I will say YES most of all trainers first and foremost. I get caught at the park sometimes and folks/kids/parent ask which is the best first aircraft......I reply 100% of the time get to WalMart get the $19 to $25ish model ya like, and see if it is something you will enjoy learning more about. Tops $25 your out if you or kid lose the interest. Most of those are 3 channel, they will cut teeth for the 4 and 6 channels that I fly here. Jump into a $100 aircraft dislike the sport or wreck the aircraft, will leave a distaste but hey a replaceable $19 might help ya stay with it. This is an always evolving, adding technical features & techniques, it always takes time to grasp the "NEW FEATURES" patience and tolerance is key.

One thing I say a lot to new flyers. The throttle is not a switch and your plane will fly at half throttle. I've seen several ppl take off and leave their throttle maxed out the entire flight.

Buy a simulator to practice has to be best advice. As suggested.. make sure your first plane is a trainer with good reviews. I bought an F15 EDF but then saw sense to learn on something less expensive but DON'T just buy a cheap plane like I did, and a war bird at that, as it's false economy. I bought a few cheapies and prop types and they were all a complete waste of money and effort. Out of frustration I then tried my EDF and the thing just flew out of my hand much to my relief. #6 If you're guna keep it up, next invest in a good transmitter (all else fails resale values are excellent).

A couple extra tips. Buy a trainer tail dragger. If you can take off and land a tail dragger you can land almost anything. Also support your local hobby shop if you have one. Buy a trainer and other stuff from the brands they carry. I’m watching mine go out of business right now because companies make it tempting to buy from them even if you can pick it up at a store. Lastly don’t be the guy that stands at the end of the flight line and tries to do it himself. There are many people more than happy to do a trim flight with you and make sure you have successful first flights.

James great advice for the beginners. Over 50 years ago a lot of this was not available. Crashed many times before I was able to get up and down it 1 piece. The Old Man enjoying with my coffee ☕. ✈️😎💝

FMS Flying Model Simulator is simple and free and works, despite its age, on Windows 10 machines and (probably) with your favorite transmitter. If you look hard enough you can even find 100s of additional plane models. Also free. Free is good to start with and dip your toes in.

That cub wasn't the best example. Most people have cracked the cowling on that thing and tip stalled flying to slowly. Just my 2 cents. The xk a800 is a beauty.
