I strongly believe that those vials on Link’s hip contain the energy that Link’s hand needs in order to perform the new abilities seen in the trailers. It is clear throughout the trailers that this game will not only have game mechanics from past games returning, but also scrapped concepts for BotW. Seeing that there was a scrapped concept regarding the Sheikah Slate requiring some kind of ancient energy in order to function, I think it is safe to assume that this set of vials located on Link’s hip will serve the same function as that scrapped concept for the Shiekah Slate.

Map theory: The map will be expanded in 4 ways: 1. Surface: East Hyrule Island, New Hyrule, deeper into the Gerudo Desert & Hebra until hitting Ocean. 4SA proves Hyrule is a Peninsula. 2. Bottom of the ocean & islands 3. Sky: multiple sky island, no enemies outside of trials The sky is meant to be untouched by monsters & sacred ground to Hylia. 4. Dimensions: Sacred Realm/Dark World, Twilight Realm & World of the Ocean King

Regarding the vials, I had a couple ideas as to how they might be used. Perhaps they contain the "Tears of the Kingdom" and are used to power Link's spells cast by his arm. They could either be new abilities he gets with each tear similar to how Samus gets new upgrades as she explores. We'll get eight abilities in total, but be given one from the start, hence why we see eight vials, but seven tears (possibly) in the carving. The second option is each spell costs a certain number of vials to use, and we'd have a cool down so they can recharge. With each tear we get, we'll add a new vial that allows us to use more spells or stronger ones. As usual, I could be wrong, but until we get more information that's what I think.
@ericknovamx2 жыл бұрын
I think they're scrolls unlocking new abilities for the hand

To add onto this, these tears might be those reverse-falling drops from the second trailer that most people seem to be linking (no pun intended) to the rising/phasing ability that is shown directly afterwards

I was thinking the same, of the vials holding "the tears of the kingdom" and it working in some way like the runes and champion spirits where each one grants a different power. We got 8 of those, counting both runes and champion powers, in BOTW, it might be something similar here.

I think a different approach might be helpful for figuring out what the device/vials on link's hip does. I think you got it mostly right in this video, so I'll add what I can here. I think we can use good game design principles to support/rationalize our theories. The device is positioned on links hip for visual feedback for the player, and is notably in the same position as the sheikah slate. Nintendo is very intentional about the design of everything which is why they haven't shown it until now. The device's design likely argues for how it will be used in game. There doesn't appear to be a "handle" that is designed onto the device. So far we also have not seen link properly "wield" the device either, which in my opinion means that he likely does not handle it directly (at least during gameplay) like the shiekah slate. The way the device is shaped itself looks a bit cumbersome for access to the individual vials as well. As it appears currently, I imagine it would be a bit of a nightmare to animate link reaching down and "using" or "popping" an individual vial. Perhaps most importantly, if you look closely at Link's frame-by-frame running, I don't believe there are 4 vials "missing" at all. It appears like the tops of the vial are pressed into the device's hilt. I think that when they refill, the cap pops outward as it fills with green energy. The vial colour is the same as the hand from the original trailer, as well as link's hand when it powers up. I believe they must be a "refill" mechanic, or indicate how much energy or use link has left for his "green" abilities. Also, given the footage that we've seen so far from the original trailer I think Link's hand will be his access to this form of magic/technology/energy, serving as a contact point just like the sheikah slate did for him in BOTW. In the original trailer his hand seems to be out of his control, glowing green, and absorbing the green-script energy in the air. I think link will refill energy to this device by using his hand in some capacity, rather than the device itself. I wonder if it will be restricted to "charge points" or not(maybe that green spiral we see coming from the ground when link is sky-surfing is a charge point). This would allow Nintendo to design the environment/dungeons/sky islands with step-wise puzzles for link to traverse and solve, or if the energy will function more like a true magic meter, and Link will have to recapture energy from defeated enemies (green-gauntlet finishers for energy?). What I do think we can say, is that the vials are not going to be tears. For a number of reasons. Firstly, there are 8. Secondly, as mentioned above, he already has all Eight, just some of them are unfilled. Thirdly, it is a huge intentional visual design choice to place this item on links hip. It would be incredibly pointless and cumbersome to measure the number of "tears" you have collected out of 7 on links hip. Imagine if in ocarina of time you stored all of the medallions you gathered visually on your links model. That would be nightmarishly messy and have no point (you know exactly how many of the major objectives you've completed in a game, as you are likely completing these major milestones on multi-hour timeframe, not minute-to-minute). Long story short, I think we can be relatively confident that the vials represent discrete measurements of link's ability use, with the ability to recharge on a minute-to-minute basis. But for which abilities is hard to say at this point. Also, random question: Do we know for sure that Link's hand, and the phantom hand seen in the original trailer are separate entities? Like do we know that the phantom hand didn't just latch itself onto link's arm once shit hit the fan in the original trailer and ganon was released?

Well: Past Hyrule, Lorule, Dark World, Spirit Realm, Sacred Realm, Twilight Realm, and Silent Realm! A trial within each to retrieve either a Tear that the Goddess Hylia shed for the hero, OR to save one of the Spirits of the Sages, who may even gift a new power? The only 2 powers we've seen so far are a Yellow power that reverses time (Yellow like Rauru, time as in Sacred Realm) And The green "worm" power (Green like Saria, worm to dig through EARTH) Edit: Added Silent realm, as i forgot what the 7th one was

And, If I remember correctly, in one trailer, Link uses a flamethrower, perhaps that's Darunia's power of Fire?
@Scott933122 жыл бұрын
The green vessels on Link's hips is simply a magic meter that will determine the extent of Link's ability, the more vessels he collects the more extensive his abilities become. With a few vessels, he'll only be able to reach sky islands up to a certain height, but he'll need more to access higher islands. In addition to this, there might be some type of lighting mechanic that will allow Link to explore in dark caverns, the more vessels he has, the longer he can explore with the aid of magic light.... or something along those lines. It might also determine how long you can use your master sword for. We've already seen the sword was destroyed in a previous trailer, but in the newly revealed logo, it's been embued with what looks like Twilight magic. It's entirely possible that your ability to use the sword is limited to how many vessels you have. There are a lot of applicable options that I can theorize on, and again, my ideas are all speculation at this point, but if I were to design the game with the elements that have been teased in the trailers, that's what I would have done. As for the "tears" of the kingdom, I think that might be a reference to the stone debris that has fallen from the sky islands. They appear to be a pivotal method of accessing the focus area of the game, it would make sense (to me) that items falling from a decaying ancient kingdom in the sky might be referred to as "tears" of that kingdom.

Honestly I absolutely love the tori gate portal theory. I can't believe no other KZbinr thought of it. Perhaps, the way in which we will travel between different sky islands is by going through the gates and then it opens up a magical bridge or something for us to travel to the next island or even reveal more sky islands in various other dimensions. Hi! thank you for the video. (french here, i hope my english will be ok). If the magic-vessel things are not for new abilities, then i think it is something we need to collect to repair the master sword. And i think the zonai-golem will be the one in charge of it (it keeps the sword and we gradually brings him magic/powers needed to fix the sword). It will be the "excuse" for the game to not let us have the master sword right from the start. Also, i think that the magic greenish hand is the Bunny-like god figure we see in the beginning of the trailer. If we look at the close-up of the feminine figure in the fresco, we can see very well her hand and the hand of the bunny-god. And its thumb is very long and clawed, just like the magic hand. I hope there will be some connection/explanation with the 7 Gerudo Heroes. This story is sooo mysterious.

Theory/Analysis I heard off of Twitter, pretty cool idea abt the tears. Here's basically what it said, since it was pretty long and...in French. So, those new green vials on links hip are basically batteries that can be used as fuel for his magic arm after using it's new abilities. The capsule holder is shaped like an eye, with 4 sections shaped like tears. Every once in a while, the eye would "cry" and generate magic tears, recharging the "batteries.". However, the capsule holder's generation of magic could be *limited.* This is where the swirls at the bottom of the screen during the new trailer come in: The green spirals in the new trailer look really similar to that of the first trailer's spirals. Those spirals could elude to a continuous flow of magic energy, where in the first trailer it was used in order to keep the arm alive, stopping Ganon for however long it needs. But, once the arm merged with Link, it no longer has that energy, and needs constant recharging. Back to these new spirals in the trailer, if your tear generator is low on magic, you could stop at one of many rechargers across Hyrule in order to replenish the magic. If you choose *not* to replenish the magic generator, then the arm would lose it's protection on Link, allowing Malice to slowly over take his body, causing him to succumb to a fate just like Astor did in Age of Calamity...pretty damn dark way to die. twitter.com/rin_kuto/status/1571576551531216897?s=46&t=9xaskr-sfkUmpx1ZsbFqYA Here's the tweet itself!

I love the video! all good points and perspectives, and i love the in depth analysis with the translations, But i spotted something whilst watching. For instance, i spot where u can see it is at 10:54 or so. If u look at the platform that holds the Tori gate leading to seemingly nothing, if u look at the floor on that platform, u can see what looks like ripples. More specifically, sand. It dosnt say much for a theory (or maybe it does, im no braniac) and sure enough they are portals, and i think the portal is actually the sandy floor beneath you. Which might surround link and transport him, or (what i think is true) link may sink into the magic portal sand as if it was quick sand, and come out some way in the other realm. I hope this gets some light! Again, good video! Edit: also notice how in the video the sand is idle, not moving. I say when the portal is activated, THAT is when the sand moves and therefore creates these wave looking patterns.

Watching an edit of all the trailers together, it sparkled an idea. I think Zelda won't actually fall into the abyss, and here's why: they're showing the Time Reversal magic too much, we have the trailers, the patents. So this is how I think it goes: Ganondorf wakes up and immediately attacks Link, getting rid of the Sword of Evil's Bane. Launching malice everywhere, the earth shakes and the floor crumbles, making Zelda fall, so Link runs and catch her, but falls, then the Hand catches Link, but he's hurt, so he can't hold Zelda much longer, to which she falls, but then thinks get funny: the Hand drops Link and starts reversing time around, bringing both up and "revealing" the first ability we will get.

Think their function is to power the arm which gains the abilities, and the more of them you gather the more magic you can store and use, similar to finding bottles in previous games maybe. And that green swirl we see almost directly beneath the glider might be a pool to refill them? But we only saw that one. Might make traversal a bit less convenient if that's the case and those aren't very common throughout the world. But maybe limiting your means of easy traversal at the beginning is the point? Almost like an Eventide Island-esque handicap since we all basically know most of the map already.

Just a thought, but one thing I've heard literally no mention of in regards to theories about repairing the master sword is the fact that one of the game's main mechanics is basically a time reversal rune that works on small-medium sized objects. My thoughts are that one of the quest lines that you can do in TotC will involve finding motes of golden energy like seen in the second most recent teaser. These motes can maybe be used to power up the time reversal magic, restoring small sections of the master sword's blade with each one collected.

Then again the tears could just be powers or a tear shaped stone to either bring back the master sword and upgrade it hence the title with the Twilight Princess looking master sword or they give link the powers of the sheika slate back but more enhanced hence we see the stasis that move the rock back in time

I think the vials are basically just a magic meter, if not a place to collect the "tears" like the twilight princess and skyward sword tear containers, but I think there's 8 and not 7, so I'm leaning magic meter. I also think the figure at the start is most likely how the Zonai interpret Hylia, since they're a more animalistic race and worship dragons/use animals to depict deities and historical figures, but I could also see it as their own deity, who's name and existence is lost to time (until now) and one Hylia (as Zelda) will have to work with, hence the circled hands. I also feel like it is the magic hand holding Ganon down, and that it's been doing so for so long that all that's left is the arm. I've also seen Zeltic posit the idea of Zelda becoming the goddess Hylia again, which would again lead to the figure being Hylia, which is why they're holding hands like the two snakes, signifying a cycle of Hylia becoming Zelda and Zelda returning to her form as Hylia. I'd love to finally see the actual goddess in person, esp if it means she's able to break Demise's curse and alter Hyrule's future into one without this shadow over it. I think it'd also be nice if it means we can put ganon to rest, if only for a while, and focus on new or other evils, like returning to Vati or something. but I had assumed for a while that the name must be something like "the end of ganon" since they said it'd be big story spoilers, so I could just be stuck on that idea lol (but, that also makes me feel like the tears ARE like the ones in TP/SS bc why else would "tears of the kingdom", esp without these new visuals, be too much of a spoiler? it HAS to be in relation to something we already know)

In the video where we see the destroyed master sword we see that his hand has some glowing part roughly the size of the vials. maybe link will need to "fuel" the arm with the energy in the vial through that part in order to charge up an ability.

Here is a theory: The being shown in the mural from the trailer does not have a long neck and a bird mask on their face; the being is actually small/short, and their REAL head/face is under the base of where long neck appears to start, and from the base of the long neck and up to the head with the bird mask IS ACTUALLY JUST A TALL HAT just like the Minish cap!! The Minish cap is tall/long with a bird head on the top; this could be just like that. The being in the trailer could be a short Minish wearing something like the Minish cap, just in a different/more realistic art style.

Honestly to help push the twilight Princess connection: the mystery figure we see kinda looks like a bird to me. These sky islands have golems and buildings on them that look much more advanced than what we have seen on the surface. Who else came from the sky and had advanced technology? The Oocca.

Just some observations and ideas of mine… 1. I don‘t think the green vials are used for the magic arm, because green-tunic Link doesn‘t have them. I rather believe, that they contain the magic energy which teleports Link into the sky. To descend he uses the glider, but for ascension he‘ll need something else. 2. Link’s right arm looks alien. It‘s not just some fancy leather straps. The black colour and the long and pointy nails don‘t look human. To me it looks as if he has lost his arm and got it replaced with another from a monster or demon by some magic surgery. And those straps are needed to hold it in place and control it. 3. Green-tunic Link might be a spectre of the ancient hero. The way he fuses through solid rock looks more like a ghost than like a living being. 4. There are 7 „tears“ on the stone carvings as well as 7 triangles on Link‘s shield, and there are 7 different races in Hyrule: Hylian, Sheikah, Gerudo, Rito, Goron, Zora, Korok. So maybe we need to gather seven new champions from each race or obtain their special abilities to defeat Ganondorf this time.

totally agree with the new way the runes will be used. i think the developers greatly miss understood how the players would abuse and break the runes abilities, creating some truly incredible moves, but really breaking how the game was meant to be played. can you imagine double bomb or stasis bumping or any other ability in the new game? i think BOTW was really a sandbox for the new gameplay, and TOTK will be a more refined game, maybe leading to some losses of freedom, but a much more grounded and controlled game experience.
@R.A.M_Games2 жыл бұрын
Tbh with the amount of views the game gets from pro players creating and experimenting with the tunes and physics in the game, I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to make those moves more accessible and also create new experimentation while balancing a open world/ streamlined experience.
@Ray-dl5mp2 жыл бұрын
I think freedom is one of if not the best parts of BOTW and why it’s a special game. Not necessarily breaking the game, but freedom to do things your own way. I doubt they will change that feel. The only real complaints of breath of the wild is breakable weapons (with no way to stop it) and lack of legit dungeons. They have had 5 years plus to consider those thoughts. Hopefully they address both of them and this is from someone that loves BOTW but prefers skyward sword more streamlined experience. But to me - the perfect sequel would be to take the best parts of BOTW but fix the general public’s complaints. Then almost any gamer can love it.

What I am hoping to see in Tears of the Kingdom is the return of the Successors of Hyrule’s Champions(Sidon, Yunobo, Teba and Riju). Instead being sidelined, they should be fighting along side Link as each have build confidence & strength to defend Hyrule from the very threat each shared. Maybe on a side quest perhaps since Death Mountain is infested with Ganondorf’s malice. Also, the sequel of Breath of the Wild needs to confirm whether if they remember their victories from the Age of Calamity timeline since each are pulled to this reality to save this version of the Champions, Link and Zelda. Just like Ocarina of Time, changing the past can create two or three diverted timelines. It is complicated but time travel has always been a part of the Legend of Zelda lore.
@piercehubbard40862 жыл бұрын
But at this point the champions only live on as spirits, and supposedly at the end of BOTW it’s assumed they’d finally moved to the afterlife and were given peace. Hyrule Warriors! Age of Calamity kinda messed up that story, but I don’t think that’s meant to be a part of the Zelda cannon, it was just a kill-em-all game that was fast paced and wasn’t done by the regular Zelda developers.

what i noticed about the figure zelda is holding hands with, are the nails. i said figure on purpose, more on that later. the hand holding down ganondorf also has the same fingernails. so does link. so i think that the figure we see first in the trailer isn't hylia. hylia is the goddess. also zelda is hylia's reincarnation an holds the triforce of wisdom. the hand holding down ganondorf has the green energy, representing courage. that explains why everything from the first teaser plays in the middle of the zonai ruins underground. the zonai worship farosh. the dragon of courage. and since that figure holding down ganondorf has long nails and so does the figure from the trailer, i've come to the conclusion that the hand is the ancient hero, keeping ganondorf in place. so: the figure holding hands with zelda isn't hylia. it's link.

We know they're using the same world and engine, but how much, for lack of a better term, 'space,' is there remaining on the game cartridge in order to add dungeons, enemies, etc? Do you think we might see a ton of new content?

I feel like the “tear jars” on Link’s belt have to do with dead / deceased people like previous incarnations of Link and/or sages. The tear jars are the same color as the luminous stones from BoTW. It is said that those stones glow because of the spirits of the dead. Also, when Link is seen wearing the green tunic, there are multiple Triforce symbols overlapping each other at the bottom of the green part. I think we’ll have to collect “energy” or even spirits (tears)of previous heroes who have failed in order to complete the game and beat the enemy (or enemies.) This could also be connected to Link’s new powers. We’ve only seen one so far - time reversal / time manipulation. This could be something we unlock after obtaining energy or the “spirit” of the Hero of Time, for example.

Honestly, I think that the green essence is the power of the triforce of courage which is magic for link while the blue essence is the power of the triforce of wisdom for Zelda. The malice is red which is made thanks to Ganon. The vessels are most likely magic bars that fuel the hand allowing it to do magic

EDIT: I made this comment before getting more than three minutes into the video, when I should have waited because lol my idea's almost the same as yours. Zeltik made a comment today that crystalized some theories for me. Basically, he pointed out that most of the sky islands seem roughly the same in design; they're all Shinto shrines. So here's my thinking: The primary success of Breath of the Wild was the massive open world and the overall theme of exploring new, distinctive geographical regions, and developers certainly know this. If they want to up their game, they need to either go back to a more linear storyline and succeed there or drastically expand the open world to allow for as much or more new exploration as BotW offered. And I think they do want to up their game. This game has been in development longer than Breath of the Wild was, with delays that indicate Nintendo wants to do this really well; even taking COVID into account, my current impression is that they're not phoning in a sequel in order to cash in on BotW's success... not to mention they're not really known for that. I think either option--going more linear or expanding the open world quite a bit--is possible, but the expanding the open world seems a bit more likely. In that case, the sky islands, which all currently appear VERY similar, couldn't be the only new avenue for that exploration. The cave system theory is strong, but the sky islands are really being pushed (they're the box art!!) and I think they're going to be one of the main foci of the game, so they must be serving a much greater purpose than we're seeing so far (Aren't you glad it took me several paragraphs to state the obvious?). Anyway, I think the giant inverted triangle stone structures are portals the gods use to visit various realms, giving us entirely new realms (and possibly eras) to explore.

Originally when I saw trailer 2 I thought the ornaments around the Tori and the beamos/golem were like lotus blossoms, but with the focus on dragons in the logo I have a new idea. What if Nintendo took inspiration from Game of Thrones and these are meant to mimic Dragon eggs. Also the tears being connected to the light spirits in TP, makes me think there is a possibility they return here. TP has only a few regions, but BOTW/TOTK both have so many more. We could see light spirits return as 7 spirits instead of 4. Two of the spirits in TP curl up in the same tear shape as the mural in TOTK.

The mirror looking object being the focus of a quest but otherwise serving no purpose is a little bit of an oxymoronic sentiment imo- the fact that they were the subject of a quest IS their purpose, almost no side quest is something we'd expect to matter outside of their quest. It's like saying the flower girl must be a zonai because she didn't serve a purpose outside of her shrine. I'm totally prepared to eat my words but I'd be surprised if it was more than an Easter egg, even if the twilight makes an appearance (fingers crossed HARD) If there is one unexplained or unexplored idea the devs left in BOTW that I think deserves more scrutiny (the zonai and heroines are certainly getting there share lol) it's that inaccessible mountain in the dessert. It's so unlike anything else and if there was planned DLC you gotta figure there was something going on with that. It's also near where the 8th statue is iirc, and would be a reasonable spot for some Ganondorf lore to be hiding as the king of thieves. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything in any trailer to give info about that, but the fact that they seem more desperate than ever to hide the plot and haven't shown that corner of the map even once makes me suspicious
