I think the point is more that it’s fascinating that we can usually tell when something actually is naturally human. Which is why we can tell when the differences between real photos and 3D renderings. And we can tell when facial expressions are natural and not some actor over exaggerating 3D facial scan modeling.

For me, it's always the softness/harshness of light, or lack of sharpness/appropriate reflection from skin for example. Having eyes that are overly reflective is unrealistic. Soft shadows where there should be clean distinct shadows underneath objects, and the opposite when there is a lack of penumbra. Of course, without detailed texture, it's easy to undermine any work in the aforementioned points. If you are focusing on something and there is a bokeh effect on the background, you better make damn sure that what you are focusing on is not uncanny.

Sad thing is, I haven't found any games with absolutely mind-boggling life-like graphics that has gameplay that keeps me around for years. All the games that look insanely good aren't fun to play, they're just a piece of artwork that doesn't retain your attention. All the games that have insanely fun and addicting gameplay that lasts me years of my life, ends up having pretty good/ok graphics, but I never sit there and think "Wow, this game looks incredibly realistic" "Look at how insanely beautiful this world is".

Totally agreed. Being pretty doesn't make a game fun. With certain types of games, especially really story-driven ones, it can help immerse you in that world, and make those characters more believable, but none of that will really matter if it's a chore to actually play.
