I didn’t even know that hickory could be made into a snare drum. I thought it was just used to make sticks!! That’s why I love learning about drums!! You can learn all about them in a month and even after 100 years, they can still surprise you!!!! And I’m only 28, so there you go!!!!!!! You got yourself a subscriber!!!!! (I got that from Lord of the Rings, by the way. #numberonetrilly)

Sure can! Tama made an SLP snare out of hickory, and I know a handful of boutique shops have as well. Glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for the sub!

It seems like drum makers have used every known wood species to make a snare drum. Including recycling wood from a lake bottom, old barns, or the tree that fell on the house! Very nice comparison, I’ve never heard a hickory drum before. I think a solid steam bent shell would be a truer sound but harder to make than a ply shell. Thanks.

Absolutely - though where it comes from shouldn't stand over how it sounds. You'll get different characteristics for sure, and I felt steam bent solids would give viewers the truest tone of each species. I'm glad you think the same, and appreciate you continuing to follow along🙏🏼
