I saw this town on the map and I didn't really think much of it, seemed like any other town, however, I was longing for a break, thus I decided to make a stop. In the end, I am super glad I did. This was really refreshing. Having grown up in Kelowna, it’s nice to see its good sides in one video. Big white is probably my biggest reason for living here as I’m not much of a wine enthusiast. My only issues with Kelowna, as a poor Mexican Ubco student, is that the transit system isn’t very good compared to something like Vancouver and the racism is kinda bad. Ive been kicked out of gas stations and if I take a run late at night, someone’s always going to ask me if I have drugs. But I’ve never been offered drugs, is that racist or selfish? I’m not sure, but I would say running at night isn’t a good time to run. Anyways, the restaurants are good but far apart, this isn’t Vancouver. I have to recommend the kekuli cafe with their incredible take on bannock. It’s out of the way especially if you’re in Winfield where Ubco roughly is, so don’t live in Winfield. Or Rutland either, well Rutland isn’t far but you will be picked on if you live in Rutland. Only advantages to Winfield is the access to Ubco, and Vernon, which is 40 minutes away from Kelowna but only 20 minutes from Winfield. Vernon has a very neat downtown vibe, I would argue more interesting and diverse than Kelowna, but don’t live in Vernon, it’s just fun for a photo day and that’s it. Winfield is also known for its kangaroo farm, which would be worth a visit to Winfield, but don’t worry it’s coming to Kelowna soon. There also used to be a crocodile farm in Kelowna, but it was shut down for some possibly illegal crocodiles. Also Kelowna has some crazy Japanese garden, it’s really close to a fairly decent Korean place, hoolala chicken cafe, which serves party trays of chicken squid and cheese. It would be nice if we had more street food, but sometimes pizza in a cone is the best you can get. If you ever see Peter the German and his sauerkraut truck, ask him for his secret flavour, Ze shocker. Other things to check out? Wentworth music is an incredible school/community for any kind of musician. And Toshidos MMA, while expensive, has made pro fighters like Rory MacDonald. Ultimately, if you’re young, which is truthfully rare in Kelowna, there’s lots of ways to blow your money aside from wine and food. Because you’re not spending it on clothes. There’s is no shame in wearing pyjamas in Kelowna. It’s lawless. But Kelowna is also a very comfortable place with cafes every corner and maybe too many gyms with a thousand treadmills but only two benches. It’s very laid back. People are friendly mostly, and it’s really grown, there’s even a movie industry now. Hope this helps if you’re planning on moving here or visiting.

Lived here for 24 years... you have great shots but I will never understand why tourism videos pick the same places over and over again. There are so many places that are less populated and offer the same experiences/views.... but I guess if it’s your first time here those wouldn’t be worn out. Maybe it’s just me that hates Knox... but seriously, if it’s a view of the valley you’re after, Spion Kop isn’t too far away (maybe 20 minutes) and is a much less populated hike.

I’m from Kelowna and its nice that people find it this beautiful but this is just kind of funny from a locals perspective. Knox and Boucherie myra are pot smoking and drinking hot spots, there’s been so many parties in these areas held by 14 year olds and it’s totally in the norm to see a bunch of loaded kids in the area. Downtown is insane for drugs culture, party culture. The sad thing about the place is that it’s not really built for young adults, it’s built for families and tourists. So nightlife, party culture and homelessness amongst the young is pretty bad. Tons of business don’t last long, like for instance some of the brewers I see in these videos are EXTREMELY new and there’s a large chance that once brewery fad goes down, that these places won’t last and Kelowna will be onto the next cool thing. It’s kind of like a small scale version of your Vancouver or LA that just tries really hard to seem humble. I’m not trying to be a party pooper but I’m a local who took the step to leave like a lot of us do because we don’t have much purpose or opportunity to grow and succeed in Kelowna, it’s a really small town vibe in a place that doesn’t come across as so. The wine culture is amazing though, I highly recommend vibrant vine to everyone, it’s far above and beyond many of the well known wineries in the area. Also for a LONG time standing local business to eat at that I would put above many on that block because most of those business DONT last, I would recommend Krafty Kitchen with their weekly hip hop brunch. Or Kelowna Street Food hidden behind the tracks down town. They’re long time Kelowna staples that have earned their name and their place within the city and have survived far beyond most small, trendy restaurants in the area.
@choptopjo5 жыл бұрын
Also to peoples comments, Kelowna is by no means an amazing place for happiness and success, not only is drug addiction a problem but so is murder and suicide. In large scale numbers, Weve lost more people then I’d like to admit to murder and suicide within Kelowna and it’s scary. People have been found in fields of orchards, shot and killed in a lot of these lookouts. There’s an insane gang culture that’s resulted in public shootings and innocent families being tortured to death in THEIR OWN homes. Be wary.
