bought her brand new with 9 miles on the odometer.

You left out the issue they had with the PCV system clogging because the PCV valve is just a can with tin holes with no check valve inside like standard PCV valves have. It would clog and cause oil in the intake boot among other problems. Low oil levels for one caused the timing chains to overheat and stretch.

2014 Acadia - Had to replace purge valve, the actual nipple for the purge hose was broken off at 45,000 mile mark i assumed from vibration of ther hose itself. So I strapped the purge hose to the air hose from the air cleaner to the crankcase. At 74,000 miles I filled up with gas and then the car would not start. I eventually got it running again and discovered that air hose I strapped to the purge hose pulled away from the crankcase and caused P0171 p0174 and P0496 codes. so in summary, avoid the GMC Acadia, Chevrolet traverse, and Buick enclave made before 2017 at all cost unless you would like a maintenance nightmare when the car gets

I am trying to decide if I want Acadia 2-3 yrs old or a Toyota same age by trying to see the problems with 2-3 yrs old models. I know Toyota will run FOREVER AND A DAY.🧐🧐😁😁

Good, clear video. GMC isn't the bogeyman - they're in the top third of least expensive cars to maintain. Unfortunately, most owners in the US adhere to the old adage of "if it's not broke then don't fix it" instead of following the maintenance schedule. Ask any mechanic.
