I lived in Salinas all my life and this was a very interesting video. I enjoyed it and for the most part you are right about everything. A lot of people are moving out/moving in and a lot of businesses come and go. Parking is also frustrating everywhere

I rented a house off Cherokee dr. on the north side. My neighbors house appraised for $69,000 25 years ago. Wow, the percentage increase for the last 25 is astronomical compared to the previous 25 years. Thank you Silicon Valley, sarcastically for the new buyers, gratefully for the people who already owned a home there.

Great video, very interesting. I grew there for 18 years. Agree crime can be bad in Salinas, particularly in east side and maybe even some parts of north side. South side is generally lower crime.

Hmm interesting video but Salinas is actually one of the most unaffordable cities in CA. It’s almost as expensive as SJ but with a weak market and extremely low wages. The homes should be priced similar to other agricultural hubs like Fresno or Bakersfield.

Hey Redgar. I agree with you, Salinas regularly appears in lists of the ‘Most Expensive Cities to Live in the US’ because of the disparity between income and home prices. It even beats New York City in that regard. Housing costs are so high the only short-term practical solution is more housing needs to be built, fast. The Salinas real estate market also suffers due to its proximity to the Monterey Bay and places like Carmel-by-the-Sea, which are so desirable and expensive it drastically raises the cost of homes in all other cities nearby. Vote for local politicians who support housing developers and investors.

Stay away from the East Side of Salinas. Drugs, gangs, drive by shooting are common there
