Also grades are a very serious thing in Japan. The better your grades, the better highschool you can get into, and thus the better college you can get into. There are some jobs that won't even look at the rest of your application once they look where you went to school. Think of the difference between Stanford and a state college, and that starts in Highschool in Japan.

There are at least one janitor per school. They fix the things and maintain the buildings, clean the rest of rooms that the students don't (teacher's and principals room, etc), and do the same works as the other countries' janitors do. And please don't call them the student janitors. They just clean where they use including the student bathrooms.

The uniform thing also happens here in Trinidad. Head to toe, there are rules about what you can wear and how. Uniforms are a plus though, as it takes the pressure off of kids, who can't afford the 'best' of everything. So they don't feel alienated (at least in that way).

Me and my mum often argue on what I should wear because I have a comepltely different taste to hers. Going out for shopping is literally a nightmare for me. I also just genuinely like the feeling of wearing a suit. I've gotta say that I enjoyed wearing a uniform way more than I enjoyed wearing my casual clothes ngl

Here is a tip for those going to a Japanese school: If you just meet someone please use the suffix -san with their last name (EX: Tamahashi-san). You can call them with their first name if you’ve known them for a long time. Please use the suffix Sensei with a teacher. It is basically how foreigners say Mrs. (Last name). (EX: Tamahashi-sensei). If you are entering a Japanese elementary school, let your parents teach you how to cook due to the elementary not letting you bring lunchboxes (Only the high school brings them). You cannot bring your cellphone as it is considered as a distraction. You would also need to walk home, and try to memorize where you live. (Or, you can take a bus. Don’t worry, 6+ children can travel alone. You cannot slouch around in cleaning time.

The students must have their hair up, but if it's too short it can't. Your hair can't be in a bun, or messy. Only one type of earring is allowed. We have mufti days about 3 times a year, and we can only wear blue, pink, yellow or purple during those days. There's more, but that's the jist of it, lol.

if you are in middle school or high school you probably have someone with super powers somewhere in your school. it is not as common in elementary schools.they usually sit next to the windows.

I live in Japan and I’m a junior high school student, whenever my volleyball bukatu teacher gets mad he yells at us and reminds us it isn’t a club -_-

Some high schools have no uniforms. That high school is always a smart school.

"Beginning with junior high..." Nah, even sooner. The elementary school near my apartment has a uniform. Also it's more like summer break is 1/3 as long as it is in the states. They basically just get august off. For reference, imagine if summer school in american schools was mandatory. That's how long the school year is.

I don´t know but, this actually sound harder on paper but makes sense why it gives pretty good results too. I mean it doesn´t bad at all and could deal with it. Except for the extra day of school on saturdays, that´s a crime.

The thing I hate about Japanese schools is the school years. Beginning in April because "the spring signifies the beginning of new things to come" is absolutely bullshit if I've ever heard an excuse like that.

Students cleaning the school wouldn't be a bad thing to adopt in other places IMO, especially since in my high school we lost condiment containers because some thought it was funny to throw full ones down the hallways.

I'm from Ireland and we have the same rules for uniform, america and Canada are the only countries were its common for schools to let children were their own clothes

American schools still have uniforms though. It just if the school itself has a uniform code or sometimes the students themselves refuse to wear it which the school then becomes laxs with dress code. By the time I was in middle school I switched school in 6th grade which later in the year even after I graduated in 8th grade dress code became almost whatever the student wanted to wear. Even in high school there was a dress code but around the time I was in 10th or 11th grade every student went from business casual to street clothes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't students required to join an afterschool activiy? And if they can't find one that they like, then they have to make one (minimum 3 members). Also, high school is not compulsory like in other countries. That's why high schools can be so selective. Despite not being compulsory nearly everyone goes. I think it's like 99% of people go on to high school or something like that.
