Imagine sentry mode notification on your phone (for alarm state) that shows you the cameras in real time when you open the notification. Tesla should add this to their official app. They probably don't want people bogging down their LTE though. They should have an LTE plan that isn't throttled, does this sentry thing, and lets you turn your car into a wifi hotspot.

@@UndecidedMF I also wish they gave their mobile app a revamp and made it fit the design language of the os it is running in (iOS/Android) or carried over the design language and cues from their V10 car software. The more I look at the app, the more I notice that it looks like an app from the original Droid days. I write frontend and mobile software for a living so I'm probably just super picky about this stuff, but still.

One of the best uses of abetterrouteplanner is to gauge how long range one actually needs when deciding what EV to buy. Is it ok to go down in battery size if the charge rate is good? How msny longer road trips do you take per year and what are the typical travel times for them in all the different cars available. Is it worth the extra money? Is it worth it to just not stop at a petrol station all the time?

Great info, Matt, and thanks! If you're still looking here, do you find that TeslaFi won't let you car sleep? Based on the screen info at 3:56 in the video, the answer is no. Looks like your car sleeps fine. I have not been able to tweak the Sleep settings in TeslaFi in order to make that happen. So, unplugged, I lose close to 1 mile per hour. I just emailed TeslaFi to see if they can recommend anything, Otherwise, as geeky cool as the app is, I'd rather have the range back. One thing I don't want to do is have to restart logging manually every time I drive, and disable it manually after the drive. If you have any hint, I'mm all ears. Have a 2020 M3 LR AWD if that matters. Thanks!

Hi Matt. Regarding the STATS app- I’m trying to get a clear answer about the main reason I want a Tesla app: will it tell me the total amount of charging I draw from my home charger? I want to know the kWh that I use for a day, for a week or month. Or better yet, over a period I can set (like the 8 week period of my electricity/Hydro bill). The App store only says 'A graph that shows stats related to your charging sessions’ or 'Displays several detailed information related to charging the car’. Or is there another app that might do this cheaper? Thanks so much.

It should be straightforward to add an openid or “apps list” on the Tesla account page. Question is, how many people want this? On the point of opening up the in-car ecosystem to 3rd party apps - I disagree. As a dev myself I understand the nuisances regarding hardware performance and how tricky it can be to sandbox 3rd party apps. On an iPad this can be managed with enough dev time and protections. Even the Apple App Store misses sketchy code in apps on occasion and their review process is possibly the most stringent. However in a car - a machine that could kill you if the UX wasn’t snappy on a display which feeds info to a driver controlling a machine that could potentially take a life- well that needs a different risk profile. I think keeping the primary display computer isolated from external code (3rd party apps) is the way to go for now.

@UndecidedMF4 жыл бұрын
You could look into smart garage door openers like MyQ, but I’d be nervous about having my phone as the trigger to automatically open the garage door. Perhaps using a smart tracker linked to a smart home hub like Smartthings. Leave that tracker in your car. When your house detects the smart tracker it triggers the door. It’s a bit convoluted and requires some setup and cost (cost of hub, tracker, and garage door opener add on). Don’t think it’s a better option than the $300 Tesla option.

There is no need for Tesla to open their authentication system to 3rd parties; they should simply allow users to generate API keys so 3rd party apps can use them to authenticate. Ideally you would generate 1 API Key/app and this way it is very easy to remove access to a single app without impacting the other ones.

Great job Matt. Hopefully Tesla will be inspired and integrate these features into the car and app respectively in the future.
