I'm from Perú. Thank for your presentation , sometimes I think the letter "Th" voice sounds like "d". Could you give the advice to me? Please.
@SanDiegoVoiceandAccentАй бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching the replay of this class! Yes, this can sometimes happen where the "th" sounds like a "d", and this can happen for two reasons: 1) the speaker is actually pronouncing a /d/ instead of a "th" (especially if they are a non-native speaker of English), or 2) the speaker is using the reduced voiced TH tongue placement. For non-native speakers, sometimes the reduced voiced TH tongue placement does sound like /d/, but to native speakers, it doesn't! Native speakers can hear the difference between the reduced voiced TH and the /d/ consonant, even though they are very similar. Check out some videos on the TH sounds and the T and D consonants here and see if any of them help you: kzbin.info/aero/PLPGW9qP3ws5qZ7IGR-0-lBfl3QEQvNeWm Thanks!

is it a good idea to learn American accent, as i live in Canada? I'm assuming that Americans and Candadians have the same accent
@SanDiegoVoiceandAccentАй бұрын
Hi @moibra8110 - Thanks for your question! The American accent and the Canadian accent are very similar (though not 100% the same), so in my opinion, it would be okay if you learned the American accent. However, you'll find that there are a few specific vowels that Americans pronounce differently, and there are also some differences in vocabulary. I hope this helps! :)
