Personally I don’t like the idea of Onward being during the times of Brave, don’t forget their are two moons in the sky, meaning that this is NOT on earth. However, if you look carefully at the design of the Mountain *Raven’s Point* you’ll notice that the design of the mountain looks similar to the Axium from Walle, my theory is that one of the Axium ships crash landed on this alien planet, and the people that survived, turned into the strange fairytale creatures we see in this movie.

Ian and Barley are elves. This must be a reference to the dark elves in Thor 2. Also, their skin is blue, which is an obvious reference to Ronan, Yondu, and Nebula, who also have blue skin. Oh and the dragon at the end is made of stone, a can’t-miss nod to Mulan’s great stone dragon.

well, not only is he a great disney villain, but Onward is FULL of Greek/Roman/Norse mythology. Hades was the Greek god of the Underworld, and guarded hiis territory while not being allowed on Olympus because of a rivalry with all twelve Olympians. I'm looking for any Thanatos references, as Thanatos was the god of death, but the Hades reference works well enough due to the fact that they are trying to bring back their dead father, something that the gods try to stop regularly in the old myths, and one of Thanatos's main jobs was to make sure the dead _stay_ dead.

*It's a cast, not a jacket sleeve.* I really love Barley’s character design and character traits, it's what makes him so unique and give off the amazing older brother vibe. *Where in the Pixar universe?* It's a hard decision between ”after Brave, before Incredibles” and ”after Bugs Life, Before Monsters University/Inc”. Reasons why are it's very close to brave in terms of the feel for the movie, but it couldn't be before Incredible's movie because of one concept, ”smartphones”. Incredibles takes place in the Golden Age of Superheroes, ’70-’90s, so having smartphones to it wouldn't make sense. It's more likely that it is before the Monsters era, estimated year's 3100-5201. Because of the rise of a new evolution after Bugs Life, it would make sense that onward would take place here due to the rediscovery of technology, it would also make sense for the fact that technology evolves rather quickly. There history just might be a whole new history of the medieval era. Yes, it is very close to brave in monuments, but it's possible that those could have been around for millions of years. Then there's still the open idea of split timelines, but that hasn't been necessary so far. And hopefully, the upcoming movie ”Soul” will help connect ”Inside Out” to the main timeline rather than just saying, ”2017, Riley is weird”.

A big one I spotted was a nod to the Spider-man franchise, seeing as Tom Holland is the current Spider-Man.
