The trickle down technology is executed so fantastically in KEFs lineups. The R meta was nearing the quality of their reference series. Now you're getting a Q series approaching the R metas. The main differences in every lineup is build quality and manufacturing. Something for every budget! Superb!

What I like about your reviews is that they discuss the concept of diminishing points of return without directly asking the question. A pair of Q11S, with an Anthem MRX 540, KEF center, and a pair of Qs for the rear come in near the cost of the R11s. Not to mention that Anthem provides full room correction as part of the price. Nice job!

This review makes me want to hear the KEF Q Concerto... and I wish I could have auditioned the KEF Q Concerto Meta back in 2020. It may or may not have altered my speaker decision at the time, depending if the high end is tamed down a smidge from the KEF R3 - which I found quite fatiguing. Great review and comparisons.

@@andrewrobinsonreviews I hope they see the enthusiasm on your channel for the concerto. I have the Q350, and while I love it, I was considering the R3 meta as an upgrade someday because of the limitation of the Q350's 2 way design. The Q Concerto seems made to answer that concern.

@andrewrobinsonreviewsАй бұрын
I think colors would be cool, though maybe that is a bridge too far in making or turning the Q Series into the R?
@francescotenti193Ай бұрын
Well, it seems to me that the R and the Q are marketed for entirely different pockets, given the huge difference in price. You can add a very capable amplifier and source(s) to the Q 11 and still be shy of the cost of just the R11. To a lesser degree, the difference in price, almost double, could still be a factor with the SVS, where with the Polks, at a similar cost, is just a preference in looks and sound. As always, great review!
@techsamurai11Ай бұрын
I think this speaker looks a lot nicer than the old Q950 as KEF slimmed the front and made it deeper. The old Q950 had a terrible trait of being too wide and not deep enough. These are a good price but they do seem a bit monochromatic. The metal plinth would have made them look sexier along with a better KEF badge. It doesn't have to be like the Mission 770 but it could look more like the center channel's badge which is different. 🙂 The true value of these is the fact that they do play low and many people could save money on a sub. Plus music will sound more full range with them.
@GamingRevenantАй бұрын
Yea... no matter what you say, I made a HUGE mistake going for an all-R home theather system. I should have waited two years and save myself almost €5k. If they're that close to one another, with differences so unimportant you'd never hear them unless A/B-testing any R-series speaker is, as of now, a total net loss of money spending. Makes me really feel like I made the wrong choice.

Great review, Andrew! I get the sense that the new Q series vs R series closeness in quality sound is similar to what happened with the R-series vs the Legend series? The use of tech from the higher-end line ensures the more budget-friendly option has a lot of value for customers. It makes the unattainable, attainable for more consumers. I LOVE THAT! Actually, it makes good sense from a business perspective, too. Everyone wins! QUESTIONS: Is this a trend? Will others follow this act in components AND build quality (i.e., Klipsch RP vs Heritage)? Also, are the expectations of hi-fi consumers changing as they witness some brands like KEF and Polk provide better value?

So, so awesome to see the lower end of the market being arguably the most competitive and also being the most valuable (in my opinion) in general. At this point, unless you genuinely couldn’t care less if you spend a thousands or 100 thousand bucks, there is genuinely no point to go even over 10K. Absolute greatness is now achievable there. It reminds me of the old TV evolution, 10-20K dollar plasma from yesterday, turned into monster OLED TVs for 2-3K. Absolutely amazing progress. Here’s a question for you guys: with such a vast amount of choices now available in this hobby and price points, it’s becoming harder and harder to locate a lot of them in one place to demo. What do you consider the best way for people to demo speakers? Especially for those who don’t know what kind of sound they’re enjoying most or looking for or are new to this hobby altogether. As always, great review and am excited to hear Kristi’s thoughts on this line! Happy Sunday everyone! 🎉

Good morning. Kristi you were right those Sooner fans crawled back North of the river with their tails tucked deep between their legs. Hook 'em horns! This review brings up an interesting general question I have for you two... If you were to hang up your reviewing career and invest in one set of speakers for the foreseeable future (say up to $10K budget) would you buy a pair of floor standers or a potential higher-quality pair of bookshelf speakers. I think you can apply this question even with regard to this review in the form of the Q11 Meta vs R3 Meta but I'm really interested in how you would personally go with the above listed budget. Thanks again for a great review.

Having heard the Q11 meta, R3 meta, and R11 meta In the same room on the same amp personally, I can agree with the sentiment of preferring R3 over Q11 or vice versa. With that said however, I respectfully disagree with the Q11 being similar to the R11 meta. The R11 is substantially better overall especially in the highs. The biggest difference from the old Q series to the new Q series is better soundstage precision and cleaner bass and lower mids. That being said, the Q11 is noticeably more rolled off in the highs compared to both the Q950 and the R11 meta. Compared to the Q950s or R3s, I’d say it’s a matter of preference. But compared to the R11s, there is no debate, the R11 has so much more detail and control in the midrange and treble compared to the Q11.
@andrewrobinsonreviewsАй бұрын
I'll quote myself here: "Now - before you let your emotions swing to one extreme or the other, hear me when I say that the R11 Meta is STILL the better overall speaker, especially if your quest is for greater neutrality and control."

Unfortunately, I cannot say if the new Qs are an upgrade to the old 950s, as I have never heard of those. Compared to the R11 Metas, which are three times the price, the R11s aren't what I would classify as bassy speakers, and when it comes to the bass, the Q11 Metas have more low-end presence, shown in our graphs. I'm not sure if that ultimately helps you, but it's the best I have.

Love the look of the modern kef speakers, they look really classy and well built. It's not just Kef who are guilty of this but i wish speaker companies would all rate their sensitivity at 1 watt instead of fudging the figures with the 2.83v rating. That speaker is 89db advertised sensitivity but it's really 86db at the standard 1 watt which together with the low impedance could be an issue for some amplifiers at higher volumes.

I'll try to cover this in Friday's Unplugged.

I try to get an understanding of the difference between something like a pair of KEF Q11 Meta for 2200€ and a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 500 for 1200€. I don't have an opportunity to hear them side by side and maybe you can give a general ranking for things that will differ between some price points. I chose those two speakers because I love their design.

Monitor audio, from my experience, is a great great brand but is more of a mid-tone speaker. The mids are warm and full. Personally I don't like such speakers (just as B&W speakers). Dali and KEF speakers are more fun, while they measure neutral, the sound has more bass and energetic highs with somewhat lesser mids. My Dali's and also KEF don't like shrill rock sounds, which would benefit more warmth in the mids (to my ears, but I don't like pure rock so I'm fine). They like anything else though!
@ChrisCiapalaАй бұрын
Dang, they look good in white. Would clash with everything what I have in the room though. In the EU, KEF competes heavily with Monitor Audio, I wonder how those would stand against Silvers 500 7G, I believe you reviewed them some time ago?

Now I'm wondering if the new line will be good enough to replace the older Q line. I love my Q150s but I'd consider something newer when the time comes. Thanks guys, great food for thought.
@andrewrobinsonreviewsАй бұрын
Yeah, that's one question I cannot answer because it has been too long since I heard the previous generation Q line. I want to say there are notable and obvious improvements, but then again, I would've never expected this new Q line to compete so well with the costlier R Series.

I always enjoy your reviews and though it's telling that you compared them to your R11 METAs, I wish you recalled your impression of the Q750s a bit better for direct comparison since they're on clearance right now.

Love the video and seeing the Q11 meta kickass is awesome!! If speaker companies want to retain customers and keep them from just saying fuck it and getting Sony Quads or the Canvas and just calling it a day, they need to make incredibly exciting and attractive speakers at competitive prices.

I would imagine this signals that the redesigned R-series will be that much better than the existing R-series.

I know they’re very difficult to get a hold of but I’d love to hear a review on a pair of Danley Sound Labs speakers. With DSP, they’re likely the best speakers you can get your hands on. They’re unbelievable.

Hey! Andrew awesome review as always! I currently own the previous Q750, would seriously think of upgrading to these. However, would my Pioneer LX-305 be good enough power these or should I step up to a beefier AVR?
@JeffHeonАй бұрын
Everybody and their dog were waiting for that review 😅 Thank you! I think finish could be a reason besides sound quality to consider the R line, are they close? I wonder how they will compare to the new Q Acoustics 3050c 🤞Or how the would have compared to similarly priced Sourcepoint 8.

hmm, thank you for the review! Sometimes I find my self to be anoyied by speaker which have to much of imaging precision, namely with vocals where the speaker reveals too much of voice placement which many times , i feel, is not stable. For the purpose to soften this, Q series might be better for me.
@a.j9645Ай бұрын
They both sound good and they both cost as much as my first born so they really should sound like the voice of god. Waaay too much money for what you get comparing to much cheaper options.. Nice review as always though🙂🇸🇪👍
@katie_0258Ай бұрын
Great review, but how does they sound at low volume? like 60-70db, or night time listening. The R series doesn't work with it, so I am wondering if Q's are better that way.
@andrewrobinsonreviewsАй бұрын
I liked the Q11 Metas in that volume range, more so than the R3s even, so you may have a better solution in the new Q.

Wish there was a comparison to the Martin Logan Motion FX F100. When it was compared to the R11, the comments were that the ML had more dynamics and depth with a slight trade off in detail resolution. That seemed to be the same commentary when comparing the R11 to the Q11. So it brings up the question about the relative differences between the Q11 and ML F100 since they are apparently in the same ballpark on the sound front with an opportunity to save 2x with the KEF while deciding between the ML's pinpoint sound directivity vs KEF's wider dispersion.

How does the Kef Q11 compare to the Martin Logan Foundation F2 which are around the same price?

How do they compare to the Martin Logan XT? I am unsure why that line does not get more attention online.

@@andrewrobinsonreviewsPlease do note this above question for Friday - my favourite speaker currently is the Motion F20 (just as good as the XT F100 but smaller in my opinion). I also visited the Melbourne Hifi Show on the weekend where they were A/B’ing the new Q Concerto Bookshelf vs R7 Floorstanders and just how close they were in sound… incredible for the price! And here the Q11 Meta is literally 42% the cost of the Titans… I’m very impressed with the value of this line!

As long as these test well, I’ve already added this whole line up to be next upgrade for a total HT setup!! The new svs are still a bit too much but these being 3 way as well as the different speaker options as me 99% sold!! Can’t wait!! Ps. I plan on using iso acoustics for any feet issues! :) 🎉

We've been requesting something from their top line for a while. KEF is one of those brands where you are on their timetable when it comes to review samples.
