Fourth Gen had worse brakes and suspension. I upgraded both. The timing job is a hassle too. I've done it twice. That said... I've got a quarter million miles on mine... And it's still runs great! 👍❤

My 4Runner has a small leak on the head gasket that is leaking coolant out of the engine on cylinder 6. I've heard it's pretty common too

Wouldn't even really consider some of these problems brakes and shocks are routine maintaince after many thousand miles and corrosion is a rust belt problem.

Living in a cold climate I learned long ago to never use the rear wiper in freezing weather. In fact I go all winter usually november to april never even turning that wiper on. Had a jeep cherokee that the wiper froze in the half way position and remained that way for the rest of the cars life! stuck permanently

How about the notorious timing valve cover oil leak issue on the 4.0L engine? Need to take the whole engine out to fix it. 😮

What’s up with the whining noise with acceleration that I’m told is common with these engines? 140k miles and runs like new but that whining noise worries me.

My 2012 trail edition will sometimes abruptly feel like I have hit deep sand while in a long sweeping corner, the felt friction slows the vehicle a bit and there is a sound of something rubbing. The vehicle will want to steer out of the turn a bit. This can last from a fraction of a second to almost a full second. It can feel mild to pretty scary. I have been to several mechanics and no one can figure it out. Only happens on greater than 90 degree sweeping curves at around 30 to 45 mph. never any other time. I would be so grateful for any help.

Look I have seen this with mr2 doors...toyota gets ground for the motor in the hatch.. find ground wire and run it to the body...this is due to the fluctuating ground do to movement and positioning of the contact made to the body via hinges. Happens with toyota power windows. If you toggle while pushing lock unlock the window will pulse its way back up or down. Good luck 👍

I feel like this video is a big nothing-burger, making people feel doubtful about their 4Runner. Just another way to "sell parts" I guess. Hopefully you'll just go with the OE parts if you have an issue. Toyota continues to make this exact model through 2024. These are tanks, built to last forever. If you live in the "rust belt", you're going to have rust issues if you do not take precaution. Warped brake issues normally don't happen till 20-40k. Depends on where you live, hilly environments and city driving cause you to use your brake far more often which wears down your pads and rotors. They are not ridiculously expensive. Oh, and if you have a corroded starter wire, that didn't happen in the first 5 years... or have 60k miles. That's long-term driving and age. Can it happen, sure it "can". But this is just fearmongering. Wipers... don't be a fool and use your wipers (front or back) in the winter, until you've cleared all snow/ice from the glass and wiper arm. This should be common sense, but people who don't take care of their stuff shouldn't expect it to last. Toyota's suspension have been know to last longer than most, 100k + miles. If your rear shocks start to squeak, they are not really that expensive to replace. Chances are, it's time to change them out and do your routine maintenance. Airbag deployment... Um, they did a recall... go get yours fixed if you didn't have it done. That's a free-bee. Just another way to "sell parts."

I've had over 20 Toyotas. There's a reason I keep going to that brand. They're hands down the best. No doubt. I have two with over 200k miles and three near that mileage.
