@ninjatechauto655

I am a former Nissan Tech. You are wrong about them not having a vent. It is to the right of the center housing above the brake line. Everyone I have ever worked on had one. The problem is they would get clogged because it is a poor design. Anytime I had one on the lift I would spin the vent cap to loosen the dirt/crud in it so it could breath. You are right in the fact that this issue causes the axle seals to leak. Another issue is the front diff axle seals like to leak a bit to often and when people get it fixed, they don't replace the cir clip that holds the axle in. Then the axle likes to pop out and destroy the diff. Also as one mentioned already. Mode door actuator. The A/C fan right behind the front bumper goes bad. The fuel pump relay has a recall that no one ever gets replaced till they have an issue.

Do you know which Nissan's the fuel pump relay had a recall for? I did a vin lookup on a website to see if my truck had any recalls and it said I did not. I just wanted to make sure. I have an '06 Titan SE.

I bought my 2007 Nissan Titan with 6k miles on it in 2008 when stationed out in Camp Pendleton. It’s 2023 and I still have my 2007 Nissan Titan. Dropped about 15k in aftermarket and a custom paint job in 2009. I love it to death, only now is it on bonus time. It was totaled out in 2019 and I bought it back and used the insurance money to fix it. I also have a 2004 4 door SE Nissan and Titan 2016 Nissan Armada Platinum. I will always be firm supporter in Nissan and especially the Titan. I’ve had brand New GMC denalis 2012-2014..Jeeps and Fords. And plenty others. I do not own any of those vehicles now. Except a 2105 Jeep Rubicon. Maintenance is ridiculous. Titans and Nissan are the best and I can vouch for them 100%

My 2007 Titan has 190k. I bought it used in '08. So far I have replaced the radiator due to cracking at about 150K. I replaced all upper and lower control arms, ball joints and bearing units. Recently the valve covers, AC compressor. All brakes and rotors. Power window actuators, drive shaft support bracket and it runs like a beast still. The good news is these trucks are fairly easy to work on yourself if you have the time and patience. Love my big red.

The transmission cooler problem was fixed after 2009. Aside from that, and a few weird HVAC issues, they’re solid trucks that can be as reliable as a Toyota Tundra. Never knew anyone with a negative comment about them. Even knew someone that drove one around with a leaking thermostat housing for a long time and it never broke down on em, even when it was overheating.

Hahah right, I'm in the market for a nice 3 front seat titan SV first gen for me and my 2 daughters (old school road trips ahead). It's literally the ONLY ok pick up out there not yet completely overpriced like tacomas, 4runners, frontiers, xterras and even the newer dodges, ford and chevys now (you have to be a broke ass or mechanic to even tackle a 10+ yrs old american truck breaking appart). It's completely dumb to pay soooo much mark up on hype just because you're afraid to do a few fixes (which you will end up doing anyways if you actually use your truck no matter the brand). The thing with trucks now is that whole "survivalist" hype and the fact most of people know absoluely nothing about cars or trucks. So they all collectively make stories about eternal trucks that don't need nothing but a super high mark up price. Meanwhile, you can get a titan now for half the price of a frontier. If these "problems" where so common of unfixable like she said there is absolutely no way in hell Titan's first gen would rank in the highest millage trucks. Period. They are very good trucks, slightly bigger than a frontier, superb engine and extremely sturdy full box frame. Just right there we lost half of the totoya crowd like we're speaking chinese. Means it's one of the last real old school workhose platform and it feels sturdy, doesnt flex crazy. And honestly, even has for looks, this soon 10 yrs old truck im looking at looks better than anything out there trying too hard. It's just a beast. haha have a good one

I feel like the the blend door actuators are a top five problem. In the forums, seems like most people have it after a while. Granted, they don't render the vehicle inoperable, but replacing them is very difficult. So we're normally just stuck with annoying clicking for 3-28 minutes when we move the blend door from feet to face... Also, the brake booster... Other than all these problems, love my Armada.

Wish I could say the same thing. I had an intermittent issue where every couple of weeks or so it would crank but not start. Most of the time it would eventually start but twice it did not causing me 2 tow bills. Nothing ever fixed it...new fuel pump, new ipdm, ecu, relays....3k an still nobody could fix it. It even sat one time at a dealership for 2 weeks with them trying to recreate the problem. It happened once, but as soon as they turned the key the next time, it started. Ended up getting rid of it. Otherwise, loved the truck.

@@jeffs8330 For the crank/no start problem, I saw a Nissan bulletin where the camshaft position sensors ( 3 on the front of engine ) or the crankshaft position sensor ( 1 on the bellhousing of the tranny ) was the common problem. Hope it helps someone. BTW, they all look the same but are not. The 3 camshaft position sensors DO NOT have a white circle on the top of the sensor but the single crankshaft one does. Camshaft OEM part # 237314M50B Quantity 3 ( No white circle on the sensor ) Also has SGIB000 stamped on top Crankshaft OEM part # 23731AL61A Quantity 1 ( Has the white circle on the sensor ) Also has SGVB004 stamped on top

You can avoid blowing out your axle seals by adding a vent breather tube. its like a $40 mod. You also left out one of the biggest issues these trucks have and that being the OEM exhaust manifolds. They are guaranteed from the factory to fail. Most people upgrade to performance headers to avoid it permanently. because it is not an issue that goes away once. its a guarantee to happen every time with OEM style manifolds

4:57 you can actually do a rear axle vent mod where you replace that dreaded axle vent with a Barb fitting and run some fuel line to just under the bed of the truck. Be sure you add a fuel filter at the end of the fuel line. It is important to have the outlet of the fuel line higher up from the axle to keep water out of the axle much easier. My Titan blew an axle seal recently and I had it replaced along with the axle vent (updated to the aforementioned breather tube) and It has worked wonders for me so far.

I have always liked nissan trucks, The first main issue when the truck was released in 2004 was the front brake rotors warped due to excessive heat by design. I owned one. It took nissan 6 mos to finally make a formal recall and replace them. Good thing since not doing so on a braking issue would be a very bad safety lawsuit.

I have a 2008 Titan, bought it new, and haven't had any problems yet. The only thing I had to replace is the radiator cap and the brakes/rotors. Other than that, I'm running everything that they put on it. Now, this spring, I'll be doing extensive maintenance on it since I haven't done anything to it....ever. Like shocks & struts, change both diff fluids, spark plugs etc. I'll be happy if I get 5 more years out of it. It's been an excellent truck for me. If I had a complaint, it'd be the paint peeling/wearing of of the roof in the spot where there's no insulation (middle front), top of hood and top of both front fenders. I'm going to look into a full body LineX/Rhino spray job so I dont have to worry about the paint/clearcoat.

I disagree with your axle prognosis to keep replacing seals. Just vent the axle by drilling a hole in the top of either side and either use a brass barb and a piece of hose. Run the hose up the filler neck and zip tie it. My 08 has a vent, but it plugs up. In my case pressure pushed the GL out the pinion seal. I caught it, topped off the pumpkin and cleaned the vent. The "clock spring" aka spiral coupling is an easy cheap fix if you buy the aftermarket replacement. However later models with a steering angle sensor you have to buy the Nissan part which is $420. The radiator problem seems to be on early models up to 05, so if it has high mileage, it obviously hasn't failed. I have 230k miles on an 08 Titan, and 175K on my Armada. Power trains have been bombproof. All I do is maintenance per the owners manual. Climate control actuators, cheap interior plastics, evap sensors, cracked exhaust manifolds and thin paint are my only complaints. Both get lousy fuel mileage, but that is the price for the power. I tow with both vehicles and neither of them break a sweat.

I have an 08 Titan SE,the problem I had was the little section of flex hose that connects the transmission cooling line to the radiator sprung a bad leak and all the fluid leaked out,I immediately pulled over and had it towed, I had the line fixed it ran fine for a week then the transmission failed, had to be rebuilt $4,000.00, transmission shop told me when all the fluid leaks out that's what happens, I suggest that if you have 100k plus miles on yours "check that hose",this is a design flaw since that little section of hose can't be seen since it is hidden by that shield, still a great truck !!!! Oh I almost forgot "how about the starter under the the intake manifold"??????

The plastic tube connector on the firewall for the heater core. I snipped it and bypassed it my 2011 titan was trooper. Ran it hard trying to get a new engine on warranty, but it was bulletproof. The only correction I have for the items you noted, was the rear axle vent. It does actually have one! The design is flawed though, it will rust closed very easily and create the exact symptoms you mentioned. These, and all Nissan trucks are also hard on lower ball joints - I see this often enough to mention. Due to the suspension design most DIY'ers will miss these when checking over their suspension

I have a 2012 titan with 140000 miles on it and haven’t had any of these issues. But the issues I have had is the notorious blend door actuator, low air pressure light want turn off on dash cluster and the drivers side rear half door has problems opening. I have to pull the handle like 10-15 times before it will open most times. Other than that it has been a solid truck. I also bought it new.

After two seal replacements I did it and never had a problem took that baby to 170k and found out still running strong. I have about 400K on my titan and have experienced most of these. As another mentioned, the exhaust manifolds will fail that should have been mentioned Headers are the way to go. I have lost 2 radiators over the years, neither leaked into the trans. One fuel pump. Yup, the rear axle is a nightmare. I actually installed a used Nv3500 - AAM 14 bolt axle. I changed the interior to the 2015 model after the paint wore off on everything and the env controls unit went bad. I think soda was spilled on it. Went thorough a clockspring as well. The steering wheel was nasty and I installed the 2nd gen titan steering wheel. Still has the original trans and engine. Once they go. Im going with the second gen engine and 9 speed.

"I actually installed a used Nv3500 - AAM 14 bolt axle" I have an 07 titan and have had many issues with the real axle and still do today. Many times I wondered how feasible it would be to swap in the Titan XD or nv3500 axle onto my titan. Can you tell me how difficult your swap was? Was there a lot of modification needed to make the nv3500 axle fit onto your titan? I am really curious!

@@przemeksledziewski1973 I had to splice the ABS sensors. You need the NV or XD u-bolts and hangers. Had to muscle the springs a little and that was it. Everything bolted up. Even the driveshaft which I thought would require modification. Truck drives heavy now. Not like a Titan. Prob more like an XD.

@@omorin34 That is so cool! I've always liked the idea of making the Titan into a stout little HD truck. Especially when the rear axle is continuously giving me trouble. If I could please bother you a little more with some more questions, as I am new to this. "I had to splice the ABS sensors" 1. Meaning you used the existing titan connectors but fused them to the NV ABS wires, correct? No dash lights? "Had to muscle the springs a little" 2. Does this mean you used the Titan's leaf springs or the NV's leaf springs? "Everything bolted up" 3. So no need to modify the NV's spring perches, correct? "Even the driveshaft which I thought would require modification" 4. So no need to worry about the pinion angle, correct? 5. So NV hubs fit right in to the Titan's front knuckles? Then just do the same wire splicing? If so which spacers specifically did you use? 6. What year is your Titan? 4wd or 2wd? I hate to ask so many questions but I would be grateful if you told me more.

I bought my 2006 Titan new (currently April 2021) and there are more 2 items to add to the list. 1. The exhaust manifolds crack on the 5.6 engines. The Armada and the Infiniti also have the same problem. The fix is to install performance headers . 2. The rotors warped very easily on the 1st gens. IMO they are way too small for the truck. The fix, install performance brakes and rotors.

The other major failure which occurs in these trucks is the air mixing valve motors under the dashboard. Many will call it the "endless clicking" under/behind the dashboard and down by the driver's right foot. You can find 'countless' how to videos on line which many a person has tried to show the "easy" way to fix the valves - there is no easy way. The dash has to come out. This "failure" of the truck should absolutely be noted and recognized.

Something that was not mentioned is when the lean condition makes your intake manifolds crack and when this goes on for long enough your catalytic converters fail and the motor sucks up the catalytic converter pieces and grenades your motor. I don't see this happen too much, but it definitely happens. Cheers!

I bought my 2008 Nissan Titan February of 2009 with 24k miles on it. I now have 136k miles on it and it's been the best vehicle I've ever owned. A couple of the items you mentioned have happened but I think you missed a big one. Here is my list from personal experience. 1. Biggest repair so far - Blend actuator doors which cost $1700 as the entire dash had to be taken out and several days at the dealer because no mechanic wanted to touch it. It also had to take a trip back when one of those actuators failed after a couple of months. REPLACE THEM ALL IF YOU REPLACE EVEN ONE! They can't deny warranty when all were replaced. 2. The trim inside is GARBAGE so you were spot on there. My entire top part has been ripped out after it cracked so I can literally touch the metal roof. 3. Clockspring wiring but you forgot to mention the wiring to the gear change (if you have it on the steering wheel) as the wiring after putting in park to drive to reverse to drive, etc, etc, eventually wears out the wiring and you can't manually shift which is nice if towing. So if you replace the clock spring which isn't too hard, make sure you check that wiring! 4. I had an issue with the exhaust manifold gasket and to avoid the engine light coming on would use higher grade fuel to avoid it, eventually needed a new starter so replaced gasket while doing that and all good now but that egg smell was brutal! 5. Transmission cooler hose has been replaced twice so keep an eye on that. For reference I do put Mobil 1 full synthetic oil in my truck and change every 5k miles or once a year. Now that I live in the country it's every 5k miles. I love this truck and hoping for another 4 years or so as I really want to get it to 200k miles. Then I want a 2020-2021 Tundra with NO TURBOS! With trim issues and other plastic part failures like actuator doors I'm ready for a different kind of truck and I love the Tundras before they went away from the V8. Have a great day.
