The Sigma 18-35 is a ridiculously sharp lens and built like a tank. The only problem is that its Autofocus can be hit or miss. Myself and many other users had a lot of issues with it backfocusing when using the viewfinder, but when using Live View, it was fantastic. Be aware that it may be necessary to buy the Sigma USB Dock to probably fix any focusing issues you may have, so factor in the price of the lens plus the dock when purchasing. Canon 10-18 is an absolutely amazing lens. The Canon 10-22 also exists but is much more expensive but 10-18 is optically superior to it in every way. I have the 24mm 2.8 and it almost never leaves my camera. Best $150 you can spend. I used to have the 50mm 1.4 and while it still holds up today, the 50mm 1.8 is a better lens overall with the exception of having a slightly smaller f stop. I found the 1.4 was too soft for my liking wide open. Some people may like depending on the type of photos or footage you want but, myself, I like my images to be very sharp. Just letting you know my experiences with the ones I've tried and had.

One of my favorite lenses for my 80D is definitely the 50mm I do almost everything with it from headshots to filming it's just super crisp and the autofocus is amazing

As a beginner and enthusiast starting with videography I have to say thank you :) Made things a lot easier since I was doing research before my purchase between 6d II and 80d. Now I know I can go with an 80d with kit 18-135 and mos def I'll try to get the canon 10 -18..... it just looks like the perfect combo :) Still on my entry level canon 1000d with 50mm 2.8 stm, but can't wait to start videos and storytelling in general. 50mm is my choice always as 1. it has a wider aperture it gives sharp edges of the subject 2. for APSc cameras it's like zoom upto 52mm aprox 3. 50mm is not a long focal length too. Overall, it'a an allrounder.

I have the Sigma 18-35, the Canon 10-18 and I agree with you on those. I mostly use the Sigma in low light. In good light I often prefer the 18-55 STM kit lens, because it's smaller and lighter and has longer reach as well as IS. I also have the Canon 50 1.8 STM. I already had the original 50 1.8 from 1987 (which is optically identical to the mrk ii that everybody else has, but with metal mount and focus window), but I never really liked it. So I bought the new STM version, and it's just SO much better. Most people seem to think that too is optically the same, but it's not. It's sharper (at 1.8 it's MUCH sharper!), and it focuses much closer. I certainly wouldn't trade it for Canon's ancient 50 1.4!

I've used the Canon 24mm f2.8 lens and the Canon 50mm f1.4 lens for video and photo work and they haven't failed me yet. i love the 24 for for making me play around with more ideas for creative shots and the 50mm give me the ability to get more of a cinematic look to it and give that great feeling for when I film at night in low light situastions

Getting those lines straight can be done by centering the camera/tripod so the "bowl" of the fish eye is central to the line in the frame. In this case the camera is too high to centre the lines, but you'd be sitting down to do the review. This data is more so for architectural photography but is helpful no matter what one is doing.

Thank you for such a great video. I just ordered the 80d with the 18-135 kit lens and it will be here on Friday. My favorite lens is the Sigma 18-35mm because of the sharpness. I will say however that all the lenses you deemed have their own advantages and I do like all five of them. In the end, I'm with you on the Sigma being number one. than you again for a great video, I found to be most helpful for the videos that I will me shooting.

The 24mm 2.8 lens is an EF-S lens and is actually only suitable for Crop cameras. This should be taken into account when planing a change to full format. The lens is, of course, extremely good for the price!

What a great video! I'm wondering if you could help me: I found a used stigma lens for great price online that is semi used. The thing is, it's for a Nikon camera and I have a canon 80d. The seller is including an adapter that will work for my camera. But will this work properly with the adapter? Meaning, will i lose any quality? Do you recommend i stick to original lens for canon 80d or a Nikon lens will be fine? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

That’s a good question. Ideally you would have the Canon mount, but you are not likely to loose any quality with an adapter.

GREAT POST! While I have all of the lenses you mention EXCEPT THE SIGMA, I did get the Canon 18-135 with my 80D. I have tons of other expensive Canon lenses as well, and others such as the Tamron 24-70 and the Sigma 50mm "art" lens. I too thought the new 18-135 would be a cheap, moderate performing kit lens. I was very wrong, and astonished at its performance. I don't know of a better lens for general photos and video than the 18-135 for even $750 more. Even on a tripod inside, I much prefer using the lighter and well performing 18-135 over a Canon 70-200 f2.8 or even the f4 version. The 18-135, for me, is more than: sharp enough, quiet enough, light enough and built well enough to be the winner, by far, in its price range.

Can you comment on any noise issues when shooting video with this lens? I just ordered it as a kit with the 80D and kept second guessing myself. My first order several year ago with a kit lens was a disaster for video an ended up sending it back - though that was a notch below STM (I don't even remember now - I believe it was just standard kit on a t3 or t4 so fairly old) - I didn't know what I was buying and it didn't work out. I am crossing my fingers this one can work for me for video until I can invest in another.

Sean O’Kana the 80D is not full frame. It is an APS-C camera. And yes, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is sharper than many primes on the market.

The EF-S lenses are actually made for APS-C sensor cameras so you don't have to worry about a crop factor.

Hey Carlos, I’m pretty sure the 6d mark ii is not a mirror less camera. It is full frame so you have to make sure the lenses work with that. Otherwise it’s the same mount
