I live in a Senior citizen complex. I'm tired of being harassed about signing and filling out a 15 page "Renewal & Recertification (complex tax credit write off. The complex starts 3 months prior to your end of the lease period, thus forcing me into a contract for another year. The Government needs to stop sleeping with Real-estate Tycoons that pray on States and small Counties that so called Community Housing for Seniors & Low Income People. We have at least in Albany NY more then Plenty of property that the Government (HUD) can throw Tax Payers money away on so called and Nothing about it is Affordable. In Albany I see to much Housing developments even a development that's bigger than the Senior citizen complex at Livingston Junior High School that I attended 9th grade in. RENT goes up Every year. I moved here in 2023 my rent was $850. In June 2025 makes it 2yrs my rent is $1115 a $265 increase $132 a year. If you don't have a Section 8 voucher these Seniors are experiencing exactly what I am talking about. Tax credit for a Senior complex that is UNNECESSARY. This is for the TAXPAYERS of Albany NY.

If Right to Counsel was limited to specific eviction cases, (like retaliatory evictions) I'd be in favor of it - but the vast majority of evictions are from non-payment of rent. Drawing out non-payment of rent cases for months and months is an unfair burden on a landlord, especially small time landlords.

Well first of all rents that rise above the 30% of income rule must be illegal. Second eviction for nonpayment creates homelessness, and preventing it keeps renters housed and landlords paid. Third landlords can have plenty of money from the profits they are making and all the rent increases they do are unregulated because the government wants to jack up the cost of housing for its own gain. So eviction for nonpayment should be a last resort not a first and should not be an automatic eviction.

If tenants are not happy, why are they staying? Why not move or buy a house?
@johnniebeavers4003 Жыл бұрын
That is what I say if they are not happy why are they staying. Landlords have to raise rent when they raise property taxes and when they raise home insurance. Landlords have to give a 60 day notice but when your bills are raised on the rentals nobody gives landlords a notice

The above commenters are two of the biggest numbskulls on KZbin. I’ll say the obvious: People don’t have the money to move. There’s a shortage of affordable housing of all sorts. Landlords have most of the power in the market. People can’t just move.

Failure to pay should not be a cause for eviction straight up. Housing assistance must be pursued first, and that has to be mandatory for landlords to participate in it.
