Liu Xuans performance in Sydney is the stuff of legend because it was the Olympic beam final, she was the last to go, and she knew it was the last performance of her career. Her flip flip layout was amazing aswell as all of her jumps and leaps

Although I sometimes despise the Code of Points nowadays, I understand why it needed to happen. Every time I see the 1997 World Championships Balance Beam Event Final, I cringe because I still cannot believe Kui Yuanyuan got THIRD.

To be fair, it has gotten better now that the judges are actually applying the artistic deductions on floor and beam. Gymnasts like Yang Bo and Kui would excel and receive no artistic/composition deductions and virtually no pause deductions, whereas others like Fan and Sui would get hammered (like Shang Chungsong did in 2016 even with no wobbles).

She wasn't robbed. Gina's deductions were less so she won. Kui was sloppy and had multiple breaks. I am a huge fan of Chinese gymnasts but people complain about Gina winning but she did her job even if it was boring.

I really love the first mount. It takes the same amount of time as just jumping or sitting on the beam like Simone Biles and so many others do, but it is 10x more beautiful and artistic

Her eponymous skill is awesome. The best? Not even close, she was far too inconsistent- especially with her dismount. She had the POTENTIAL to be the very best but never delivered.

Even though it isn’t the most difficult routine, I’ve always loved lu li’s routine in the 1992 event finals. The extension on every single element and perfect form throughout is unmatched by almost any other gymnast

Her front with a half, back pike and her back tuck at the end of her acro series were both landed with low chest- that was one area she frequently got hit for. Otherwise, it was smooth as silk.

Beautiful compilation - so many good and sad memories. I just want to reiterate: Kui Yuanyuan had the best full twisting layout salto on beam - she took her time doing it. Oh and Yang Bo. THe real Queen of Beam. By the way I also love the routine by Qiao Ya (1994) who did a split jump to front tuck. She also had lovely low beam work.

The fact that Li Li isn’t on here is a terrible oversight! Liu Xang and Suī Lù could have been left off in favor of her. Her 91 beam routine was amazing!

I do love that routine as well, and it was so hard to choose only 6! I put sui lu in because shes the best beam worker China has had in more recent years. Even though Liu xuan was included becuase that routine was her last elite routine and she performed it perfectly.
