This is an old video but since nobody's explained, the reason live plants help with humidity is because they take water up from the substrate then sort of breathe it out through pores in the leaves. This loss of water causes the plant to draw up more water so you just have to water the enclosure and the plants will be slowly and steadily emitting that water into the air where your animals want it. Also reptiles just like plants, they're great enrichment, and you get a tiny greenhouse in your room. Another thing that you can do to raise the base (not dependent on misting) humidity of the enclosure is to make a little waterfall. Even a slow trickle can raise the humidity 10-15% if your place is as dry as mine, and it creates microclimates so the animals can choose to be in the wet part of the tank or the dry part (plants lowkey do that too). Just be careful that bacteria, poop, etc isn't building up in the water supply, which is another thing live plants can help you with, and you need a good drainage system so the substrate doesn't get anaerobic.

Hope you’re feeling better soon, man. Also, yeah, you really called the entire state of Arizona out with that hahah. There are a surprising amount of reptile and amphibian keepers/breeders here - it makes absolutely no sense, but I definitely appreciate it!

Dakota, how do you go about sanitizing or cleaning your misting system to avoid bacteria build up?

Late af comment as usual. Yet again, thanks for this video! I live in Arizona, yes It's hell! As someone who is planning on owning a tegu while living in a harsh dry place thanks for your video. I have lost count of my research for maintaining high humidity. 😅 I am preparing myself for severe Carpal tunnel from misting. Who else owns reptiles in a harsh environment?

Ayo I’m hella late to this video but I’m dying to know how you setup your plastic wrap? Do you put it under the lid and have it come out? Or do you do it the opposite way and set it on the top and wrap it under the lid? I’m new to all this so hopefully I’m making sense lmfao
