Don't be so mean about the Temple. If you are playing a religious civ it is a great weapon. It only costs 30 shields so you can build it quickly even in the early game. It expands border in 5 turns (4 really because you get the 2 culture the turn you build it). That quick border expansion can be really useful, for example you can plant a city and count on the Big square very fast so you can often place one city in a good spot and pick up two bonus squares far apart very quickly, very useful early game for grabbing more territory with your settlers If you are in a war, and have a govt like republic and capture a city with no resistors ( which is more likely if you have a strong culture score), disband an old damaged unit to get some shields, buy the temple straight away and expand the borders super fast, this can help you gain territory very quickly and gain command of any existing roads whilst depriving the enemy of those roads. You also are more likely to flip opponents and almost immune to being flipped. Also all buildings double cultural output once they are 1,000 years old so a temple will give 4 culture a turn, in the early game a turn is 50 years, so only 20 turns and you are pumping out culture which can keep the borders expanding on the edges. And of course you get one happy face, but that's just a little bonus. I like temples in those circumstances, (Egyptians or Japanese for example) otherwise I agree they are just annoying. too expensive for the benefit and I prefer the library.

Great stuff! Does this apply to quick civ? And if a brief answer is possible how much of your videos (that don’t specifically talk about QC) are relevant in the mod?
@suedeciviii71423 жыл бұрын
Are you interested in single player or in multiplayer? Hasn't been much MP QC lately so I'll assume you're talking about single player, with accel production turned on. 6) Harbor is hard coded at +1 food. Food yields are supposed to be doubled in QC, so the makers of the scenario had to give sea tiles a base food of 3 instead of 2. So that with harbor, it gives 4 food. QC also has no despotism penalty, so it's easier to come by surplus food, just irrigate. All that is to say, the food bonus of harbors isn't as important, and you can use coastal tiles without a harbor and without running out of food in QC. 5)Still important 4) Still important if you plant cities loose, although the dominant strategy in QC is to plant cities super tight, stay in despotism, and slave everything. So all the corrupt cities will be slave cities. Still, this costs 20 shields so you can slave it for one citizen. 3)Not important if you're doing the slaving strat, but if you're in republic these are still great. 2)Fantastic. Easy to slave too. 1)Fantastic if you have a lot of lux. If you have 6 lux and a market you can slave a cavalry every 2 turns indefinitely. This is a little pricier though. Chop one forest and you can slave for one pop. Other buildings: Temple is easy to slave, so if you want the border, consider it instead of library in some cases. Granaries are super easy to slave and you should get one in all your core cities to speed up your expansion phase.

@suedeciviii71423 жыл бұрын
I've mentioned it in a few different videos but I don't think I'd do a video on anti-air alone. TLDR, "anti-air" only guards the tile where the unit is stationed. If it triggers, it's an isntant kill on the bomber. Interception guards a larger range (half of the planes operational range in each direction) but the bomber can shoot down the interceptor. Anti-air and interceptors stack. If you have a bunch in one city they're more likely to trigger/intercept.

I am lower rank player then Suede, BUT :) I'd definitely place importance of the University waaay behind Harbors. The reason is, I''ve managed to win on Emperor (many times) Space Race or Diplomatic victory without building Universities (except in Capital), and if you choose higher difficulty then Emperor, there's even less reason trying to tech race with them, because you'll need to trade and/or steal tech if you want to keep the pace. So, my list would be something like: 1) Marketplace 2) Harbor 3) Library 4) Aqueduct (depends on rate of city grow, it can be more prioritized in the list) 5) Courthouse (depends on corruption, it can be more prioritized in the list) 6) Bank 7) Hospital (if city have enough food) ------------- The rest of the buildings I build only according the situation: - Barracks (mostly in capitol and near cities (that can build units fast), I don't build barracks at far cities, until I really need it for healing, and upgrading units (and then I sell them) - Granary (usually only in capital (I sell it later), or in any city I want to grow fast so I can build settlers fast... I sell it later... - University (usually only in capital, or if some other city have some science great wonder (which is very rare) Bellow is a list of building I almost never ever build, only in the very rare cases where I fight with enemy borders in order to try and win some luxury or resource tile - Temple - Colosseum - Cathedral Another great video Suede, btw :) Thanks!

The theme was "buildings that go in every city" and so harbor and aqueduct have lower ratings since many cities can't build them. It's also far down the priority list if a city has access to few water tiles, or if most of their water tiles are usable by another city.

But that means only ever staying level on tech with the AI which isn’t ideal, for conquest victories that means you are facing the same level of units, for cultural victory you are risking losing wonders to the AI, and for space race victory well, that just becomes a mad rush at the end.
@HansLemurson Жыл бұрын
@@deeznoots6241 You don't need tech superiority for conquest, parity is enough. Quantity has a quality of its own. At high difficulty levels, Warfare becomes the only path to survival, since it's the vector of the greatest advantage to the human player. The AI can passively accumulate Wonders and Culture without problem, and the production bonuses it gets directly enhance these things. This is a vector where a un-boosted human cannot hope to compete. But in the spatial strategy of warfare and prioritizing force across multiple fronts? In carefully managing diplomacy to only fight one enemy at a time? This is where humans win. High level play is all about exploiting Trade, Treaties, and Tactics.

Great video, happy to see the channel growth. We have beef on governments, however..... Every time I switch to republic I am enraged because my troop limit (at that time, and with my populations) is literally like 27. On despotism for example, its like 44 at that stage. Commerce means nothing when you're steamrolled for having a unit for each of your 12 cities and a few workers 🤣 Communism is the way. Only in Civ though ;) (really though I've been trying out feudalism lately as a stepping stone to republic or communism, and seeing as the AI are lowkey aggressive starting at difficulty 3 and especially 4, I've found myself needing a high troop limit. I prefer standard maps or smaller, so it's more likely I'm surrounded of sorts and need more men to cover multiple flanks.... idk)

@@suedeciviii7142 Thanks for the reply! As I said before, I'm glad to see the pretty wild (4x) growth of your channel considering the game is 20 years old! I was here at 1k subs a few months ago lol nice. I just might send a save file actually.... but the few attempts at switching to republic have been so rough - even after learning a majority of your simple to intermediate tips - that I've done everything I can to just prop up that type and rush for communism (mainly so I can support all the calvary I want hehe) Another point to this: I am continually wanting to play smaller and smaller maps. Playing since like 07, it got old having these massive maps to try and fill, and the amount of save files ditched due to just 20 minute turns while I choose production in 50+ cities got super old. So old in fact, that I've been learning how to lengthen tech progression by making scenarios, so I can enjoy the simpler first and second ages more! Having musketmen before I really have a good standing army I'd be comfortable attacking with just got frustrating since I never used the older units I wasted time making before that. ^I say that last paragraph to preface: If I make a game with tweaked scenario files, will that not alter what buildings I have and don't have access to by the time I reach republic? As in, my cities will have had alot of turns of life on them, but not had some buildings that would have made them ___ population by ___ turns in game - therefore making the complaints about republic possibly linked to city size/growth? -I may have to play a normal game to send you an example! I normally find myself at the end of the ancient era/early second era with most buildings (courthouse/library/harbor etc) and not much to do except wonders/units, which is when I'm most likely to do a government switch (so it's not interrupting anything). So, IMO, I have most of the things built that should make republic successful. However, typically with the science slider at 50-60% and the happiness slider at 0%, I'm losing money going into republic that I wasn't losing even in despotism.... typically I have about 50% markets built, and I'm forced to sprint for banking to bail my economy out of debt. Sorry for the long reply, but thanks for listening!

Could my mistake be setting the governors to manage citizen moods? A pal told me that probably 10 years ago and the setting has just carried over ever since..... If I haven't missed it completely, could you do a short explaining the happiness slider and its relation to progression in the game? I always believed it to be a situational use thing.
