I think C# should be definitely on the list. Its used in all places from web development to windows app to mobile apps to games. I don't think python should have been the number one, it should probably be javascript cause there are more web developers then probably any other developers in the world. And the one language ruling the web is javascript. My top 5 would be 1. Javascript 2. Python 3. C# 4. Java 5. PHP Yea I didn't put swift here cause I really don't think a language that is running on 40% device in the world and whose apps can be developed by other languages (C# and Javascript) should really make it into top 5. Maybe yes in the US, but probably not the whole world.

Thanks Ruth for this video. R and Python are both great languages R is a data specific language. Python is a general purpose language. That means that something like web development in python is designed for web developers and requires understanding a full web development technology stack on top of the data analytics skills. Ie Python + Flask or Django + HTML + Javascript + some asynchronous programming framework like react. The community is bigger but spread across many more different use cases which may have no relevance to you. Web development in R is designed for data analyst which means you only need R and Markdown to build a data-driven dashboard in about 1/10th the code using a library like Flexdashboards. This is the general principle for pretty much everything in the language. I could go on with many other examples and have also made videos on the subject but in general... If you are a web / app developer who wants to integrate some machine learning functionality into an app then you should go with Python. If you are an analyst who spends all day exploring, analysing and reporting than go with R. It will take you half the time. As a data analyst tool it has integration with BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, etc whereas Python does not. You can still use Python within R if you find a must have Python library. You can also convert your R code to REST APIs to make your work available for easy integration by developers. It's worth noting that I've worked with both languages but teach data analytics courses predominantly in R. I'm glad that you put together this video as Python is great but not for everyone. I know many people who have had a very similar experience to your own.

Hi! This is gonna be a long comment! First of all I'm a Chartered Accountant and unexpected/"unwanted" entrance into the world of programming. Ever since my childhood I was fascinated with computers and software. I always loved coding. However, due to certain reasons I had to shift to commerce for my class XII and then pursued Chartered Accountancy. I still have my deep love for coding. It like your ex whom you still love but you in this case I want a patch up and start again. I was seriously confused as to want language should I learn. I read python is the most sought after language, so I started with it. Then when I started designing basic apps for android, I realized its a damn tiring task to convert python to .apk (using linux VM, buildozer etc.) . The started with kotlin as many said it was easy. However ended up knowing that knowing java would be better if you want to learn kotlin. Since I was an Auditor at reputed firms. I have the idea of database (little bit). Now in order to store data from app or websites one must know SQL. I was just confused at the worst possible manner. Then I watched this video. There's no word to describe how perfect is this video. You gave me an perfect birds eye view of what's what. From my point of view, its not the question about agreeing with what you said, rather I'll follow what you have said. Let's see how this turns up in the future! Thanks buddy~

For me, PHP and Javascript are because of necessity : I have a project to develop using them. But my mind now is towards Dart and probably Rust. I also feel I need to relearn Java and C++. I lost interest in C# although it's a powerful language. So, if I have time to learn this year, this is my list : 1. Dart (including Flutter for mobile development) 2. Java : resume to learn from where I suspended long time ago, including Beans, but priority on J2SE. 3. Angular framework : this means I need to learn typescript as well. Holding both React and Angular in my hand will make feel safe for creating front-end GUI. 4. Rust : its unique approach in memory management is interesting. 5. C++ : I have learnt this without actual coding. Last time I struggled when trying to understand templates and some other concepts such as copy constructors/control, etc. I feel I want to beat those concepts by relearning. :) Honorable mention : Python, Go, Julia and possibly, although unlikely, relearn Assembly.

About data structures and algorithms, small systems that do not require complex computation can be developed using any data structure but for big systems like AI and image processing, an efficient data structure must be considered in order to boost up the performance and usability with limited amount of resources.
