Adidas Boost hype Dead? 5 Mistakes Adidas made with Boost
In today’s video I wanted to discuss 5 mistakes Adidas made with Boost technology. Please note, I am still a HUGE fan of the product obviously. And right now I the best time to cop as you can find great deals on Ultra Boost ST, Uncaged, NMDs, and Pure Boost.
Your comments via twitter: / 958099503776546817
Also, just because I list it out, doesn’t mean it’s the correct answer, ultimately the more pairs of boost out there, the better that is for Adidas to maximize profits. Also, simple answer if you think something “Died” because the hype isn’t there, they you may be a hypebeast lol. I still rock my Pure Boost old and new, as well as my NMDs
That being said here are a couple factors on why the hype on boost is dying and possible mistakes Adidas made with boost.
Runner ups:
BOOST SLIDES!!!
3 times a charm … 4 times was too many? Should they do away with the Ultra Boost model after the 4? Should they create a new model entirely? Or should they just mix up the upper more so not as similar as previous?
5. Inconsistent sizing in boost models made it hard to consume, especially tough if the same make different model was inconsistent, example: PK fit big, regular mesh fit snug,
4- overexpansion - As with Jordans in 2017, Too many versions, too soon, too much. similar boost mold as well. NMD R1, R2, CS, CS2, XR1, R1 PK, Regular R1, NMD Racer, R1 STLT, C2
At $140-$220 each it is expensive. Colored boost $20 more didn’t help, and in limited options. - too many similar colorways on the same models. Black White collabs have been done over and over.
IMO they should have created a knock down version of the NMD to release to the masses and keep most of the PKs limited to keep the hypebeasts happy. The “but you aint got these” mentality went away.
Even the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 released in tons of colorways too soon many will say.
3- “Real runners don’t run in boost” - But the ultra boost was created for running and evolved into the lifestyle goodness that it is today. My opinion? Carbon fiber Boost Sandwich… Zm Vaporfly 4% competition to elevate the reactive nature and add spring.
2-Slap Boost on it to sell. Classics like Stan Smiths and Shell Toes shouldn’t be reimagined, or should then? I personally like the concept, but I do recognize the execution is tough, and off putting to some, but more importantly if you cant feel the benefit of boost when adding it to a product line, it might not be worth adding.
1-MiAdidas for Ultra Boost NMD But do it right, allow us to be creative, lots of colors, lots of materials. It could spawn its own subculture of ultra boost imo, similar to NikeID.
What did I miss? Leave a comment in the comment section on your reasons the hype died on boost. So with the hype dying and 4d on the rise, will that be the new boost? What about the Speed Factory AM4 stuff, will it be too late for them to have an impact? What would draw back the hypebeasts again?
Ultimately 5 years of Boost so far has been amazing, it has caused other companies to step its game up and innovate their own “boost killers” if you want to see the top 5 Boost knockoffs, leave a comment and a LIKE and I will generate that list next week!

Yeezys are the Jordan brand of adidas and we are witnessing history right now with Kanye (who is not an athlete) leading the pack of designers creating shoes the innovating the sneaker game , like how many Nike shoes currently look like a variation of an adidas boost , and for people to complain about Yeezys are being played out, ask yourself this how many times has Nike/ Jordan brand released pairs of the air Jordan 1 ones and fooled us by changing materials and colorways which in my opinion look no different to Nike sbs , it’s like back then the only way to promote a shoe was by being an athlete of some sort but as soon as an artist steps in a designs a shoe better then all these shoes that were designed for an athlete all of sudden now everyone’s a critic like give credit where credit is due adidas created a new lane for lifestyle shoes where shoes a more aesthetically pleasing rather then being some kind of bulky performance shoe where you had to play a sport to have a reason to have the it shoe now a days the only people ruining the shoe game and filling us with lies like boost is dead are resellers because now all of a sudden they can’t maximize profits because of mass productions of shoe runs for a companiEs Nike has been taking advantage of us as buyers and monopolizing on wants an needs for decades and now that adidas has stepped up to the plate and dethroned the once undethronable Nike/Jordan brand now people complain about too many being made when that’s just a strategic play for adidas taken out of the Nike hand book, you have to realize that a brand is only built over time like before Nike air maxes and air Jordan’s and many other Nike shoes relied on there Nike air bubble technology and also look at the difference in overhead money Nike has over adidas before boost came out you can only imagined how much difference it was to me Nike and adidas is just like the tale of David and Goliath where adidas is david and Goliath is Nike and majority of people don’t really likes to see the under dog winning so if you are someone who thinks boost is dead you must be a millennial because the boost game is just getting started and causing you cry babies to cry over spilled milk , and just keep this in mind Jordan was never a designer he was a jock that was given shoes tailored made to his liking so what really would an athlete know about creating shoes where adidas golden boy aka Kanye the artist would have a more better perception of fashion since in his profession as a musical icon image and fashion is his sport , I would type some more but my hands a getting tired of typing but if anyone wants to have a thorough debate I will be more the happy to video chat this discussions so ✌️ for now and hit me up if you want to get educated about the matter

i love boost, and i think a lot of people do too. The hype may die down but I don’t care because then there’s more of an availability of shoes with boost. however I would love for adidas to do something different with boost that they haven’t done before or create more materials that act similar to boost but look different or lighter etc etc

Running-shoe -seller here. Regarding your point with boost not being used by runners: it really depends on the model. The UB is the only "mainstream" boost shoe I would even consider using as a running shoe. That being said, I also think the UB is way too soft for an acutal runner regardless of not providing any heel support. The only scenario in which an UB would be recommenable for a runner is if said runner only runs on streets, just had some really bad knee injuries and needs ALOT of cushioning. That is the only scenario. And even then there are shoes on the market with a better price-point. Other than that, I would look at models such as the "Supernova", "Energy Boost" or "Response Boost", depending on what you look for. These shoes differ in the percentage of "Boost use" (Supernova 85%, Response 70%, Energy 45%) the rest being basic foam cushioning making the shoe harder the less boost it has.

I prefer the Energyboost instead of the Ultraboost for running and even walking. The reason is the Energyboost's boost midsole ends before the toe leaving the adiprene on it's own, that small section acts like extra forward propulsion (the supernova and others have the same feature). This is very noticeable for me either walking or running as long as you end every step on your toe. I also feel like the mix between Boost and Adiprene in the Energyboost is better for impact and response, the pureboost/ultraboost feels a little bit unstable, like stepping on soap or something. I still think the ultraboost looks better and would wear casually over the energyboost.

On the nmd: Your right, too many colors, but it was smart to put a CS, CS2, R2 and Racer. Air max also came up with a new model every year, so that's not the problem. The problem is that they put to many variations of it on the market.

As someone who works with the product, sizing can be a little tricky even for us, but in terms of the UltraBoost being not taken as a serious running shoe, it all depends on individual preference, because we do have the EnergyBoost which are more lightweight and targeted at marathon/long distance runners. It’s mostly because the hype doesn’t really jump on those models because they are not as well rounded as the UltraBoost in the sense of everyday wear.

Runner here, i am on my 3rd pair of Boost running shoes, and believe you me, there are many runner specific Boost shoes, the most extreme one is called the Adios Boost, which holds the real and sanctioned World Record in marathon running. I have just worn out my 3rd pair of Adios Boost and i am trying out the Nike Zoom Fly which is not anywhere close to the comfort level and stability of the Adios. And the Pure Boost DPR is one hell of a underrated running shoe. Comfort, cushion and response all in one urban package. That would be my next Boost running shoes. I own NMD R1, XR1 and i am actually glad i am able to buy them off the shelf now that the hype is slowing down. Cheers

I used to work at a run specialty store and have been running in addias for a few years. The boost shoes designed for running are ultra, energy, supernova, pure, Boston, tempo, and adios. The average runner would probably run in the supernova due to price and comfort. I personally run in the Boston but it tends to not have enough cushion and fits too narrow for the average runner.

the runners go to other models for running like energy boosts, basically because If you are heavy, the UB are way to inestable, but if you are skinny and you run fast, you have way too many cushion and you feel slower

Couldn't agree more with number 5. I'm a 9 regularly, but in UBs, I'm a 10. In PK NMDs, I'm an 8. In EQT 93/17s, I'm a 9.5, in regular knit NMDs, I'm a 10. Very inconsistent.

The hype and resell ability doesn't benifit Adidas much. They are in the market to make money off of mass market shoes, if only a limited group of individuals are willing to pay the premium price for the shoes so that they can flip for even higher it doesn't help Adidas make any more money. It makes sense to ride on the popularity of the boost and release something for everyone at everyone price point to make money from every segment of the market.

I run in the adidas boston 6 and it is one of the best running shoes I have ever worn. Switched from the nike pegasus line. Honestly, i dont like how cushioned the UB is for running. The boston 6 does not have as much boost as the UBs (maybe like 60% less). Interesting note, I believe the fastest *public* marathon was run in the Adizero Adios 3, which has boost.

As a more serious runner, I can say that Adidas has made some pretty good performance running shoes with boost. For many, the ultra boost is just too soft and unstructured, so models like the supernova or even the energy boost are a bit better performance-wise. When utilized correctly, it can be a great cushioning system for the elite athletes. Their adizero line has been great over the last few years with the Boston (great daily trainer), adios (my favorite shoe, and the official marathon world record was set in the adios 2) and the now discontinued Takumi-Sen which uses boost in just the forefoot for the efficient runners. For the lifestyle and sneakerhead world, it just appears that Adidas is just banking on the ultra boost to be their flagship running model (which, to be fair, it initially was designed and marketed to be) whereas they do have a pretty good set of other performance models for the more serious models. Also, their "Sub2" shoe will soon compete with Nike's 4%

I want to see more solar / neon and solid color ways like they did with the 1.0. I’m getting bored with these earthy, muted, and overly mixed colors.

The Adidas supernova boost running shoe fits so weird length wise. I'm a size 11 in them and a size 10 in ultraboost

I run in ub-s for sure. Bought my first ub for running a year ago and there is no way back to nike for me. Or lets see react but dont think that will work for me. Seems too squishy... Great videos keep it up!

I own the Stan Smith Boost along with other Boost shoes, and I must say that the Stan S Boost are great. I can def feel the Boost, the leather quality is great, and the shoe is much lighter in general than regular Stan S. I get all the hate for the Superstar Boost, but I think the Stan Smith Boost are far superior and don't deserve the same treatment.

It's still the most comfy. I love my vapormax plus ultra tn's the most. The air unit is not as comfortable than boost but after a couple a weeks of working the air unit in it and it sounding like a rusty couch on tile floors, they do get better after wear. I all in all like the silhouette and technology of vapormax way more. Always have, but also will always own and rock boost. Nothing beats that feeling. Boost "hype" is dead but the technology is amazing. If u have not tried boost than wut are u waiting for?

Most comfortable shoe and there's no other shoe like it .... So yes it gives other companies to try and step up their game and come up with new technologies to be more compatative...Because at the end it's all about comfort and style !!

Size inconsistency is an issue, way to many models in each style and except the Pharell which they are about to flog to death soon. Im seeing people into fashion also moving onto luxury brand and into Jordan again.

The 4D seems awesome, but the prices are way too high. If they are to make 4D the new boost, they need to mark down the prices and build the hype. But with all the money adidas is making out of Boost, that’d would eventually lead to killing the golden goose ...

I don't think Boost was ever big enough to die. Where I live (Germany) Adidas obviously is a big brand, but when it comes to shoes they can't hang with Nike. Even in 2015/16 Boost was never a real hype. The biggest hype I've seen here was maybe 5 or 6 years ago with the Nike Free and right now Air Max 97s and Air Max Plus. Almost everybody is rocking Air Max right now.

i mean the general conception is its not a performance tech anymore, its more lifestyle. those are the main 2 for runners long distance tho which is why its odd the ultra boost was called the best running shoe ever.

As a former competitive runner UB would definitely not be a go to for me, I would opt for the Nike Pegasus instead. And yes I think the fact that UB became adopted as the go to shoe for those that are strictly casual sneaker people versus those that use sneakers for...athletic endeavors...turns it off as a reputation for a performance shoe.
