I will be trying this on my OUTLOOK. Paid over 1500 to dealer to fix a problem with transmission not shifting from 1st to 2nd. Still dont' know what i paid for because IT STILL DOES IT. The only thing that worked was what many saturn owners commented on videos like this. Turn the care off and let it rest for 15-30 minutes. Amazingly that little bit of advice works EVERY TIME. So it's obvious to me this has something to do with the temperature of the transmission and allowing it cool down. Save your money dealer don't do like I did.

Sounds like a problem with the electronic throttle body, transmission solenoid(s), or PCM/TCU. Your vehicle is going into limp mode to protect itself from further damage. I experienced a lot of stability track lights intermittently cycling on and off for a period of time, then one day the vehicle down shifted while I was driving on the freeway. I couldn't get it to go faster than 25mph. I was able to pull over and let it rest for a while then it shifted fine. I ended up replacing the electronic throttle body and it has been fine every since. Its been 3-4 years ago since I replaced it.

Well it does help just about any vehicle if the transmission fluid runs through the radiator. Then that way you never have to worry about this situation because it happens to everything even people’s beloved Hondas and Toyotas

The 2007-2010 Saturn outlooks transmission was recalled so I wonder if the original owner never replaced it. There's no way the dealership would offer you a new transmission for free now. Probably best off getting a new one from a small local trusted transmission shop. Someone who can put in their own transmission is probably even better then getting it from the dealer anyway.

👍 Buick Enclave. They recommend 5k mile or less oil changes. Will need timing chain at 130k otherwise. We end up replacing the engine after buying a used one at 138k (had no idea). My Buicks before (3.8l) were tanks. Done the head light , what a pain.

Sorry to hear that but glad the video helped I wish I could recommend a full-size SUV for you the only ones that I would say that generally don’t have large problems like the big three are the Toyota and Lexus but they are generally very expensive . I will say that the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Full-size are excellent excellent suvs, The Honda pilot and Acura MDX more comparable to the Saturn Vue and GMC Acadia , Hondas and Acuras are generally very very good as well I hope that helps good luck in your search

Gm used to have a metal heat exchanger inside the radiator for transmission fluid. I don't know if this is still the case but I think transmission failure is from poor preventive maintenance. People need to change their transmission fluid every 50k miles or even sooner.

I don't know. All I know is I got my saturn outlooks transmission replaced with about 60 thousand miles on it. GM ended up recalling it about a year later offering to replace it for free after I had spent 4 grand on the replacement. Ended up sending them the record of my replacement and got reimbursed for it. Not sure what transmission I have in there to be honest. I got it from a small transmission shop near me and they just said they could put in a 3 year warranty 6 speed automatic brand new transmission and hooked me up. Been very satisfied ever since. Held up great.

They’re made by the big three and they have the big three problems Engines Transmissions And Catalytic Converter‘S is the most expensive things to replace…. @@sharpcarco Mine's got 134,000 miles on it and still running strong. Gotta have the catalytic converters replaced but besides that it hasn't been horrible. I wish GM would put more work into making quality parts though. I should not have to replace the catalytic converters this early. Hopefully it'll last a long time though. Given the way it's ran I'm hoping it'll run for a long time to come.

It’s too late for me… 137,000 miles on my 2017 Acadia in about six years and the transmission is showing signs of failing. Primarily driven in the flat California Valley for the first four years, I switched to doing service calls in San Francisco Which were highly lucrative, but dragging a 6001 lb. beast up and down those 30%-40% grades took its toll. I’m switching to a Chevy bolt for my work in the city (EV’s are ideally suited to steep up-and-down grades), and keeping this Acadia because it is a beautiful car, but it’s getting a low mileage transmission and an oil cooler! But if anyone asks, I tell them that it reminds me of my 2002 Audi A6 AllRoad when it comes to maintenance. Who would a thunk, right?

Thank you for putting this up I own an Acadia I am trying to find a TSB to show the place were I purchased this vehicle and I am having cooling and transmission issues and I would like to show them a TSB if its available since both the radiator and Transmission are covered under their limited warranty. Do you know if there is a TSB on this?

I recommend that procedure on any vehicle that the transmission fluid flows through the radiator because they can all do that. It happens with Toyotas and Hondas all the time. At least an older models it did

I didn't realize the transmission fluid was going through a plastic tank in the radiator......you are right, any water would ruin your transmission.....would you recommend bypassing the rad cooler all together?

I think I asked a stupid question....many new cars have the transmission cooler integrated with the A/C condenser. I have a Dodge Grand Caravan and the tranny cooler lines go into the A/C condenser and not the rad. I think that by-passing the rad cooler all together and install a large good quality auxiliary transmission cooler would be better and safer. Great information.

I have a 2008 GMC Acadia. I accelerated onto the highway, the check engine light came on and it went into low gear. Now it won't shift into drive. When in park, it shifts hard out of park and the arm is crooked.

Sounds like something fairly simple take it to your local transmission shop they will probably be able to fix it without a huge cost

Great idea! Can u answer me this question. What if my transmission does NOT slip but I get the slight body shudder when accelerating at certain speeds. It is not constant. It is worse once the tranny heats up. 2007 Acadia with 227k miles and 41 records for service from dealer. I just bought this car at auction for $1600 and it is mint.

More than likely your torque converter has a small defect it can last up to years before they actually goes bad . I still recommend a transmission cooler

Clay Rogers HAPPY EASTER Love your videos. I get quite a few good leads on repairs, and definitely a few good tricks to make my life easier. Will cooler temps possibly slow the deterioration of the torque converter? I have been chasing everything else, i don't want to do the torque converter, because If do I will not put the tranny back without doing the wave plates, and the filter that CAN'T be changed without removing the trans!! BUT.... I've also been reading the intermittent but constant shudder could be rack and pinion bushings? Any thoughts? I have replaced the entire front end and the stealership replaced the engine (thankfully before I did the front end lol). Do shudder repair additives actually help? If so do double doses help?

I think you’re confusing that with low coolant. That’s common when your heater core does not have enough fluid running through it. I would check your coolant level

Yes I am. The only problem with doing that is that the transmission does not get as warm. When you bypass the radiator you don’t have the possibility of water getting into the transmission fluid. But then the transmission fluid doesn’t heat up as quickly and I don’t know what kind of situation that creates but me personally I always bypass the radiator when I know the radiators split on the inside. This is what I do on my personal vehicles or customers vehicles once they know that I take no responsibility for future problems .I never have an issue with it but does not mean it is the proper way to do it. just the Clay way.

I’m very sorry to hear that you do not need to install a different transmission cooler it will not helping your situation I would recommend you take it to a transmission repair shop and have them take a look these are notoriously bad transmissions in these vehicles so it wouldn’t surprise me if your transmission is bad I’m very sorry to say

The best place that I know of is bobs transmission near the corner of Eastern and 28th St. There are a couple in town but this is the one that I personally have been going to for over 15 years talk to Mike and tell him that Clay sent you over there he will take very good care of you and give you a great warranty and they will be the least expensive in town. sorry that’s not something that I personally do all right be happy to help you myself

My 2010 acadia drives fine when cold but when it gets warm, it'll shift harder into first gear. There's no clunk or noises, it just jerks, if I take off and let off the gas it'll shift itself like I don't even know it happened, but if I keep my foot on the gas it'll do that jerk for only that first shift. I was thinking bad transmission fluid but is that something that could be caused by this

Well it could be a shift solenoid but I would start with changing the transmission fluid and filter make sure you flush the system I would also recommend installing an aftermarket transmission cooler. I’m not a super transmission tech but if I was having that go on with my vehicle I would definitely change the fluid and filter make sure you add the appropriate level of transmission fluid as well

@@sharpcarco I'll be starting with that most definitely. I can't find a shift solenoid anywhere on autozlme for it. Also it's a non serviceable filter. The entire Trans needs removed and split open to get to the filter

Hi Clay, my husband has a 2013 Acadia. We have gone through 3 transmissions and only had it for about a year. His transmission went bad. It would do a hard shift from park to drive. Then it would jerk when he accelerated from red lights. After getting the transmissions fixed, almost to the day 3 months later he would experience the same things again. We are going on our 4th transmission. Luckily we still have a warranty. But do you know what could be making his transmissions go bad, so quickly?

Yes I highly recommend bypassing it and flushing your transmission fluid and replacing it that’s going to lead to serious problems very soon

I have the "tow package" that supposedly gets me transmission cooler. Is it the same crappy cooler you're talking about that should be bypassed. Tow package description claimed "upgraded trans cooling lines, shift point programming"

You definitely need to change the radiator or put a cooler on it immediately if you continue to drive it that way you will be needing a very expensive transmission you have blockage somewhere you should also replace the transmission filter at the same time as well I personally recommend a new transmission cooler but that’s just my opinion

@@sharpcarco There is no actual filter for the transmission since it is a sealed unit, they pretty much use expanded metal mesh as the filter.

So I recently bought a 2011 GMC Acadia from an auction at the bank I worked at . Everything was smooth until I decide to take it to lunch and it turned off on me in the highway . It was low on gas and we thought that might be the reason it turned off on us . We then filled it up and it was working fine but then it started shaking and wanted to turn off on me so then I parked it again . Then at night I went out try to crank it see if it will work and it didn’t want to stay on the headlights were flickering and then it would die on me . Any ideas of what it might be ? I had a ob2 diagnostics ran on it and it showed a camshaft sensores need to be replaced, but honestly wouldn’t tell if it’s that , the battery or maybe even the transmission any advice need to get ready to sell !!

Well I’m sorry to hear that but I think it’s possible Your way overthinking it The reason it was stumbling while it was on the highway was because the battery was dying more than likely your alternator is going out and be because the battery is not very good it is on able to keep up of course this is just a text message and I can’t know for certain but it’s a good possibility I hope that’s helpful and I wish you the best of luck

Did you get this code after disconnecting the steering and putting it all back together c0710-00 Steering Wheel Angle Signal? Panel is saying service traction control and stabilitrak

If you did not turn your steering wheel 360° while it was disconnected all you should have to do is reset that code, The code is on obviously because of the steering wheel angle sensor but it also causes the other ones to come out as well

So i’ll put on here what the problem was for future people having same issues. When I disconnected the knuckle from steering rd to drop the cradle farther, the steering turned without my knowledge. After the job was done I kept getting the C0710-00 code, service traction control and stabilitrak. I ended up removing steering wheel off and turning the steering sensor one whole turn to the right and it fixed my problem. So for reference make sure you tie down or tape down your steering wheel before disconnecting.

Sorry to be the one to tell you that I highly doubt that the transmission control solenoid’s are serviceable with the transmission inside the vehicle but you may want to check elsewhere because I could be wrong and I hope that I am

I have a question in regards to a trans shift solenoid occasionally getting stuck open. It is intermittent and only after it rains. This more than likely is an electrical problem. Can you help me out here? I really don't want to get ripped off by the dealer or dishonest shop.

Clay Rogers great thanks. 2011 with 60k I just replaced CV axle's and when I go from drive to reverse I'm getting a pretty loud click-click from each wheel. I'm hoping it's just the cheap CV axle's I put in(not rebuilt new). Everything is tight I triple checked. I'll definitely be doing the cooler though thx I will be subscribing.

Probably nothing wrong with your cheap axles you put in. I installed them daily I’ll bet dollars to donuts you do not have them clipped in . If you still need the question answered I would find out what is the particular name of the transmission you have in your 2009 and look that up and then I would look up the same kind of transmission that they have in the 2010 in generally by the pictures or the The description you should be able to tell the difference I apologize for not knowing

2008-2009 has wave plate issues- putting tranny cooler will help- but tell you the truth it will eventually break - some dumbass GM engineer put non heat treated wave plates that would wear out faster if transmission is hot . 2010 -2012 - transmission control module issues - it's a labor intensive job and need dealership to properly diagnose coz symptoms is very similar to torque converter problems . If you flush and refill the fluid every 30k-50k - should help resolve this issue. Just letting you know if you flush and refill by yourself make sure its level at the tranny oil dip stick. If you overfill ATF - has tendency to overheat - one of those weird phenomenon even GM techs cant explain why it's doing that.

Most vehicles come with the transmission cooler located on the inside of the radiator. The problem with that situation is sometimes the radiator fluid will leak into the transmission cooler and contaminate your transmission fluid intern ruining your transmission. So this is very recommended for the both of you to do it. My Recommendation would be to get rid of both of them. All automobiles have their problems it’s just them particular automobiles have three very big problems engine ,transmission and catalytic converter. Issues. I personally love the vehicles them myself it’s just unfortunate that they don’t last as long as they should or as other makes and models will. But installing some inexpensive transmission coolers will hopefully make it to where you don’t have a transmission problem sooner than later

Hi Josh. NO you do NOT ! if they link anything out of them ( other than the little bit of old transmission fluid was in them ) you have a leak from your radiator .

Hi clay if i can ask a question i have gmc Acadia 2013 his happened to me twice basically i am driving then there would be a sudden gear shift and check engine light would come on with StabiliTrak off ,Traction control warning light rear view camera off. I would slow down to complete stop car but then when i press gass paddle i would get nothing car would just barely role but rpm would go up. Then really slowly i would get the some power . On both times i would have to shut down the car then go to setting in dashboard and reset everything back on from TC, camera ect after shutting car off and resetting only check engine light would be there but after few hour of driving engine light would disappear this happens twice in past 3 months. Codes i am getting is P182E P0700 transmission control system MIL. I alos noticed that when it goes up in rpm to 2 rpm it will give me slight kick like its confused not all the time but i do notice it thanks man

Well it’s extremely difficult to say over a text message exactly what’s going on with that thing. But from the information that you’re giving me I wonder if you have a moon roof. And if so I suspect it’s leaking into the car and causing a electrical shortage believe it or not most mechanics will know right where to look. Of course this is just me speculating. Now if you do not have a moon roof then I would start thinking about what was the last repair that was done to the vehicle because more than likely something is loose. It does not sound like you actually have a bad component problem just some kind of electrical connection problem So about the only advice I can give you is what was the last thing that was done to the vehicle and I would start looking in that area. Sorry I wish I could be of more help

I do have moon roof and last repair was front breaks and rotors i did it my self but what i also did before that was i removed throttle body for a cleaning. it was all gunked up. i wonder if this can be a issue i hear those things need to be reprogrammed if you move the actual moving part inside which i did move. But then i was told it will relearn or reprogram by its self. Thanks you so much man for your help. @@sharpcarco Hi clay i do have a moon roof took it to mr transmission they when check engine light was on they can see P182E P0700 CODE they also got some other codes believing its electrical but local mechanic that does electrical cant see any issues except P182E believing its TCM some forums say its arcing in the under-hood fuse other forums say Code P182E relates to the transmission's Internal Mode Switch (IMS), a.k.a. transmission range selector.thanks for your help

E Piz Sorry I’m not gonna be able to be of much help with that particular situation I don’t know enough information and have never experienced them problems. But like you said before I highly recommend just trading it in and getting something else I wouldn’t waste much time telling them about the issues it’s not going to make any difference and they’re going to believe that they can get over on you with trade-in value. Even though trade-in value is not very high on them because they have a lot of problems. Plus The place you trade it in to will just take it to auction and sell it. I certainly wish I could be of more help with them technical problems that you’re having . But I’m pretty ignorant to them situations because I don’t keep these vehicles very long if I get them traded into me. And a lot of the dealers that I work with know that their junk so I don’t often work on them

Yeah. These transmissions are not the greatest. I guess I should cut this car some slack because this was one of the pioneering cars for the first automatic 6 speed hydra matic transmission, so there were bound to be some faults. But ultimately you're probably better off having a different transmission. I got a brand new transmission from a local shop years ago. Not sure if they built me one or fit me with something but it's worked great.

@@widtrak77 For anyone wondering, the tow package doesn't have an external trans cooler but a "heavy duty radiator" which can supposedly shed more heat quickly. Its about a 1/4" thicker.

I’ve heard about problems all the way up till 2012 I think mine that I was working on was a 2010 the actual model like say it was an SE or SEL doesn’t matter SLT it doesn’t make a difference they all have transmission problems and you’re just saving yourself a little bit of headache
