It's not really their fault if they didn't even looked at the screen because they didn't expect a shiny or something.But it is your fault if you only have a single Pokemon that can survive an attack from the Pokemon you are hunting. Another reason why she deserved it is that she saw the risk of failing that shiny but still didn't use the best ball she had. It was obvious that she won't catch it with a quickball because after so many turns, it is as effective as a normal ball. AND she knew that she is gonna die if this ball is not gonna catch it.

I'm ~300 shinnies into my living dex and haven't failed a single one yet. I have chosen however to to faint random shinnies and redo hunts. I hunt with synchonize, harvest leppa berry strats, heal pulse, mostly because I only catch in premier balls. But yeah, rando shinnies in playthroughs and stuff I historically would just faint, in the days before bottle caps, mints, and all that.

I'd suggest you'd use Pokémon GTS on 3DS or Pokémon Home app in phone, in your app phone GTS you can find any Pokémon, they'd put the Pokémon you want for exchange for something.... most the time legendary XD

When it was gen 4 my brother was really looking forward to finding a shiny riolu in his diamond version while I had pearl when he found out about the shiny's colors then one day he goes to the battle tower and ends up battling a npc who had a shiny riolu. No catch chance at all. During gen two some time after seeing ash catch shiny noctowl, weeks or months, I was staying up when I was supposed to be sleeping and I encountered a shiny noctowl that I was looking for but at random, just after the sparkles my batteries died.

Rules to hunting. 1. Pay attention when going into encounters, no matter how deep you are 2. Keep your sound on or up so you can hear the sparkles 3. Always double check before you run or kill in case it looks too similar to normal colors 4. GO IN PREPARED! 5. Random encounters use a quick ball or something beneficial to catching pokemon faster.

I use a Venasaur with False Swipe, Sunny Day, Sleep Powder and Sweet Scent as my Shiny Hunt Pokemon. He does pretty well. No sandstorm kills etc.

For shiny hunting, always have a pokemon with heal pulse. Always. I learned that when I failed a wormhole audino. I had a lot and it was wormhole so I wasn't that upset but I realized that you should be prepared for anything

Not Sw/Sh but I soft resetted over a shiny Dialga in Diamond not long ago, that I had been hunting on and off for about 7 years (the actual length of time spent hunting was maybe around 2 months). Luckily got it again after a couple of days. That Pokemon is now more precious to me than my life.

I don't have it recorded, but I have a Shiny fail of my own for you. I joined a Max Raid against a Charmander that wound up being Shiny, and then one of my teammates got the brilliant idea to use Earthquake when the rest of us were all weak to Ground and they killed the 3 of us and then got one-shot by the Charmander, stopping us from even being able to throw a ball at it. I was more than a little pissed about that one.

I almost failed a shiny male meowstick once when I was trying to get a shiny toxel on route 7, I didn't have a lot of balls from what I can remember, I had 15 ultra balls, 2 great balls, 5 poke balls and 7 premier balls alongside 1 of each special ball from ball guy. Once I knew I was probably going to fail it since I used all my ultra balls, great balls and poke balls I only had my premier balls and special balls left, so I weakened it with quick attack to about yellow health then just chucked all the special balls at it until I only had a beast ball and a heavy ball left this is where I gave in the fact that this is going to be a shiny fail so I chucked a heavy ball at it and to my surprise it caught now I'm not sure how much meowstick weighs but I'm pretty sure its light. To this day I think that's the luckiest thing to ever happen to me during Pokémon.

I once failed to catch a Shiny GMAX Charizard I found in a non-promoted raid. It was pretty heartbreaking tbh. I also almost failed a shiny Heatmor I found in a raid because my game was stuck, but thankfully it started working again after exiting out for a few seconds and I ended up catching it
