All these bike camper designs are cool but as someone who's almost been homeless I'd like to see more designs aimed at long term living rather than a few days camping! Of course the designs would vary based on individual needs and area but it would be cool to see what people come up with.

I'm planning on building a cargo trailer with almost like a roof top tent on top of it. Similar to the blow up one in this video, but smaller and using normal tent poles. I want it to clam shell open and have the tent spread open like a rainbow shape.

Solar Shower bags work well.. You fill the plastic bag with cold water, hang it in the sun for about an hour, then hang the bag high, and turn the valve on the tube to open the water thru a shower head.. they come as large as 40L capacity.

I recently used a kiddie trailer to transport my camping gear and clothes, food, etc. about 400 miles and I towed it with my Costco mountain bike. The trailer weighed in very heavy, probably 250 pounds or more. I had the problem of too much weight on the tongue or too heavy in the tail. Either extreme made it very hard to pull. I'm considering using the same trailer to convert to a rv camper like these but I think I'd like it to be four or three wheels for better balance. I thought two exact trailer models could be butted together but I think I may have trouble making tight turns. Also, I'd widen the wheel spacing about 4 inches on each side. On the other hand, I see some builders have used a headset and fork for the three wheel design so that fore-end or rear-end would turn independently as needed. Any plans or ideas available. Unfortunately, I have no access to welding equipment but maybe able to braze with a cheap mapp-gas torch and rods. This trailer would be a everyday unit.

Strong VERY Lightweight bicycle camper made from 3 inch Insulated foam sandwiched in between Two poly plastic cardboard sheets that are glued together to make the Top and sides of the camper. The home made alluminum trailer with 2 bicycle tires locks on to the back of a bike. The Base or bottom has 1/2 inch thick by 4 inches wide by whatever length you choose wood planks 5 inches apart that is rivetted to the alluminum trailer and on top of that a thin wood sheet of wall board glued with liquid nails is applied. People make things different but this setup is the lightest and strongest I came up with. The liquid nails Also glues down the foam walls to the bottom AND holds ALL the walls together. Buy some Plastic corner trim and put on the outside and glue them on with liquid nails. You pretty much have to make your own trailer to your likeness. I will make one and I am going to keep the weight under 75 pounds not including the stuff you put inside. How you make or cut your windows is up to you. I will make my windows out of thin clear plexiglass. I will use plastic trim and I will router in a section so the plexiglass can be pushed up and down and to hold the trim in place I will use liquid nails. The floor will be my bed with a blow up mattress. I will have magnetic knife holder , Clear Plastic jars where lid is glued somewhere to put things in , A Foam closet to hang my cloths , A small table you put in place or take out , USB Led lights powered by Millwalkee top off inverter and high output hd 12 -18 volt larger battery to power a small fan and a labtop , a large 500 watt solar panel on top of camper to charge the battery , A 5 gallon clear plastic water jug with spicket , Cabinets made of foam to put things in , A small coleman gas stove , A square plastic container to put dishes in to clean , Two fold up chairs , A winter sleeping bag and pillow , I use mobile hotspot for my labtop to watch anything I like , The larger shake light flashlight that takes NO BATTERIES , I will take along some dry goods to eat , I will make my portable kitchen to store inside camper , I will Have a plastic port a potti , I will have some lighters to start a fire , I will have a fishing pole and small tackle bag , AND I will have a small pencil sharpener to shave wood sticks to start a campfire.

I'm planning to make myself a fiberglass folding camper, using extruded polystyrene foam to make the mold that I will wrap it entirely in fiberglass and resin. When the caravan is made, the extruded polystyrene foam will follow as thermal insulation. For the caravan, I am inspired by that of "Wide Path Camper", I will modify a few details, with storage arranged differently, at the front there will be a fiberglass trunk to make a camping kitchen, the tower will be flat to accommodate solar panels, it will be equipped with a charge regulator, two large batteries and a transformer, which will allow me to recharge the batteries of my All Terrain Wheelchair "Quadrix Watt's E3" and be autonomous in energy. I have two dogs who have had difficult pasts (juvenile alcoholism, underfed, beaten and abandoned), my third dog left us two years ago, she had suffered the most. They were entrusted to me so that they could avoid shelters and so that I could offer them a good life. Being their first Human Companion to take care of them, they like to help me by pulling my wheelchair and especially not wanting to lose me, they watch over me a lot, they have thus avoided three attacks. As soon as I get my ATW For my dogs, I am going to convert my cart into a dog cart. With them they will be able to help me by towing their things (bowls, kibble, outdoor mats, toys) and my ferret's kibble, each in turn (it will be easier than towing my wheelchair with my cart attached behind the chair rolling). I was also hoping for the folding caravan with two solar rear lights, two rear lights which detect by inertia when you brake and light up bright red to signal to those behind that you are braking like on cars, trucks, motorcycle, I would take two models that have a remote-controlled alarm function, which detect by inertia when the bike moves, which sounds an alarm.

Hey everyone, so for those that might think aerodynamics is important on a bicycle trailer it's not for the most part. If your traveling under 30 mph or your trailer isn't huge a barrel top is probably the best design. Its sturdy and less likely to leak. Your biggest concerns are wind gusts t-boning you or continuous headwind that you have to fight. A pop up barrel top wins the design & innovation award.
@musaran2 Жыл бұрын
Strong disagree on aerodynamics. Mere bags have noticeable drag already. Human power is so limited, it can't afford must wasting.

Can not be quilted fabric needs metal to keep the wall from catching fire. Heat sources need five feet clearance or they start fires so tiny structures need to remember this and put metal around to protect structure and heat cant be up against walls either five feet clearance. This is why when people forget this then tiny huts tents campers or vans go up in flames .

I don't see the problem with just a tent. Modern tents are very quick to setup, take up almost no space. The problem they have is wind, but all these bike campers will have the same if not worse problem with wind. I'm building a 'moped' motorhome and giving it away on my channel.
@mikejones-vd3fg2 жыл бұрын
You think that but bicycle tourists who toured with tents say thats one thing theyd change, not having to setup and take down a tent everyday. I tink it was the inventor of the boat who said that. But yeah a bike camper seems like a lot of overheard for essentially just a thing just to sleep in and uncomfortably sit down in so Im having a hard time enjoying the idea of lugging one around, unless it could keep me warm in the winter, cool in the dessert sun, and safe from bears in the woods, a real off grid mobile then that would be cool.
