The community between the is250 and 350 and isf is real. I have a 2011 is250 too and I had a guy roll up in a 350 and said I fucked up. Well, I like how small the is250 is, and we can put the 350 into our 250 too. Same fit but less of a boat. So I guess it ain’t so bad after all. The isf is obviously the first choice but to me this is like an M2 comparison to and m5, most people hate the m2, but I like how compact and small makes their handling insane. Now, my 250 is no rocket, but I have to ask @14:10 did you really have your foot to the floor? Also, make sure you have the ECT switch set to POWER, check the compression and try a de-coke additive in the fuel tank. Think about changing the spark plugs too. Good news is although the 4GR engine falls a bit short of expectations, it's basically bombproof. But also remember yours has done nearly 180k miles. Hope this helps and good luck with the channel! 08 IS250 /210K miles Great vid, man. I must disagree with a couple comments you made... Most if not all Luxury brands keep the source code locked for ECUs, thus preventing us lunatics from tuning and changing up the fuel-oxygen ratios where most of the power comes from. Nissans may be tunable but definitely not most of the Infinity, granted, you can still tune luxury lines with tuning kits but you'll have a nice Christmas tree in your cluster unless you manually turn them off at which point you'll be loosing precious features of your car. The biggest draw-back for me is the fucking carbon build up... Like these dumbass Toyota engineers knew full fucking well the consequences of having only direct fuel injectors instead of both direct and port side injectors like the IS350 - makes me wonder if they did it on purpose to lock you into their brand... Just cleaned out the carbon buildup myself with some zip ties and a Walmart drill - saved myself 2K on walnut blasting... here goes another 100K for daily driving 🙌 Needless to say, I'm done with foreign cars, I'm going all American on my next one :) PS: my other regret is getting the factory Nav package, if I had done the basic I could of installed that aftermarket 11" nav 😭

So I have a question. I have a Lexus IS 250 I got from my mother when I first got that car. I got it when it was 165k miles or so. I have about 185k miles now. I recently drove cross country from CA to AK and I know this car will last me like well into the 400k-800k range. But when it comes down to it, is it worth it to replace the engine to keep the car going if it came down to it? I do not know much of cars but I can only think that if the engine needs replacing so does the: Suspension, frame, etc. like I don't know if its just good with an engine. Since you can't get the 250 anymore I was planning to do some upgrades like full LED lights instead of the Xenon lights, change the exhaust pipe, etc. I don't have turbo but I don't think I want to do anything to the engine like add turbo but I would want to upgrade interior and exterior things to keep it fresh but I guess my thought process is that if I do that and if/when the engine gets high miles that either its replacing the engine or buying a new car, is it worth to just put a new engine,

Ahhh... just so funny to watch it from Europe... not criticism, just funny how perspectives are different. So re small seats in the back - in Europe, particularly in UK Lexus IS is considered "large car", yes that si right "LARGE", I think that is stupid, it is entry-level luxury sedan it is sort of average in side I guess, certainly not compacact for sure, but not large. The room in the back is considered adequate for the class and in general, the headroom is little bit worse, because of sloping "coupe like" roof, but in general nobody would complain about lack of space in Europe. I myself 186cm (so ~6'10") and I had 4 people comfortably in the car even on longer trips (London to Scotland, as well Europtrips of 2000miles+) and nobody complained, car was loaded with stuff for 4 as well and it was alright. I would not recommend for people taller than myself to be in the back, but usual thing is that my mate sits in the front and our girlfriends sits in the back and it just works out. 3IS is not much larger in the back, they shaped the seat in such a way that you sit kind of more crunched-up and lower, so there is maybe 2 eatra inches of headroom. But in general IS is considered proper 4-seater. What you said about "3-seater" that is RC, I had RC200t (RC300 in US) and RC-F and it was really uncomfortable in the back for peopel and I never drove anyone in the back for more than 100miles maybe. I had GS300 as well and that has noticiably more space and again is considered large in Europe and cat sit 4 people very comfortably, but IS is more than adequate as well, not limousine, but not tiny. Same for cup-sizes, in Europe we cringe about American sizes, that cup holder is MASSIVE, you would not be able to find a cup in Europe that would not fit. And small note here - when you open central console, there suppose to be little plastic insert which makes second cup-holders and it is even bigger and prin loaded. So perhaps it is missing on your car, but what you described as "workaround" is exactly how car was designed to be used - smaller cup in the cup holder that behing gear leavers and big cup or even bottle when you open the central console and it would be self adjusting so you don't need to use console lid to hold it. Overall interior in 2IS is better quality than 3IS, but I agree it is kind of dated, especially infortainment, that is kind of Lexus trait, 3IS was considered dated by contemporary standard as well. That said I had US import 2010 IS250AWD and build quality is way inferiour than European models (I had European 2012 IS250 F-sport and later 2008 UK speck IS250 SE-L). In Europe we only have IS-F and IS250 (no IS300/350) so IS250 is not considered bad choice, but IS220d is shitted on, but that is because of the reason - they are very unreliable (yeah, unreliable Lexus, who would have tought), only came with manual with problematic DMF, engien pops turbos, head gaskets, injectors, DPF and EGR constantly blocked... typical diesel issues mostly except of head gasket. But I know that in US IS250 has same reputation for some reason, despite in my oppinion being decent car, as well DI and carbon issues somehow are not common in Europe, not sure why. But yeah - if I had the option to buy IS350, I would have always bought IS350, just better car, IS250 little bit underpowered, not bad car by any means but just slighly low on power in my oppinion. And that kind of cover your speed point - yeah it is just barelly acceptable. If you feel bad driving IS250, then you have not driven anything marked 300h, I had RC300h as well as 200t and that is embarasing, I really decided to get rid of it when 1.4L Renault Clio pulled-up to my RC300h F-Sport which looks like fast car even standing still and that little shit-box overtook me from the lights and cut-me off to join slip road from wrong lane. IS250 at least is responsive... RC200t was fast but very laggy, in fact my old IS250 would be in front of RC200t up-to 40-50MPH, only then RC200t would finally obvertake (again that is US RC300), but RC300h as lexus call it "equivalent to 3L engine" is ebarasingly slow. Little point about the gears, I think you need to understand how gears on Lexus IS250 works (the A960E gearbox)... you don't shift the gears with paddles, you select the limit with paddles. So basically you can't upshift with paddles, you can only downshift. Example - you drivin in D, you need to overtake, you put car in S, that automatically selects 4th for you, then you can click gear down and that LIMITS the range to 1-3, meaning car willbe able to downshift if you slow down from 3rd, but it won't upsift from 3rd to 4th, that is just a range LIMIT! it works fine for engine breaking (althought it does not allow to lok the wheels), and alright for downshiting, but it is useless for upshifting. So another example, now in are in S, you in Sport mode, you are in 3rd gear and you decide to upshift, you press + and select 4th and car does NOTHING. WHY? Because you just unlimited the range, you have not instructed car to upshift, you just said "here you go, now you have 4th gear available as an OPTION". Car may be in 3rd gear and perfectly happy with that for a while and especially in Sport mode where it tend to keep revs high-up it may not see any reason to upshift at all. So it is not lag in gearbox (not that it is very fast anyway), but that is because it isn't "sequential box", it is automatic box with range limited. I know A760E can be "manualised" (that is gearbox from IS350), so that it does actually shift when you indicate you want to do it and treats it as actual instruction, not option. Not sure if that also can be done with A960E, but being almost identical gearboxes I can't see reason why not. So research "A760E manual mod/shift kit", I can't find it now, but I remember there was supercharged IS350 in US, that had somethign done with transmisison (maybe ECU mod) so that when you press upshift, it actually upshifts right away. You kind of right on tuning, Toyota ECUs were locked for every long time, I think IS250 may be cracked by now, but yeah - you can't tune it. That said it is V6 NA, there is nothing to tune out of it... 4hp maybe (I really doubt you can make 40hp out of IS250, 40HP is already IS/GS300 power and just headers and intake not going to give you anywhere as much). But I get what you are saying - there is just no aftermarket support for power mods in general, Supercharger is crazy money and again issue with tuning it, DI and turbo does not really like each other etc. Most cars you mentioned are generally turbo charged and when car is turbocharged the tunning potential is way higher. So yes IS250 is just not the car for engine mods, that is correct.

@@yauchris_ well that all depends on how much your driving, how your driving and how far you drive daily/weekly. If I’m driving everyday locally it’ll last me maybe almost a week but if I’m traveling to neighboring city’s and being out and about it’s not gonna make it the full week. My opinion is the 250 is the most pointless v6 EVER…! They maybe should have gone with a GDI 4Bangger that at least gave you close to good MPG ratings & possibly made the 250 a coupe version… They are really good for Ricing up but yah the lack of tuning is sad…
