@@yorkyleefairbank A version in 7,62 NATO has existed but these guns aren't numerous 'cause soon after that , France has choosen the 5,56 x 45 ( 223 ) ammo for it's service rifle and has adopted the " FAMAS " . I reload French 7,5 x 54 cartridges and I use 7,62 bullets for this purpose . I've seen some 49 / 56 chambered in 30 - 284 for civilian use ( because or the former french guns laws ) but they don't work correctly because of this cartridge's shape . The 7,62 NATO version works fine . The French AA 52 machine gun has been successfully converted in 7,62 NATO instead or 7,5 x 54 MAS and it works fine too ( named AAN - F1 ) in this configuration . my late grandfather gave me his model remington model 81 woodman term chambered in 35 remington. He told me it was heavy to carry but it shot true and he always hit what he was aiming at. this holds true for me too. the iron sights are fine enough that I was able to take a doe down in the open at 120 yards dead right there but the power of the venerable 35 remington as a brush gun goes unnoticed. I've taken 2 deer where I know limbs and branches were sawed off mid flight but still hit hard and cleanly killed drt. those were my three shots hunting with this rifle and three clean kills. The model 8's and 81's are great rifles in my opinion. I know john browning had a stake in it as how similar the reciever are to his auto 5 shotgun. love your channel keep up the good work!

Congratulations, young man, I really like your videos. From my viewpoint as an old fart who has been shooting guns since 1967, I have to say that I really like the way your material is being presented. And I hope it won't ruffle your feathers if I say that there are a few small points where I disagree, but I only mean that as constructive criticism. Here, I would like to mention only two interesting points as part of such criticism. 1) I would not call the Mosin Nagant a "garbage rod". That old Russian war horse is a legend in itself. It has some shortcomings, but there are some interesting tricks meant to overcome them. I will go over that in some future video next year. 2) Full power semi automatics are awesome weapons all right, but they have some pretty major shortcomings...For one thing, youy must realize that no matter how simple the design, a semiautomatic will always need a bolt carrier to operate, and that adds an unpleasant amount of weight to the weapon. Even though I am 61, I like to take long walks. When you walk a long distance with a rifle on your shoulder, believe me, you will find it more convenient to lug around a bolt action instead of the heavier semiautomatic. If nothing else, you can carry more ammunition for the same weight to ferry around. You are of Swedish descent? In this case, you might be pleased when I tell you that the short barrel 6.5 mm Swedish Mauser is one of my all time favorite rifles! I sure would entrust my life with it, in case of the typical "fantasy and SHTF, China invades" scenario. But enough with the flattery. The greatest shortcoming of any FULL POWER semiautomatic is that its stout recoil makes it "quite uncontrollable when fired rapidly", these are not my words, this is what is mentioned in a great book by Howard Clinton Ezell. This particular reason is precisely why the Russians permanently discontinued the manufacture of the SVT 40 in favoe=r of the AK 47, which of course fires a REDUCED POWER round. Ironically, as an experienced shooter, I snub the reduced power autoloaders of today. By comparison to my old Mosin Nagant, I find the AK 47 to be ridiculously inaccurate! Well, that's all for now. Again, congratulations! I have no children, so maybe you could be the heir to my huge collection some day! I have no doubt that you would go bonkers over my unissued BRNO Persian Mauser.... But don't hold your breath. I sure hope to live at least as mucgh as my mother, who is now 81.....Life is good! (Have I heard that line somewhere before?)

Fun fact about the FN49 - They were made on contract for all kinds of different places in all kinds of different calibers. Most were in 8mm Mauser for how common it was, but a number were made for other chamberings. Luxembourg ordered a bunch in .30-06 to use as military sniper rifles, and Argentina ordered a small batch in .308 that actually *did* feature detachable mags. I BELIEVE this was for their navy, but I might be mistaken.

The Model 8 and it's successor the Model 81 are well loved guns that you cannot get cheaply. I own an 81 in 300 Savage and it is a monster. An accurate gun in any situation. Still bring it hunting. I've fired a Johnson. Very fun gun but bring an extra wallet to purchase one. The French gun, I've seen reasonably priced but never got one. Should pick one up, they seem fun. The AG-42B, is an absolute joy to shoot. Very very accurate even if you aren't really trying. Just a tight grouping gun, with new, surplus and reloads. 3 to 5 round groups the size of a quarter at 100yds, every day. An odd looking gun for sure, but impressive where it counts. The last one, the FN, I've always wanted but have yet to grab one. It is time to grab one. Keep up with the good videos. Keep reviewing these great guns.

Also many were obsolete by the time they were adopted at least the MAS, Hakim, Rashid, and FN-49 were. Johnson was a niche rifle for special troops. AG-42 was weird and adopted during the Second World War when every warring country had their own rifle which were the rich, militarily significant countries. Every other potential outside sale would have been to poor, backwards countries whose troops could not take advantage of the system. The Model 8 was developed during a time when semi-auto rifles were truly state-of-the-art and the there was still the Fudd mindset that it was unsporting to use anything but a single shot/double barrel/manual loader/etc. for hunting. So yea there were underlying reasons as to why these guns were underappreciated for their time but are slowly becoming appreciated again.

The french semi autos are NOT based on any Soviet design. The rear locking carrier actuated bolt is a French design preceding anything the Russians had. If the design was "borrowed" from anyone, it would probably be traced back to Arthur Savage. I have an old French bolt action I occasionally take to the range and people often mistake it for a Russian bolt action. To quote an old Polish guy I work with, "The Russians steal everything". Even the 7.62x54R is a knock off of a French invented round.

Wow!!! I've been in the gun biz for 40+ years, and I'm ashamed to say that I've NEVER seen or heard of ANY or these weapons! :-( I think the second one you showed on your video was way cool! I wouldn't mind having that one! Thanks for the vid!!! Ed

Rifle doesn't have to be attractive. It just needs to be reliable... Awesome vid

Just got a MAS 49/56 for Christmas. I love it! Mine is in 308 (it's a conversion, but was apparently done right, feeding problems are magazine based and I fixed them with 5 minutes with pliers), the only issue is that the firing pin is primer sensitive. Mine was already blunted but is now unreliable with 7.62, but won't slam fire 308s. It kicks like a .223 and is far more accurate than I am. It's so easy to work on, balances great and looks like a steam-punk retro-fantasy antique with its old worn patina and that crazy grenade launcher. I might buy another pin so I can shoot cheaper steel 7.62 at the range. It's hard to find cheap 308 by comparison.

johnson was issued to USMC parachute regiment/battalion in ww2 for the reason that m1 garand wasnt fully into production. Its barrel being detachable was a reason it was favoured for this. if i remember correctly the USMC paratroopers were rolled into the 4th marine division in 44 and formed the core of that unit.

I've got an FN49 built for the Argentine Navy in .308. They're the only ones built with a factory detachable mag. 10 and 20 rnds mags are available from a few surplus dealers, sadly FAL mags won't fit.

I was so glad to see the Johnson rifle, which I consider to be an excellent weapon. Paramarines in the Solomons actually preferred it over the Thompson. The SAFN was also a pleasant surprise Good job.

All very interesting rifles and I agree with your choices here. My father got out of guns last year and I ended up with his M1941. The 49/56 and aG42 both I found in local pawnshops about 15 years ago. Here in AR, folks don't pay attention to "foreign crap" like that so i got both for a song. Always nice to find like-minded folks online though, cheers.

That FN 49 is more aesthetically pleasing than any other wooden semi auto rifle from that era in my opinion.

Had a MAS 49-53 in .308/ 10 round mag. Shot four deer with it Wisconsin In one season, two for me , two for others. Mix any ammo fire flawlessly.Military Fmj to Winchester Supreme failsafe 180 grn.
@ravissary797 жыл бұрын
Bruce Grossheim do you have a rebounding firing pin spring installed to let it shoot both? Mine has a blunted pin so it won't slam fire, but it has trouble with some 7.62 primers because of that.

Great List ,.. And if you really hunt for them they did make a LE magazine that help something like 15 or 20 rounds for the model 8 too, I first saw these when I was a kid,.. my uncle had one.
