We grow loads of tomatoes. Living in the burbs, it's difficult to have a garden large enough to sustain our family (plus horrific back issues). Several years ago, we started supporting an organic farm as a shareholder. They reached out to see if our home's porch could be a pickup location for shareholders. We agreed and now get to keep all unclaimed shares for ourselves or to share with others. It is a HUGE blessing to our family. Sometimes there are so many unclaimed shares that i struggle to get it all put up. We are so thankful for farmers. Love your channel.

Peppers are definitely in our top 5. We slice and freeze them an use them in stir-frys, fajitas, pizzas, etc. We use them all year long.

I really enjoyed this video. I have planted almost all you mentioned and I just know this is going to be my best garden year ever. I'm 62 but only started gardening in 2020 and really only seriously in 2021. Each year I learn more and more. Keep the garden videos coming...even if you repeat yourself...we forget from year to year and appreciate the reminders.

I dehydrate peppers, run them through a blender, and have pepper spice. Fantastic on beef, whether it's roasts or burgers. I use it on all meat. I keep it in a jar in the freezer, doesn't clump up.

Peppers are the "hidden" vegetable in sauces. Blend them and put some in your pasta sauce so good.

Grew up on subsistence type farm and we grew/raised almost everything we ate. Lots of green beans with each quart canned with a cloce of garlic.

Our family love carrots...I also can about 50+ quarts of my soup mix which is 1/2 carrots, 1/4 celery, and 1/4 onions.. it is a wonderful soup base for many soups. Something I can EVERY year!! Just a tip..if using a food processor to do your onions, put them in the bottom of your quart jar, as if you put them on top..the water has a difficult time going through them...

My top 5 are Tomatoes (salsas, soups, pasta sauces, pizza sauce, bruschetta, ketchup, BBQ sauce, enchilada sauce, Chili base, stewed, whole, diced, salsa verde, green tomato curry starter, green enchilada sauce) Sweet/hot peppers (pickled several different ways, hot sauce, diced or sliced and frozen for cooking, harissa, ingredient and other things like salsa and sauces etc) garlic & onions ( used in just about everything) lettuces for fresh eating, and number 5 is beans (green as well as shelling). I'd add my apples/plums/figs/berries too But I don't have to plant them every year.

I love sweet potatoes, but want plenty of white or yellow potatoes, too. We grow ours in grow bags. No bugs, no spiders, or any other pests. I agree with all five choices for basic start and most versatility. Yum!

I love your attitudes, smiles and laughs! I'm growing regular and sweet potatoes for the first time this year. Storage will be a learning process for these this year. I typically grow lots of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, cucumbers and berries. I either can or dehydrate most things to preserve. I plant fruit trees wherever we live but rarely get to harvest from them before we move. At 69 I think we may be in our last home? maybe 😄 I have 4 apple, 2 plum, grapes, black berries, raspberries, Honeyberries and eldeberries as permanent crops.

Great video!! My small garden is 10% fresh eating and 90% preservation. The only thing on your list that I don't grow is sweet potatoes, but I get them from a local organic farm to can. I plant whites. I can only hope that the organic part is correct! My carrots are overachievers, and always do well. My garden goes 365! It adds up!!

I love dehydrating my lettuce/kale/spinach/beet greens whatever. I make a green powder with it and add it to just about everything for extra green goodness.

Something I wanted to toss in here real quick.... Those carrot tops are edible. I toss them in when I cook greens or make salads. If you have chickens they will love those carrot tops too.

Can't believe 5b wasn't squashes. All of them are good. Storage is easy for the butternut and acorn. I live in 7b and it's pretty much a steam bath here too. Thanks for this vid. God bless!
