What games do you recommend to beginner soloists? Thanks for watching!

I was wondering where you would put Loom by Shieldice games on your scale of Miru to Harpers Quest?
@lone_adventurer Жыл бұрын
@@tinycastledesigns7110 Good question - I was thinking about Loom earlier today - I just noticed that it's up on drivethrurpg for print on demand! That game provides plenty of support - perfect for beginners.

I would recommend Runes . It's that introduced me the the life of solo rpg games.
@lone_adventurer Жыл бұрын
@@tannercheek9550 oh yeah I've definitely considered Runes - it looks different to other games out there, I like the look of the point-crawling aspect and there seems to be a good community around it.

The Solo Adventure's Toolbox isn't a game, but it's an outstanding resource for solo play.
@crushingit5128 Жыл бұрын
You have no idea how much the Solo RPG community needed this video. Lots of time on reddit people want to know how they can get into a Solo RPG without any prior experience. Lots of time there is naive response of just picking up a D&D 5th Ed core book. That too intimidating for those that never played a Table Top RPG or GM or played in a group. Ok what next? Where do I go? Why do I go? How do I surprise myself? How is this supposed to be fun if I already know whats coming up? etc etc.
@lone_adventurer Жыл бұрын
Exactly - this is what I was trying to express at the start of the video. I've come across so many places where people recommend a traditional RPG as a good place to start. And you can totally do that. Just say your character is in a tavern. Roll on a random table to generate a quest. Ask a few questions of an oracle and off you go. But that route isn't for everyone and it hasn't been my journey so far. Hope some people find this video useful!

Thank you so much for this! I love the idea of solo RPGs, but the most popular ones come with 400+ page books and supplements that are very intimidating even if the systems are good.

Thank you for included GLIDE in your list. The latest expansion, Downtime, adds so many more options for players when visiting settlements. I won't list them all here and encourage players to check it out if they enjoy the core game. There is a revision of GLIDE coming next year, which will make things much easier to get into and include some missing content.

You're very welcome - it's one of my favourites! Indeed I've got Downtime sittings in my basket with my next print order 🙂 Reckon I'll do another playthrough once I've got it! And great to hear there's a revised edition coming - I'll be on board if you go the crowdfunding route!!

Color me embarrassed; I'd been pronouncing "Zilight" as though it rhymed with "Twilight" (Zombie Twilight == Zilight?), but maybe "Zi" is short for "Zine" as a reference to its size. I thought about this waaaaay too much....
@lone_adventurer Жыл бұрын
Haha, I did give that some brief consideration too, but ended on a pronunciation of 'zee-light' in the end mainly because I've come across that pronunciation in other places - World War Z (Zee), the boardgame Hit Z Road (as in 'hit the road') and they call zombies 'zees' in the TV show Z Nation.

@lone_adventurer Жыл бұрын
Haven't heard of it! I'll check it out 👍
@Mantorp86 Жыл бұрын
@@lone_adventurer Well in my perspective it’s a great game because it’s theme agnostic and it’s rules light but it’s kinda RP heavy because there are no HP, no stats. In the expansion of the game the author explains how you can add mechanics to add more chrunch. For me it’s a perfect system for trying written adventures because you can play with one character and there are no monster stats or player stats and you can “complete” a dungeon without a party. Definitely it’s not a game that holds your hand or tells you in what universe you need ti play or what your character you need to play. It’s mostly freeform in character creation.
@lone_adventurer Жыл бұрын
@@Mantorp86 oh sounds interesting. Definitely sounds like a different kind of beast but I like the idea of the story taking the front-seat and not letting mechanics get in the way. Thanks for explaining!

Is Miru an rpg with replaybility? I’m new to this scene of rpgs and would like to have something with enough replayability and is still cheap.
@lone_adventurer10 ай бұрын
Hey there! For me, Miru has plenty of replayability, but you can't play it 'for ever'. From this list, I'd say Notorious has more replayability, but it's a different game. If Miru appeals, go for it - you'll get your money's worth!
