One of the places I drag visitors to is the Corvallis Farmers’ Market, Wednesday and Saturdays from mid-April to Thanksgiving on the riverfront. In the winter, the Corvallis Indoor Winter Market is at the Fairgrounds Saturdays from January to April. Between them, you can get fresh, locally grown food 46 weeks a year.

I love the Saturday Market! The Winter one is nice as well, but I love the outdoor one - especially on sunny days.

I chose to move to Corvallis 4 years ago. I was turning 60 and living alone, this town was just the community I wanted to spend the next 20+ years 😉 I moved from Bend after living 40 years there. The Corvallis winters are soooo easy compared to a central Oregon winter 🥶 I love it here because there's so much to do, gardening, hiking, pickleball ❤ the BEACH ⛱️ thank YOU, great video! Maybe I'll see you in WinCo 😉

Great video and quite useful information. Is it really that hard to find a place to rent? I’ll be moving to Corvallis next summer and will be looking for a one bedroom apartment that accepts pets (🐱🐱). Do you know the average price of renting? I am mostly interested in a place that is walking distance from the OSU Campus although I assume it will be more expensive. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the tips. Questions: What is the average temp for each of these months: June, July, Aug and Sep? Are there any housing options for ages 55+, e.g., apartments or mobile home communities? Thank you.
@RealtorOtis
@RealtorOtis Жыл бұрын
The average high temp during those months is typically in the high 70s to the high 80s with the occasional heat wave in the summer where you might hit 100 for a few days. I would say September is probably my favorite month here. Yes, there are multiple 55+ communities in town with a wide variety of housing offered. Houses, townhouses, mobile home communities and more.

@@RealtorOtis thank you for your response. It sounds lovely. I live just south of Austin, TX and this last weekend it was reported that we’ve now had 80 days of 3 digit temps this year. On average, that works out to 22% of a year, temps are over 100. Most were 107-110. I’ve lived in Texas 69 years and after this summer, I can say I’m finally over it! It gets worse every year. No more. I might be contacting you in the coming months for housing options, possibly purchase in a mobile home community, if you’d be interested. I would winter here from Nov thru Apr to get my cold weather fix and live May thru Oct where temps stay below 75, preferably, and housing is affordable. This week, the temps for next 7 days are 95-97! It’s like waking up to Ground Hog’s Day everyday, it won’t stop. Help, someone help me! LOL!! Just kidding, I can help myself with assistance from a realtor. Thanks and best regards. 😡🫣🫠🤣

@@RealtorOtis in researching retirement communities I came across your video. I'd like to see a video of retirement living options of condos and townhomes with small footprint properties. I've lived in under 1K sq ft with tiny back yard and found that space perfect. Medical and shopping would be a priority. I'm over 70 , healthy as a horse but at this age I need to plan.

Not sure if food choices would please you but there are lots of Mexican restaurants. We have several ethnic restaurants as well and grocery as well. If you like to salsa dance, there's a group that meets weekly. What are you looking for?

What wildlife do you see? What about cats, dogs and horses?
@RealtorOtis
@RealtorOtis Жыл бұрын
There's a lot of wildlife as we're very close to green space wherever you are in the city. I also run and hike in the Mac Forest, so I see a lot of wildlife there. Outside of birds, I would say deer are the most common - but it's not unusual to see turkeys, squirrels and even the occasional coyote. Corvallis is a very pet friendly city and if you're looking for horses or space for horses, there are many just outside of the growth boundary and close to the city.

Summers in Corvallis are no longer ideal due to extreme heat and dry weather. Fire and smoke are now a real and ongoing threat in our area. People should be advised of this before moving here. Also. We have very high property taxes.

No traffic? Easy to get from one side of town to the other? Ha! Sure, it's not big city traffic, but I tend to think of Corvallis as very poorly planned for traffic flow. I've lived here for decades.
@RealtorOtis
@RealtorOtis 5 ай бұрын
Yes, Hwy. 20 can see some traffic, or if you're trying to get across the Van Buren bridge at 5pm you will have some traffic, but overall - Corvallis has a great setup to handle the community and people driving around town. Getting from NE to SW can be a little tricky I guess, but you can take one of the major streets around the outside. With most streets being 25 mph, you do have to plan for the stop lights and signs, but given the setup you can make it across town most times fairly quickly.

How about safety and homeless?
@RealtorOtis
@RealtorOtis Жыл бұрын
Corvallis as a very safe place to live. I feel safe running walking at night, being out about downtown after dinner, etc. The majority of crimes are typically associated with theft of items left on porches, bikes that aren't locked up, etc. There are some areas that do deal with homelessness, but these areas are mostly known and don't impact the city as a whole. If you're interested in specific neighborhoods, specific safety questions or more on these questions give me a call or send an email and I can help share the specifics based on what you're looking for.

@@RealtorOtis I'd like to tune up your homeless response. Your response is probably correct from a realtor point of view. From a homeless point of view it is lacking in understanding and compassion. Fortunately, it looks like we in Southtown are going to have an opportunity to elect a City Councilor who will move the City toward meeting the needs of the homeless in ways that are also responsive to the needs of homeowners. Vote Jim Moorefield.

No speed limit higher than 25-30 mph!??? Wow! I could almost run that fast 😂. Taxes are high, the free bus transportation needs to be funded by the people. So...Is it really free? No. You didn't mention anything about the unemployment rate or the homeless rate. Two things that no one wants to ever mention. Crime percentage? Rate of pay for skilled trade workers? I'm a certified welder/fabricator with 20+ years experience.
@rehervey1

The proper term is fairless bus system. Also to be accurate, care was taken in setting up the fairless system to make sure that state and federal funds would be available to mostly pay for the bus system. True, that's still taxes that we pay, but it feels more like we are getting some of our money back into our community.

@@kayalcorn9569 Good Morning. It's been quite a while since the original conception and funding formula for Corvallis's fareless system was established. So you may be right that it is now funded only by fees on our water bill. Originally, we met various grant funding criteria from both ODOT and the fedetal transportation department, such that local funding was way less than half of the cost of operation.
