I have owned a Cessna Skymaster for over 20 years. It's gross weight is 4630 lbs, or 2104 kg. With long range tanks it has a range of over 1100 miles. I have a rating in a conventional twin aircraft, and the Skymaster handles much better than a conventional twin. Additionally, the lack of asymmetric thrust is a bonus when dealing with an engine out. Finally, in contrast to a comment post by someone else, the rear engine actually outperforms the front engine in single rate of climb. The negative fuselage effect is seen with the front engine, not the rear. I would rank it #1 on your list because the Dornier is $7.5 million dollars, and I have never seen one at any airport, ever.

What I like about the push/pull configuration is that if you lose an engine, you don't have asymmetric thrust. Just less power.

Agree. But I found it interesting that vortex thrust off the direction of the propeller can effect ability to rudder right or left. See MMATT's GT500 video starting around 5:30 where he can easily turn left but finds it hard to turn right. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYawoKOja5t9oNk

Nice video compilation. The Voltaero is a modified Cessna Skymaster, easily seen at 1:28. In that view it has 4 propellers, with probably two engines and two motors. I believe they intend to manufacture new airframes. Definitely an intriguing concept. I really like Dornier's SeaStar and am puzzled why it's not popular. It first flew almost 4 decades ago and only two examples have flown.
@AviationFederation

Thank you for your feedback! You're correct that the Voltaero is a modified version of the Cessna Skymaster, and it features four propellers driven by a combination of engines and electric motors. The concept is indeed intriguing, and Voltaero plans to manufacture new airframes for their electric aircraft. As for the Dornier SeaStar, it's interesting how some aircraft, despite their unique features and capabilities, don't gain widespread popularity. Various factors such as market demand, production costs, and competition can influence the adoption and success of an aircraft. Nonetheless, the Dornier SeaStar's long history and limited production make it a unique and rare aircraft in the industry.

I showed my wife the movie so she understood why there were so many patched bullet holes in our plane.

You missed on 4 points. 1st: the VoltAero Cassio is simply a re-engined Cessna 337. While I will admit the engine choice is unique, its basic air frame is still built by Cessna. 2nd: I've heard Rutan pronounce his name as Ru'tan, not ruten. Just an accent difference, I guess. The French auto manufacturer Renault has the same problem in America when it used one pronunciation during the 1960's (into the mid to late 1970's and earlier) in the US and has since reverted back to the actual (and proper) pronunciation later. 3rd: The Dornier (which has a French pronunciation as well as an Anglicized one) Seastar is actually a re-engineered design from the mid 1930's, the Dornier Do 18. Dornier also designed and built 2 other, radically different pusher/pullers of WWII era: the massive 4 engine/2 nacelle Do 26 and the equally impressive Do 335 "Arrow" fighter. Not surprising from the same man/company which pioneered the Do X 12-engine (in 6 pusher/puller above wing nacelles) flying boat whose first flight was in 1929! Top spot should have gone to the Cessna 337 since it was not only a full production aircraft with several variants, but also saw military service during the Vietnam War as the O-2. All the others were of limited or "kit" production, although the DoubleEnder could change that.

Sure, gross weight/max. speed of the Voltaero is no different than the Skymaster. She's quoting their future possible design for a commuter aircraft, not what is currently flying and shown in the video. Many of the Defiant details are just wrong...sounds like she was confusing Rutan's Grizzly with his Defiant.

Tell me what does a propeller do dictionary not very clear, support it seems to be pushing up or against . So that suggest to me it is for pushing something if so it is at the back going the opposite way not attached to the front pulling something. would that be impeller ? So that would be an impeller at one end and a propeller at the other end.
@AviationFederation
@AviationFederation 6 ай бұрын
The term "impeller" is often associated with devices that move fluids, typically liquids, and is not typically used in the context of aircraft propulsion. In push-pull configurations, both ends may have propellers, each generating thrust to propel the aircraft forward.

People, you NEED TO LEARN this. A MOTOR has electrical wires connecting the batteries to the power-plant IE :MOTOR. An ENGINE has fuel (gasoline or jet A fuel) that goes from a fuel tank to the ENGINE where there is intake, compression, power and exhaust strokes which produces power for flight. Narrators, pilots, mechanics and even the general public needs to LEARN the difference between a MOTOR and an ENGINE. People will think you are educated. But just knowing the difference does not make you educated, it will just show that YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MOTOR AND AN ENGINE SO, stop calling a engine a motor. Learn it, live it, know it! ! ! ! ! !

wing mounted electric motors should be much more reliable than a conventional twin, thus reducing the appeal of push pull designs.
@AviationFederation
@AviationFederation Жыл бұрын
You raise an interesting point about the potential reliability advantages of wing-mounted electric motors in comparison to conventional twin-engine designs. Electric propulsion systems are gaining attention for their efficiency and lower maintenance requirements. However, push-pull designs often have their own merits, such as improved handling in engine-out situations. How do you see the future of electric propulsion influencing aircraft designs and safety considerations?

The relationship between the number of engines and the likelihood of engine failure is an interesting point to consider. Multiple engines can provide redundancy and increase safety in certain situations, but they also come with their own set of maintenance and operational considerations. What are your thoughts on the trade-offs between single-engine and multi-engine aircraft in terms of safety and performance?
