There is a lot of genres, but I will talk about the ones I know the most of or know a bit about. And what I'm saying is based in United States and not other parts of the world. Right now is probably house, any sub genre of house (big room house, future house, bass house) and has been very popular for many years now. House is really mainstream, played on top 40 pop radio stations that plays artists like Ariana Grande, Beyonce, etc., although not all sub genres of house) and also big in the electronic music fan base. I haven't listened to pop radio stations myself in over a decade but when my friends listen to those stations in their cars, the edm type music I hear is house or house influenced. Producers and DJs of this genre are featured a lot at main stages at mixed edm genre music festivals like Kinetic Field at EDC. Bass/head banging music is not mainstream but VERY huge in the electronic music fan base. A lot of producers and DJs of this genre are usually featured on the main stages of mixed edm genre music festivals. People like to head bang. Techno, I feel like has maintained mid popularity with the edm community since its peak in 80s and 90s. Again, not a mainstream pop genre. Regarding the last two I will talk about, Hardcore and Trance, usually the faster the BPM the least popular the genre in the edm community now and obviously these are not mainstream. For sure something Hardcore like Happy Hardcore is not that big compared to the other genres. Trance is my niche, I listen to almost nothing but Trance. This is one of the least talked about genres in edm communities AS OF NOW and you will literally not find anyone playing real trance on main stages. For those saying people like Armin Van Buuren and Above & Beyond are very popular and featured on main stages… uhh they haven't produced trance for many years and what they produce now is more big room with some trance influences (Trance 2.0, which is not trance especially to die hard trance fans). “Blah Blah Blah” by Armin IS NOT TRANCE, and you will get your ass laughed off if you say that to anyone that knows about trance. You will never find real trance, subgenres of trance like uplifting, tech trance or psytrance or producers that make trance music (even the big trance producers like Bryan Kearney or John O'Callaghan) on edm music festival main stages, it's all Trance 2.0 from producers or djs that made or played trance music in the past but no longer anymore.
