Weird top 10, why are these the top 10 in your opinion? Even at the low price range it's hard to argue some of these belonging to any top 10 if you know about all (or even a bit more of) the available lenses. For example, some of the Sigma ART lenses should be here for sure. Sigma 18-35 mm ART is designed for APS-C and it's very sharp and fast with a fixed 1.8 aperture. Also, you included two 85 mm lenses, one being cheaper and with a bigger max aperture, and you're recommending it as an alternative to the more expensive and 2/3 stop (you said full stop) smaller aperture without even mentioning that the Samyang has no auto focus. I'd be pissed if I just blindly followed your recommendation and realised after the fact that it has no auto focus. People, always be critical when looking at these top 10 recommendations!

Rather than give yourself so much headache, buy the following lenses. It will cover virtually all the length you want. 1. Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 (It is very wide and fast coming with F2.8 apperture opening as opposed to the F3.5 of Canon 2. Sigma 18-35 F1.8(With this, I am not sure you need to buy the 24mm pan cake or lenses in the range 18 to 35mm as well as considering the very fast 1.8 aperture opening. 3. Canon 50mm F1.8 (Must have) 4. Then get a Zoom to finalize your lens needs. You dont need a bunch of lens.
@rogerb53185 жыл бұрын
Easy yoke Films this comment makes a lot of sense to me. I currently have the 10-18, 50mm 1.8. I’ll end up getting the 55-250 when I need it. Sounds like the lens I should be saving for is the sigma 18-35. How does the 18-35 compare to the sigma 17-50 f2.8?
@myownalias7 жыл бұрын
A couple of things, firstly if you put an EF 50mm lens on 80D or any crop sensor camera, it'll give you an 80mm focal length due to the 1.6x crop factor, focal length on EF lens are what you'd get with a full frame (35mm equivalent) camera. Second, the 10-18mm may be a little sharper than the 10-22mm, but the 10-18mm does suffer from flaring and ghosting of light sources, the 10-22mm does not suffer from the same infliction. I own both lens so I can attest to that fact.

Great list, thanks!! One I'd add is the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Makes a better prime even than the 50 as it gives you room to move in while maintaining a wider frame, and the picture is even crisper! One downside compared to the 50 is a bit more focal noise.

my top lenses for 80D: sigma 18-35mm 1.8 (or) sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4 - Travel, daily use, video etc Sigma 16mm 1.4 (or) Samyang 10mm 2.8 - Astrophotography/landscape 50mm 1.4 (or) 1.8 - Nifty fifty is just barebones essential. Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM (or) Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 (or) Canon 55-250mm STM - Sports, wildlife etc. Aside from these, I'd say others are additions, but try to go for 3 or 4 good lenses at most, should be enough and perect for a travel rucksack like lowepro etc. Always remember, your lens is the most important part of your gear so get quality. if you can't; just wait patiently and save for it.
@timelord22225 жыл бұрын
For landscape shooters (i.e. not requiring fast apertures), consider Canon's "kit-trinity" zooms (10-18, 18-55, 55-250 STM). Coverage from 16-400 in FF equiv. Can't get more affordable than this.
@ryanvalorflamevisuals96908 жыл бұрын
In my personal opinion on these lenses you list here i feel as if the 55-250 lens should be a 70-300 for a good telephoto lens, another lens that be swapped out is the 10-18mm lens because you have the 10-22mm lens and it give a better quality in it sharpness for Photography and Videography.

The 50mm 1.8, 17-55 and any of the kits lens are fine for beginners or hobbyists but if you want to get a better bang for your buck and utilize the 80D to its fullest potential you need to spend the $$ on quality lens. I have the 80D and have it paired with the Sigma 18-35 1.8 -- great for portraits, family shoots, landscape and nightscapes. Amazing lens, great build, super sharp and great bokeh. Well worth the money IMO. Once released later this year I will be looking at adding the new Sigma 70-200 2.8 Sport to my collection to give me that reach that the 18-35 lacks.

@melenriquez89857 жыл бұрын
I think the 50 f1.8 STM is better vs the 50 f1.8 mk 2. I had the 50 f1.4. This is a sharp lens though there are many copies that are soft or some other issues. The AF clutch is also flimsy. It can break if you put too much pressure on the lens barrel. The 50 f1.8 mk2's AF is slow and noisy (not good for video) and has veiling flaire. Bokeh is not as great and specular highlights tend to represent the 5-blades aperture. But it is a sharp and cheap lens in its time (U$69). But to avoid problems and reduce flare get better bokeh, go for the 50 f1.8 stm. I have a good copy of the 10-22. I would not trade it for the 10-18. Faster lens, more range, and sharp. No IS though, but with wide, that is hardly needed. IF I were budget constrained, I'd go for the 10-18, but if I am not or there is a good cheaper used copy, the 10-35 is better.

@eddieoreilly93917 жыл бұрын
Justus Govaert Only my opinion but I own both and don't find either to be significantly better than the other. With my copies i find the 10-22 is a bit sharper across the frame and has that extra range, but sometimes i need the IS or want to focus closer so i go for the 10-18 and it's plenty sharp enough. I decide which one to use depending on the job I'm doing but generally the 10-18 lives with my 80D in the video kit and the 10-22 with the 7DMkII in my photo kit. They are both very good lenses for crops. For me it comes down to personal choice rather one being all round better. If you're on a budget you won't be disappointed with the 10-18 but you will probably be swapping lenses more.

I have 70D + Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II and it looks like quite often it misses the focusing at 2.8. Not sure whether there is a problem in my lens or maybe this lens is not good for APS-C body but are there any tricks to improve focusing with this couple? I really like this constant f2.8 but its focusing is not as good and sometimes as fast as my canon 55-250 STM lens.

In your knowledge, do we have a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens in aps-c version?? I simply can't get it searching on Amazon or Canon site..

ef lenses will work on both Full Frame and APS-C sensor cameras, on the other hand EF-S will not work on Full Frame but they will work on APS-C

@@jotabe1984 I know they work.. but a crop factor comes into play for ef lenses used on crop sensor bodies. That's why asked for an ef-s lens., where 50 mm wud work and behave just like 50 mm

I liked the comment about the 18-135 which, it looks like I"m getting. I want to use it for travel and have one lens for-all . I have been steered away from the 24-105 canon f/4 USM because it doesn't make a big difference on a crop sensor'd camera, so I've seen...I was intrigued by your mention of the 24-70 F/4 Canon as well Canon, which I may wait for so I an play with the 18-35 for awhile. I would probably buy something for my daughter with the gift card ( if it was available still, I know this is a 2017 video) or commodities for myself, like sonicare toothbrush replacements or razors ;-)

But isn't the 50mm prime 1.8f lens going to be an 80mm since the canon 80d has a cropped sensor?

Yep. Equivalent to an 80mm f/2.8 on a full-frame sensor camera. Which makes it a great portrait lens for a reasonable price for APS-C sensor cameras.
