Saitama Prefecture, adjacent to Tokyo, is easily accessible from central Tokyo, but the Chichibu area to the west offers steep valleys, magnificent mountain scenery, and diverse waterside landscapes.
Please enjoy the "magnificent autumn leaves" of Saitama Prefecture to the fullest!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
■Nakatsu-kyo ( Late October - Mid November )
Nakatsu-kyo Valley is located in the Oku-Chichichibu area of Saitama Prefecture and is known as one of the best places to see the autumn leaves and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best Autumn Leaves. It is located upstream of the Nakatsu River, one of the headwaters of the Arakawa River, and has an intricate V-shaped valley that extends for about 10 km.
■Mt. Ryokami-san ( Late October - Mid November )
Ryokami-san, one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan, can be seen on the Forest Road Kanayama Shiga-Saka Line, which runs from the depths of the Nakatsukyo to Gunma Prefecture. Ryokami-san is located at the northern end of the Chichibu Mountains at an altitude of 1,723m.
■Nagatoro ( Early to late November )
Nagatoro is a 6-km-long gorge located in the Chichibu region of Saitama Prefecture, and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best places to view autumn leaves. Nagatoro has a huge rock formation called " Iwadatami", which is designated as a "scenic beauty" and a "natural monument" by the government. On the other side of the river, there is a cliff called "Chichibu Red Cliff".
■Jomine Park ( Early to late November )
Jomine Park is located on a hill about 500 meters above sea level in the northwestern part of Saitama Prefecture, and is known as a famous place for winter cherry blossoms that bloom in late autumn and early winter. The winter cherry blossoms in Jomine Park have small, double-petaled flowers in light red, and contrast beautifully with the surrounding trees in autumn.
■Ranzan Valley ( Mid-November to early December )
The Ranzan Valley is located in the center of Saitama Prefecture, and its name comes from the fact that the scenery is similar to that of Arashiyama in Kyoto. The Tsuki River, which originates in the Chichibu Mountains, is narrowed by rocky terrain, creating a magnificent landscape of rocky pavement and clear streams of the Tsuki River.
There is a promenade along the Tsuki River, where you can enjoy a stroll in autumn, and playing in the river and barbecue are also popular.
■Lake Kamakita ( Mid-November to early December )
Lake Kamakita, an artificial lake completed in 1935 as an agricultural reservoir, was one of the public works projects undertaken as a countermeasure to the Great Depression of 1929. It is also known as "Maiden Lake" and is famous for its cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.
■Lake Sayama ( Mid-November to early December )
Lake Sayama is an artificial lake located adjacent to the northwestern part of Lake Tama. Mt. Fuji can be seen from the northeastern shore on clear days.
