I have owned 2 4dr XJ's and waited a long time for a clean 2dr and finally picked up a clean 2wd 4.0 5 speed. Just got done converting it to 4wd. For me I love the wide 2dr so I can actually get into the vehicle without being a contortionist. I don't have a real need for the rear seat so that is not a issue for me. I just wanted a basic fuel efficient vehicle with roll up windows and AC. Cruise control and intermittent wipers would be nice, but I can add them at a later date. This one did come with the full instrumentation so that was a bonus. The 2drs were sold as a economical entry vehicle so yes they are usually pretty stripped of all the nice stuff. Perfect for me because that means less stuff to break.

I'm happy mine's a bit of a unicorn then. My 96 2 door has the 4.0, no door sag, and 4wd. I swapped in the higher trim gauge cluster and actually prefer manual windows/locks.

I never thought the 2 door looked right to begin with. I liked how the 4 doors set it apart from other 2 door SUVs around the same era. The 2 door ( to me ) looks like an unfinished concept drawing. Which I found out later it kind of was. If people like them that's totally cool, but I can never get on board that the 2 door version is cooler. It's just cool in its own way for me. But I do not think I will ever own one. More for you guys though, right?? Keep up the videos please, this is my favorite XJ channel.

I was lucky that mine ('00 sport) was custom-ordered by the previous owner's father. Powered pretty much everything. 4.0, auto, 4wd. Full gauge cluster, cruise control, higher-end radio. I love my 2d and hope to keep a hold of her after she's done doing work as my dd. Really want to give it the love it deserves for all it's done for me. I think 2d styling looks far better than 4d. But I know now why the previous owner had to sell it when she was trying to get kids into 2 car seats in the back of one of these.... and THAT is why i'm getting snipped now that i've only got 1 gremlin running around my ankles 🤣

Cool factor definitely outways. I own a 2dr that came w/ 4.0HO 4x4 stock. Over the course of time I've added higher trim level options and just as nice as a fancy 4dr. Def turns heads especially when I encounter 4dr XJs. Also own a Comanche 2.5 5spd 4x4 that I am restoring atm.

I sure am glad my 2 door XJ is in mint condition, inside and out. It's also fully loaded with all the options. I bought it as a commuter vehicle and was wondering why I kept getting looks of amazement? Thank GOD I have a good spare vehicle to get me to work through the snow. I'm a Lexus guy, but this vehicle is truly nice. A true belssing to have during the winter months. Amen. :)

Love my 2dr 4.0 4wd awd. Bought it for $600. Was T-boned pretty hard. Had to replace the door and quarter. Had to buy a donor for parts. Ending up getting lucky finding a buddy with a nos door and quarter. Now that shes fixed and as i restore her, i literally baby her

Here's the (relatively fresh) owner of an European 1999, 2 door, checking your reasons: - Coolness of the 2 door: CHECK! - Poorly optioned: partial check; for my European has the 2.5 L Diesel indeed, yet it came with power locks, full gauge cluster, air conditioning, 4 wheel drive (command track); yet no cruise control. - Rare & expensive 2 door specific parts: check. - Rear seat access is a pain: check (yet I don't mind) - Door hinges wear: check - Laughable inside door grips: not on mine; mine has standard 4 door door grips. Must be an European built, I guess... - Structurally weaker: check (yet I don't mind; for I will not use it for extreme off roading) - Coolness of the 2 door: CHECK! (they're so rare & desired nowadays, I would sell mine easily for the double purchasing price I paid 6 months ago).

The inside door grips shown on mine are only on doors with Crank windows. Given you mentioned yours has power locks, I'd reckon it also has power windows, and if so that's why you have the better handle. I put it as an honorable mention because it's not a 2 door specific problem - the 4 doors with Crank windows also have that unusable grip - but when you combine that with a longer, heavier door, it doesn't work well. I have seen a 2 door with power windows before, and it did indeed have the better style grip, so it's definitely not a 2 door only thing

I've owned 7 or 8 2 doors. My first and only 4cyl one was an '86 4 speed manual. All 4wd. I currently have a '97 5 speed with a 6" lift and a '00 auto with a 3". Both have '00 4.0 sport engines with 110-120 thousand miles on them. Debating on selling them though... here in SW Ohio...

There was one 5 speed 2 door 4.0 (in Croatia believe it or not) when I was buying XJ but it was not so good so I ended with 5 speed turbo diesel. But 2 door Xs are really cool!

I've got a nice two door five speed 4x4 4.0 I would sell if the price is right. Cruise, keyless entry,tach, runs and drives great Interior good. Driver's door drags a little. Not much rust.

Well I screwed up and sold my special ordered from the factory '92 Red/w tan interior 2-dr XJ . I got the 4.0, HD cooling, AT, power window/seat pkg, OHV pkg with factory lift, outside spare tire carrier, tow hooks, fog lamps, skid plate pkg, tinted mirrored side glass w/vents, sun roof, larger tire pkg...etc. If only I had kept it and what it would have been worth now...omg It was a looker.

If these things were built the right way, they would look good and I had a buddy of mine who had one and the different between his and most others is that his had power windows and most others had manual windows and whenever he put it up for sale, it was about $5,000 and I remembered low-balling him saying that I wanted to buy his Jeep for $600 because at that time, I only had $600 and honestly, I missed that Jeep because even though it had fading red paint, the set up he went for looked perfect

I just got a1995 2 door, arctic ice white with black windows 4 x 4 4.0L inline 6 I'm building it now. I MIGHT wind up just putting a snow chain as the door grabber for the moment, but the door does sort of hang a bit lower and the handle is going to need some work, ( it's touchy) it's not the first time one of my jeeps has had that door hinge situation. At the moment I'm looking at the potential LOL, 😎

Nobody buys a 2 door xj thinking they are going to haul a bunch of people around. 2 doors are not as rare as you would think. Finding one in decent shape in the year you want is more the issue. It took me a while to find a 2 door with an ax 15 and no rust but they are out there. Some 2 door parts are tricky to find and the door hinges usually do bend and crack but it's all worth it in my opinion bc the 2 door just has a great look to it when done right.

Well, I recently got a European 2Door 1999 XJ Sport with 200k km and I kinda disagree with a few points here as some stuff really depends on the circumstances. For instance mine does have power locks & windows therefore no annoying door handle (which was also a thing on 4door ones), got 4x4, no door sagging (let's be honest, happens to any old vehicle) and regarding frame flex, applicable in cases of extreme off-roading, then again frame stiffeners are also a thing if you plan to do that kind of stuff. Access to the back seats is as inconvenient as any other 2 door car and trust me, I am a taaaaall guy. Cruise control? You can live without it and sometimes less is better, less potential problems.

I don't think I would trade my 4 door for a 2 door. I like to throw my bed in the back of mine and go on extended camping trips. IDK how I would get into the back in a 2 door. I also always place my books for school on the back seat and trying to get them every day would suck with a 2 door. The 2 doors are cool because they are rare but I almost think the 4 door looks better. Maybe it's just cope because I don't have one though.

Getting in is not a huge problem; getting out is :D I fixed my 2 door with mounting a steel wire with a latch from the rear door locking mechanism underneath the door cover; so now I can get out of my trunk easily by swiftly pulling on that latch.

You gotta replace the hinges to do it properly, and that is beyond my ability. Someday, I'll take it to a body shop - because the door has to be aligned very specifically to avoid water leaks

I have the chance to buy a rust free one owner no accident 99 sport 2 door with 4wd 90k miles but he wants 15k 😂. It’s the color I want and it’s stock. Looks really really nice but it’s just hard to justify spending that much for one.. I know the prices are expensive especially for the nice ones but I’d feel better if it was 10-12k. I also feel like how often do you get a chance to buy nearly exactly what you want? Like they are only getting more and more rare. I also wish it had like 50-60k miles but what can you do. It’s pretty amazing that it has a 5 speed, up country suspension. Is a sport, no rust, stock and in the color I want. What do you think? It hard because I bought a 1 owner no accident stock rust free 2006 wrangler x with 7k miles for 20k a few years back. So when you compare it to that. I’d be buying a 6 year older vehicle with 80k more miles for 5 grand less.. I know the xjs are rare but it’s just hard to justify it even though I want an xj in my collection lol

@areject17 I don't think I could ever spend $15,000 on an XJ, that's about what they sold for brand new in the early 90s. Sounds like the seller knows exactly what he has, because a red 4.0L 5 speed 4x4 2 door is literally everyone's dream XJ for some reason. But as I said in the video - no XJ is any less XJ than any other XJ. You could find an identically spec'd 4 door for literally $10,000 cheaper, with a handful more miles. But miles don't matter on these

Replacing the pan on the passenger side but when I bought it the interior was bitchen and the outside is good. As a friend would say, it's sanitary. It is a two door with the 4.0L motor and auto. 4wd and works well. Everyone wants to buy it but not for sale unless I find a p/u with a longer bed than 5'. It's a 95 but it's in good shape for the year. No 4 door as don't need back seat drivers. Fjb.

Never liked the 4 doors and never have bought a XJ if the 2 doors didn't t exist(lifted never stock)The poor design of the door hinge is the biggest issue for me.Trim from the last gen, suck anyway in both version. Anyway, i use the xj cause it's one of the coolest US 4x4 you can really daily in Europe. You can really do better when you are US resident
