I like when shoes lose their hype. I can get them for way cheaper, and then I don't wear what everyone on campus is wearing. Last year, every freaking person had Ultra Boosts. This year, NO ONE has them, and I can rock mine without seeing 1000 other people at my college with them. Same thing with the Flyknit Racers. Nowadays, I can find them at outlets for less than $100 and hardly anyone wears them.

This video is bothersome. You make the typical disclaimer in the beginning that every “sneakerhead” shoetuber does, extolling how you should buy sneakers you like and don’t get taken by the resale market. Then you basically criticize all of the 5 on your list because Nike / Adidas mass produced them, hurting resale and scarcity and hurting hype. Was hypocritical. Take NMD- when first released in 2016, they were extremely rare- all colorways- the OG, the big apple, the camo, the tan. They were super impossible for regular people to get. So Adidas, a PUBLIC COMPANY which exists to SELL SHOES to the masses, did the responsible thing for shareholders and gave the public what they wanted, a ton of NMDs in a million colorways. Your NMD OG restock hype example is a joke. The OG colorway was near impossible to get in 2016, only a few thousand, hence they went for 1k. They rereleased them this year so demand could be met, and people who really wanted this cool looking colorway could get them, which they did, and they still sold out. So just because resale for the restock dropped to mid 200 from 1k, doesn’t mean the shoe “lost hype”- means Adidas did what they were supposed to. You and the other shoetubers who have a very rudimentary understanding of corporate finance DO NOT GET IT. Nike and Adidas are through making GR type sneakers being limited (AJ 1, NMDs, etc)- they want to take back the extra profit resellers were scraping when demand wasn’t met on shoes like AJ 1 OG colorways, NMD and UB. They’ve evolved to a new model where collabs get the limited treatment and are a halo for the hype for the brand (Off White, Acronym, Kaws etc.) they likely lose money on these because they spend promo dollars and don’t make enough to satisfy demand, but overall it feeds the allure of the general brand so you go and buy the Royal AJ 1, which im sure was a blowout success. Yes, I hear you, too many colorways, too much supply for many of the GR’s, but that is ok, just because a stupid AJ 13 Black cat reverse black premium leather alternate colorway blah blah piece of garbage eventually goes on sale and then hits outlets, doesn’t mean it isn’t a success for Nike in the long run, you sell a bunch full retail, then it evolves to discounting. Better than not making enough and seeing the shoe resale for double, means you blew it. Nike / Adidas have a host of problems to deal with- general retail decline, their distributors getting crushed due to Amazon, lack of innovation, etc. But this video about lost hype is basically saying “you’re making too much of the popular sneakers that you used to foolishly not make enough of back in 2011 and that’s killing hype, make less colorways!” Which is basically the thing you argue against, which is to like shoes due to rarity. Also your example of AJ 3-5 colorways back in the day being less than now is true, but the era was completely different- there was no internet, social media, the retail channels were far fewer, the ability to manufacture in scale was not the same and the lifestyle market in late 80s / early 90s wasn’t nearly as mainstream as it is now. Sorry for rant, I just didn’t love the mixed message here. These shoes lost “hype” because the manufacturers made more to satisfy demand and increase their top line sales, which they have to do as public companies, they are not in the business of making every in demand show rare to help rarity / resale. in no way did you say the shoes were crap stylistically other than the Lebrons, which I agree.

Boost is way overpriced for what you get.. Sneaker companies have got greedy as hell over the years. Shoes are no longer with plush leather or suede, they are made with cloth/nylon and then they want to charge us $200 for a pair of running sneakers or trainers.

I feel like JB released there most sought after shoes in response to the yeezys gaining popularity out of desperation to try and shift the hype back to them which backfired. When you release bred and royal 1s as well as cement 4s less tham 5 years apart the shoe loses its luster.
