An all-new live-action musical comedy, “Disenchanted” is a sequel to Disney’s box office hit “Enchanted” featuring the original cast from the heart-warming story of the lovable maiden from the fairy tale world of Andalasia who finally found her Prince Charming in the kingdom of New York City. A Disney+ Original movie directed by Adam Shankman, produced by Barry Josephson, Barry Sonnenfeld, and Amy Adams, “Disenchanted” begins streaming November 18, 2022, only on Disney+. It has been more than 10 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. I don’t think I’ll ever stop talking about how Amy’s switch from good to evil was seamless and sheer perfection 🤌🏻. Her transformation definition had Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde inspiration, with the Bell Toll serving almost like a trigger to her switch.

The opening dance scene when the whole town is dining there’s a lot of “disneybounding” happening in the background like one girl dressed like Esmeralda, one dressed like Isabella and another kinda dressed like Alice. Also in the market when Morgan is having her song moment a vendors says “sugared dates and figs! Sugared dates and pistachios!” Hard reference to Aladdin.

Don't forget at the end when Malvina breaks the wand, it's a near shot-for-shot reference to Anastasia breaking Rasputin's relic. Right down to the way she digs her foot down and twists. I know it was originally not owned by Disney but since the property is now, I guess they threw in a little nod.

Other details: - Giselle's baby is called Sofia, a possible reference to Disney's little princess from Sofia the first. - When Giselle starts to wish things she is by the well. Possibly a joke with "wishing well". - In the movie Sisters, Maya Rudolph also plays an antagonist, with a very similar personality to Malvina's.

This isn’t an easter egg but I just loved the scenes with the Magic Scroll. His design, his animations, his personality, even his voice, which by the way was provided by Alan Tudyk. Basically everything about him made him one of my favorite characters in the movie next to Pip.

Say what you want about the sequel not being better than the first or the plot of angsty teen having issues with naive mom figure is overdone but you have to admit this movie is not by any means boring and never once was there a dull moment in it. I call that a success.

Morgan’s plain clothes resembled Aurora and Cinderella’s plain clothes and Tyson was dressed like both Prince Philip and Charming in the village and festival scenes. Morgan’s dress transformation was almost exactly like Cinderella’s, a reference to how Disney used to reuse reference frames across films. Also, the scroll resembles the robot from Treasure Island

this was detailed for some Disney movies, but I think that there are more movies referenced and made my own (less well pictured) list here. Esp- Cinderella 3 - Twist in time. And "Brave" too. And why is nobody talking about that it's literally about Disney live action remakes. It's the blue Cinderella dress from the 2015 movie. Actually, Cinderella's 1950 dress is silver-white (even the franchise dress is taken from Cinderella 2 and this is blue!!!). The fairy godmothers are actually not from 1959, they look rather like their counterparts in "Maleficent". This movie is so sad, thinking that it's about classic animation dying and Disney transforming everything into live action remakes...

The walls in Morgan’s room is also in honors of one of the 9 old men’s art work. Also Giselle’s Memory Tree is a nod towards Pocahontas’s grandmother willows tree & is used how the Native American’s folklores would have used it. Also Broom Stick lyric in Love Power is a nod to Idina’s breakout role, Elphaba in Wicked the Musical. Also Morgan’s references with Ariel Belle & Cinderella displays how Morgan is or feels separate from Giselle & her world in the beginning whilst Giselle is inspired by Aurora & Show White. The parallels between the two through two different types of Princesses. The I want more vs I want true love princess.

I tought Giselle's ball gown in this movie was kinda like an evil version of the one she has worn in the ball from Enchanted. Also, Giselle pushing Morgan into the wishing well reminded me of Queen Narissa pushing Giselle in the first movie. And yes, "Love Power" scene has a lot of "Into the Unknown" vibes, but i also thought it had "Show Yourself" vibes since Morgan was seeing all her family memories just like Elsa was seeing hers in Ahtohallan.

We liked this movie well enough, just not as much as rhe original. As an adoptive family, we appreciated the family themes. My question, why was not the original Morgan used in this movie? She's of the right age range (or at least could act it) and clearly open to acting.

I'm not sure. Going by Rachel Covey's IMDB page it doesn't seem like she continued with her acting career very much after Enchanted. Which is understandable as well given how tough acting and Hollywood can be.
