Here's my take. As a "Egg" camper enthusiast, and spending much time in many of these models and with the owners, I would rate (Overall) the "Volume" Fiberglass trailers as follows. 1.Bigfoot 2.Oliver 3.Armadillo 4.Escape 5.Nest 6.Snoozy (NLO) 7.Casita 8.Scamp (TBD-NuCamp Barefoot, Hymer-NLO) Best Overall Build Quality-Bigfoot (Many consider Oliver, I would disagree, Frame Down-Oliver/Frame Up-Bigfoot) Worst Build Quality-Scamp (Still excellent compared to nearly every traditional built RV) Best Value - Escape (hands down for US buyers due to Canadian Exchange Rate/Currently 0.75) Best Resale Value in Relation to Purchase Price-Scamp Worst Resale Value in Relation to Purchase Price-Bigfoot Best Factory Support-Oliver Worst Factory Support-Scamp Best Sales Staff/Experience -Oliver/Escape (Tied) Worst Sales Staff/Experience-Bigfoot (Typically Dealer Offered) Most Willing to Accommodate Customization-Armadillo/Escape (Tied) Least Willing to Accommodate Customization-Scamp/Casita (Tied) Best Aesthetic/Appeal (Exterior)-Scamp (13') Best Aesthetic/Appeal (Interior)-Oliver Best Floorplans-Escape Worst Floorplans-Snoozy Best 5th Wheel Option-Escape Most Unique-Armadillo Best Fiberglass Construction/Gelcoat-Snoozy Best Lighting Package-Nest Best Running Gear-Oliver Best Frame-Oliver Best Four Season/Insulation-Bigfoot Gets Most Smiles at Campground-Scamp/Armadillo (Tied) Least Smiles at Campground/Blends in-Bigfoot My Favorite "Egg" -UHaul CT-13 (NLO) Best recommendation for someone buying their first "Egg" camper- Overall-Escape 17B, (If you reside within 200-500 miles of either the Casita/Scamp factory, go with one of those/Airstream *Nest dealer support is also impressive for new RV buyers). Most Important-GET Camping.....

2005 Casita owner here with over 40,000 miles. Love all the fiberglass trailers and have visited Casita, Escape and Oliver, but you basically ranked by size and price. Likewise, with bigger trailers you need bigger tow vehicle, reduced fuel economy and reduced access. Condensation can be addressed by furnace and ventilation.
@DoriMena
@DoriMena 4 жыл бұрын
We also have a 2005 Casita with many miles. We don’t have a furnace and condensation has been a major issue, even with plenty of ventilation. Not just on cold days, but rainy days too. We didn’t rank by size and price as the Nest is one of the more expensive ones. Also, Escape has a 17’ and Mena ranked it first, Dori ranked it second. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.

The newer Casitas don't have the rivet issues like the older ones, they've made changes in that area. It's funny how often times things that some find annoying on certain trailers are often praised by others, different strokes...... No question the Oliver trailers are second to none, we aspire to add an Elite II in the coming years. If Escape made their cabinets and furniture out of fiberglass like Oliver I would say that they would be hard to beat. Screwed together interiors don't hold up over rough roads/miles, stick and staple trailers have proven that for decades.

We couldn't have chosen a better starter camper. Although it is no-frills, it was the right price, and the right size for our first two years as nomads. As we said in the video, all are awesome campers for the right price. Since we are almost 100% full time, we are outgrowing it pretty quickly. Thanks for watching and for your comments!

Super helpful. You brought out some points that were important to me. I'm drawn to the Escape 5th wheel and the scamp 5th wheel because of ease of highway towing, handling in lane switching and braking control. but the thought of the Northern lite appeals to me as well because of quality and the fact that i wouldn't actually have to tow anything. but like you guys, it would mean buying a more expensive truck.

I’m torn between those two as well. I think the Escape 5.0 TA is also just so cool looking on the outside. No bumper pull sway worries and what ease of parking. My practical side likes the Escape 21 though...but if had had 80 large to spend, it’d be the Oliver over an Airstream any day. I have a 2009 Shasta retro that I love but the making up the bed dance is getting tired. Lol Thanks for the review, cheers Dave
@DoriMena

Thanks for watching Dave. We took the plunge and purchased the Escape 5.0 TA. The layout is incredibly functional and we love all the extra living space and storage. There is also the separate bed that is amazing. It's a mezzanine in a trailer. We are slowly getting used to hitting and manoeuvring though. We have to take wider turns than with the Casita. Also, no more easy u-turns...lol Pros and cons for both. The Casita was great for the amount of traveling and types of sites we visited when we first started. Now we are more interested in day-to-day comfort.

I’m a Nest owner and am heartbroken not just with the ridiculous number of problems I’ve had with it (flooding through that beautiful front window, drawers/doors/refrigerator falling off all the time) but most of all with Airstream’s lack of a response to even a single issue. It’s so sad bc the design is amazing and it tows like a dream.

We purchased a new Casita Independence Deluxe in 2018 because we did not know if we would like camping and we could sell the Casita easily for just about what we paid for it. We live in VA and Rice TX was not to bad of a drive to pick up. We had another company add a shock absorber kit and after 10,000 miles we have broken only two rivets. I wish it was a little bigger but for a starter RV the Casita is a great all around value especially for a first RV.

Hi Dori & Mena! Another great video. I really appreciate the topic of this video, particularly your willingness to share your opinions and rankings. Our top three egg campers would be: 3. Owner of a 2019 17’Casita Spirit Deluxe. Regarding condensation, I do have a furnace and A/C to keep out humidity so I’ve have zero problems. Regarding winter camping, I’ve been in snow and 20 degrees F with no freeze ups of fresh, black, or gray water tanks. The trick is to use a winter skirt which I made custom that snaps onto the trailer with self-adhesive snaps. My tank areas all stayed well above freezing in 20 degrees. Also used clear bubble wrap on the back window over the bed to keep out drafts. I’m sure I could camp in my Casita down to zero degrees with no issues but again, get a furnace. Like why wouldn’t you buy this if you want to camp in all four seasons???????

You chose your camper well. It was our first and we weren't sure of our needs when we bought ours. It was originally in Florida and didn't have a furnace. We decided that a non-electric heating source is now an essential. Great job on keeping your trailer insulated and toasty!

Look into the Escape, keep in mind they are priced in Canadian so you get 30% discount because of the exchange rate. If this is your first RV, maybe try to find a used one in fiberglass. They don’t change much from year to year and they keep the value.

Great video Guys! If I could afford an Oliver Elite II that would be my No.1 choice, but practically I would have to choose the Escape 17B F2 which has a dedicated rear bed and front dinette. The pop top seems like a good idea - but the issue is wind. They are so noisy in the wind. I was looking seriously at the Nest, but reading the forums show some pretty significant issues. Gel coating is one and several owners have shown deep cracks. It appears their first swing into fiberglass (or the company they use to do their work) has not been without issues. They are having leak issues as well with the wrap around window in front. Screws falling out and owners saying the cabinets are not attached properly. It is now off my list. Looking at Oliver now. I guess I should look at Escape too!

It seems like many of your complaints about the Casita could have been addressed with a different model like the Spirit Deluxe. I have to agree that Casitas need better insulation. The blinds, latches and carpeting on the walls are minor issues. Thank you for your review of these trailers.

Hi guys , ive had my liberty deluxe since 2010. My biggest disappointment is the lack of insulation, foam carpeting and single shell make the casita a fair weather camper compared to oliver or escape. Agree a duel battery space is needed. 3rd is the extreme weight and wimpy axle and 10 " brakes, after a brake fire we swapped out the axle 5000 lb leaf springs shocks and bigger bearings and 12" brakes. Weve done over 22 comfort mods on our casita even with its short coming we enjoy camping in our casita. Great vid

I am so thankful that I found your page. I am in the market for a camper and this video was so informative. I was thinking about going with the Casita, but after seeing this, I am definitely going with Escape 5th wheel! I never heard of them until this video. After viewing them, side by side with others, it would not be much more length to pull and it has everything that I need for me and my Dachshunds. Thank you so much!

Would love to see one of these fiberglass trailers make one where the back end of the trailer folds down to make a patio and also opens up to bring the outdoors indoors. The problem with that is then it wouldn't be a two piece capsule which would have the potential of leaking.

He also mentioned and pointed out the weeping holes that address that very issue and allows the water to channel and drain off to the outside of the trailer. I like that with the Olivers, when owners have an issue and bring it to their attention, they will take a look and address it. ie, one example: the TV placement used to the in the back corner of one of the twin beds. People were mentioning that they were hitting their heads on it when in bed. They moved it to the center over the nightstand, out of the way. People started asking for a lithium batteries option, which they now have. Customer service/response is Huge for me! Quality build as well, and a company that will stand behind their product After the sale. Oliver seems to win that hands down.

Sounds like a great plan and many have done the same! Now everyone seems to be looking for trailers because of the pandemic. That doesn’t mean you won’t find one, you may just need a bit of patience. We started out with a Casita. It’s a great low cost option if you can find an older one and work on it yourself. Our suggestion is to search for one everywhere: Facebook groups, Facebook marketplace, casita forum classifieds. It’s best to start in those places. That way you know you’re dealing with people that(in general) really love and baby their trailers. Good luck with your search!

Very nice information and personal preferences. One real gotcha to consider is many (and getting worse) RV parks are refusing trailers that are more than 10 years old, esp California and Nevada, to spend even 25,000 on a trailer they will not let in in two or three years. But good details, did you look at Scamp?

10yr old thing is never gonna be an issue. Maybe if your staying in campground for mths. Scamp has been around forever like casita but casita head to head will always win alone on a full body fiberglass body. Scamp has a wood sub floor under it to the ground.

I wish RV manufacturers followed the restaurant menu concept: offering features "a la carte"; and I want features to be modular. For example, I want a high-quality Oliver shell with interior features that are quickly removable. I will not use my AC unit during Winter camping; I want to quickly remove it and leave it in my garage. On a BBQ Competition in Texas, I do not need my on-board microwave; leave it home. When I plan to camp near public restrooms and showers, I do not need my on-board bathroom; I want to reclaim that space for other uses. My point is: I want modularity. The people who make the "Adaptiv System" for "Happier Camper" (LA, California; and Amherstburg, Canada) are on the right track; other manufacturers need to expand on that concept. Comments? ~ Steve, Utah, USA

I know the Scamp is lower quality than all that you reviewed. The scamp has a wood bottom, which puts it below the Casita. The reason I like the Scamp 5th wheel is that you can pick them up for cheap. I just need it for work travel. Later on I may get an escape . As far as 4 season goes I think you cannot beat the Bigfoot design as far as how they achieve 4 seasons, then it would be the Oliver which has a different approach to achieving 4season. Really like the looks of the escape, of coarse it is not a 4 season, which I do not have to have. The issue I have with the escape is that I live in Texas. Many in the Escape groups say that even on a 90 degree day the 11000btu ac just will not keep up, & that it is so noisy you can’t sleep. Not sure if they are not insulated well enough, or the AC needs to be bigger. Also can you tell me how the casita did on a very hot day as far as cooling?? Not going to pay for an Oliver, which is a reverse engineered Casita that is better in every way. Really like them though. I have never had an RV. Just wondering if you can stay cool on a 100 degree day?
