With the launch on steam, can you make a video that better explains blocking? I understand the purpose, but what's my priority areas to block? What happens when I run out of roads and need to delete my blocks? Do you keep things blocked forever or eventually clean up and allow spawn? Etc. I've been stuck around 2500 when things just get too crowded and fail.

The traffic lights have a really good use, but the developers made it that the traffic lights will make a really high flow instead of low flow.

Super helpful advice! I've been kinda languishing in between 1-2K scores, but I tried what you said about setting only certain house certain malls, managing the mall exits and being really anal about segregating the colors and managed almost 3K on Zurich without much sweat. Now to look at managing the spawns better since I had some really unfortunate ones and got killed trying to reroute highways.

Zlodevil 42 Amazing! They made major changes recently in how spawn works which makes it less RNG and easier for higher points imo cause spawn isn't as random anymore :)

A strategy I figured out is to block the shops from spawning near your color exclusive roads. There's nothing worse than having a shop's entrance connect literally on a road that you can't adjust

Traffic lights can help late game in highly congested intersections. They allow a group of cars to pass through without slowing/stopping. This increases total flow. If it's a congested intersection without the light cars will stop and wait to go. Roundabouts are not a solution here either as can get overwhelmed causing everyone to stop and wait for an opening and require more space to place. Also another tip - control the spawn, yes , but also allow the spawn, the way you make the score is how many trips, so if you have lots of places to go you will rack up points easily and quickly, if you try to stop spawning you will simply not have many trips before the game gets you to the situation that you can't supply your buildings,

One thing to be said here tho: At the time this video was uploaded traffic lights were nowhere near as useful as they might be today. They've been improved quite a bit :)

Great tips here buddy. These are definitely some tips I've been using on my playthroughs and they seem to work great. It is also worth mentioning that it's all very random and at times they might work and other times even with these tips applied we will still love really fast. Great content! 😉

Traffic lights don’t work in City Skylines either and for much the same reason - when each car is individually controlled, you need to be able to “store” a bunch of cars behind the red lights then let them *all* through. A little tiny sim city with 5 cars backed up already takes up too much space causing a cascade of traffic jam. If the cars could “stack” making a super-car but only if you used a traffic light then maybe they’d be useful.

There is a weekly challenge with the following modifiers: a fixed number of roads, random upgrades, and one starting motorway item. I controlled all the spaces and it resulted in one yellow market and 11 yellow houses that all wanted to go to one spot, causing a jam. So… I failed, funny enough 🤣

The Beijing daily challenge that just ended as I type this was designed to work COUNTER to #3 "build color exclusive roads"; sure, separate networks (even of the same color) as much as possible, but if your hand is forced by mall spawns, know where and when to integrate. Also I've found maybe ONE use for stoplights...three way ("T") intersections. The lights cycle faster. SO if you are forced to violate #2(b) "Don't make T intersections at mall exits", that may be helpful.

2 questions. (1) - You don't HAVE to connect a house that's far away? Also, I still don't know best use of an overpass. Great vid!

You don't have to connect every house. The malls will spawn pins and any car that's free atm will go pick one up. There's no real 'best use' for a highway since it depends on so many different factors. Technically it's best to build them longer since the cars speed up quite a bit. But there might as well be situations where you can use them best to overtake crowded sections 🤷🏼‍♂️

You forgot to try to prevent rows of houses by placing little roads or driveways of not used houses. These rows can be a big obstacle later.

I just can't figure out how people get the 10k+ score in cities with wery high traffic. In the beginning it seems to be okay, but then dots producing grows and all my cars haven't got enough time to take it. I don't know what to do in this case.

Actually, you can do a "roundabout" with 4 pieces of road Place them in the diamond shape

Yeah but it won't work since it's a roundabout going both ways. So cars will always go the shorter way.

@@HYDROPHILPLAYS cars cannot choose the shortest path since both paths are the same length Due to the game logic cars go in clockwise direction on this diamond even without roundabout I use this diamond shape as a crossroad, then I have to intersect two paths It is WAY more efficient than traffic light Diamond won't work, if you want to blend two paths, but works great if you need to cross two diferrent paths

So many youtubers say its good to build colours separate. I don't get it, why should it be better to connect two same coloured squares on the same roads than two different coloured squares one the same network?

Well simply because first thing to try would be connecting multiple colors together. And my experiences were that this will most likely create traffic jams because you have multiple ways joining and seperating again 😊

This effect keeps itself increasing. This cannot happen when you attach different colours only on the same streets.

So it’s possible to reach a point where your factories reach their limit and as long as you have enough houses feeding into them the game will run forever without adjustment. At that point it’s just waiting to rack up score, about 25k points per hour of waiting around. I found that about 13 factories is the optimal number to sustain. I have gotten 44,444 points on the Los Angeles map and 20,000 points on the Beijing map. I’m on the Tokyo map right now and I have a game going. I’m planning to stop at 9,999 since scores higher than that don’t show up on the leaderboards? Anyways I found out that if a double factory appears, your basically eventually going to die since those clog up no matter what you do or how efficiently. Plan efficiently and and try to control the area where factories spawn and you can do it too! This is only my third day playing :)

I'll be honest I have no idea what you mean by a tree shape. You mentioned it twice on the final tip but didn't show anything like a tree at all. I also don't understand blocking the exits. What do you mean exits? Each store has one exit and it's implicit, it cannot be blocked. You blocked the sides of the stores -- is that what you mean by exit?

Simply make sure that you block enough space around the exits of malls. Worst case would be two mall exits and or houses being too close to each other. Tree shape means y-intersections one after another. So that houses are joining the main road one by one.
