It's an awesome video and a great way to revisit the past. The problem with year end countdowns is that a song that takes off in Q1(jan,feb,march) has the entire year to rack up points for that specific year where as a much bigger hit released later in the year will spit its points with that year and the following year, missing out on a top 5 or even top 10 for either year. Then with worldwide, some songs have a 2 or even 3 year cycle of being a hit in different parts of the world at different times. Of note for aging, USA "Don't stop believin" is the true #1 of the 80s in 2020, yet the year it came out in 1981 it only peaked at #8 in the USA. "Physical" by Olivia Newton John is chart points wise the #1 song of the 80s, but u never hear that song at all any more.

Yeah, it's a little surprising how little reflection of rock there is in the 90s here, basically no trace of alternative rock. It makes sense--and I do remember a lot of the pop/r&b hits that show up, but it's weird that not until Nickelback in the next decade does anything grungy appear.

Fact is dudes have more dynamic taste in music. When a band that isn't romance or pop gets big it's because they got girls attention somehow, so guys and girls end up buying it, instead of just guys which is why the only masculine bands to make it write love songs. Those screaming girls always in the background is why Elvis and The Beatles conquered the world and became the standard for a while. Grunge and the like is dude music. Music for dirty losers, if you know what I mean. Symbolized by songs like Loser by Beck and Self Esteem by Offspring. Girls who wear trendy Nirvana shirts and only know Smells Like Teen Spirit doesn't count. Also, I think Nickelback got big because at the time song pretty damn good music was making the charts, and Nickelback was the normies way of returning popular music to the boring standard they're comfortable with.

Not in Australia, during the 60's, The Seekers had 10 no1's, sometimes knocking the Beatles and Stones off the top spot. "The carnival is over" still remains in the top 50 singles in the UK. I suspect the term "world" in the title of this video refers to America.

I don't care what you guys are going to say, but I love the music today and I am happy living in this generation. I am not saying the music from the past is bad, because it's not. I am trying to say that it's time to embrace what's new and give respect to the newer generation for doing something different.

You can clearly see the impact The Beatles & The Rolling stones have made on the evolution of music. Transitioning from 50s jazzy light rock to a more liberal heavier psychdelic rock. Man, I can’t even begin to explain if it wasn’t for The Beatles mania hitting the US, the widespread use of acid, summer of love 69' causing the US to drift away from the old fashioned conformative, controlled society lead during the 50s modern music just wouldnt exist the way it does today! The hairstles changed, the clothes changed, all very dramatically. Music artists, society in general evolved over a very short amount of time. BIG RESPECT!...

So I learned that the Beatles dominated the charts in the 60's, ABBA in the 70's, Madonna in the 80's and Mariah Carey early 90's (kinda).

Rosina Feitzlmayr so lets just forget everyone else and Idolized the Beatles. Forget the Stones who are still together and still rockin forget all of motown, Forget the Who, the Kinks, the Animal's, The yardbirds who formed the basis of led Zeppelin, Forget the Moody blues, who were the leaders of prog rock let's just all worship the Beatles,!
