I was recently tagged by David, wonderful host of ‪@StillOnly35c‬ to divulge my top 5 undervalued comics. I had a blast filming this video and really thinking about what books I thought deserved to be on this list. Please be sure to check out his original video, and also those put out by ‪@AllSortsofWords‬ and ‪@LettuceComics‬ discussing the same topic!

A great selection of books Brandon. My favourites were: - Those Silver age pre-hero Marvel Monster titles. they are amazing and Im picking those up whenever I can. - X-Factor 6. Criminally undervalued; Fox Studios rwally mishandled Apocalypse which has seen this book tumble which is ridiculous given his impeotance in the X-Men. - Daredevil 1. Very much undervalued for such an important character that is a household name.

Thanks so much, David. I'm glad I'm a small channel that won't affect people going out and buying up the pre hero monster books. There are so many cool ones I like! And for sure on Apocalypse..can you imagine what might have happened to the price of that book if that movie had been a hit?! And yes, I should have used the term "household name" as he is universally recognizable. Thanks so much for starting this fun tag challenge, can't wait to hang with you on Friday!

Great list! In the same vein as the X-Factor 6, another undervalued book with a major villain's first appearance is Adventure Comics 283, 1st General Zod and Phantom Zone. A midgrade Superboy 68 (1st Bizarro) is around $1k while an Action Comics 242 (1st Brainiac) is >$2k. So it makes no sense to me, especially how much Zod has been exposed to the general public, that a midgrade copy of Adventure 283 can be had for
@Moncomics
@Moncomics Ай бұрын

Daredevil is such an odd phenomenon with its value. I always thought the Daredevil Netflix show was the characters big break into the mainstream that really resonated, but the book is still nowhere near the value of a Hulk or Spidey. It's good if you're a huge fan though, it means owning a piece of that history is within reach.
@Moncomics
@Moncomics Ай бұрын
I totally agree my friend. Ther Netflix show was well loved, but not enough to propel him into a different level of popularity. But yeah, big fans of him as a comic book character can get his first appearance a lot easier than those of Spidey, or Hulk. Thank you for watching!

Daredevil has always been considered a B list character and it's unfair to compare it to the Blue Chip titles. That being said, that can change, look what happened to Iron Man going from B List to one of the most recognized Marvel Characters. Bottom line Daredevil is lower valued because the general public doesn't care about this character, at least not at this point in time
@Moncomics
@Moncomics Ай бұрын
So after reading your comment and thinking awhile I feel you are correct in that it is unfair to compare it to big blue chip titles. My mind was coming from a place of big silver age first appearances, which he certainly is. I guess he is probably B list if I have to set my emotions and bias aside. I would put Ironman as more of a D-lister before his rise, but your point is valid. Unfortunately it takes media like movies to make the general populous care, which is sad because so many great stories take place within his books. Thanks for watching and weighing in, CJ

Early silver age Marvel monsters are priced low because there's no demand. I want you to see the bigger picture. There are 7.8 Billion people in the world, only about 4-5 million are collect comic books and only 5,000 or less people actually collect comic books from pre golden age to early silver age. More people buy silver-copper but the majority of the 4-5 million collectors buy modern books fresh off the shelf, the majority buys anime. In my opinion, you paid 100 dollars for those 3 books? It should be priced lower. Marvel and DC's most sold products right now are not comic books, they are movies, tv shows and toys.
@Moncomics
@Moncomics Ай бұрын
I think your logic is sound, but your numbers are off. Let's just talk the pre-hero monster books. Search any site be it eBay, My Comic Shop, Comic Link, or any LCS and those books aren't cheap as the supply is low. They are hard to find in high grade and if you do, they are expensive and due to their age, many were not left in good condition or were destroyed, so I can only afford mid to lower grade. I think there is demand for those monster books, especially ones that feature names used for future characters. The "prototype" books if you will like Journey into Mystery 62 with the name "Hulk" appearing on the cover. Just search that book across platforms and you won't find a ton. Sure, Marvel and DC's most sold items are the products you named, but I'm not collecting them. I'm collecting comics. I wish your statement was the case so I could pick the monster books up cheaper but it just isn't the case. If you have any leads on cheap books from that era please feel free to hit me up on Instagram, I'd love to find them more economical.
@DaveGroschel
@DaveGroschel Ай бұрын
The demand is very low for pre hero monster books. The market that is interested in them is very very low. They dont fly off the shelf. My advice for sellers who if ever they are going to sell pre hero monster books, is price them low. 25-30 dollars if it's a non key. I'll give you one store that sells vintage comics: pre-golden age-early silver age for very cheap, at only 15-25 dollars each: Ye Old Bookstore in Morristown, New Jersey. They might have pre hero monster books.
