I have not ice fished minnesota in30 years - The building & Disapearing of small cities on the ice awsome! The sacred citadel of the outdoors is now super portable. I remember six man lifting an 8 x 12 Eight hole shack onto a hayrack Iand down to the lake. This was quite comparable to a corner bar in a small town we lived next to. God bless those men who taught young men to be Sportsmens and gentle to this earth!

I just can't even. Those things look so cozy. Back in the dark ages I had oversized insulated carhartt coveralls that I used on the ice. They were huge. Fully dressed in winter gear, with boots and everything, I could climb into those coveralls and have room to move around inside. I remember eating a sandwich and drinking coffee inside them out on Georgetown lake and feeling like I was in a really tiny house. the best part was that they were so saturated with oil, tar, and other stuff that they were practically weatherproof. Anyway, I thought I was terribly clever, but these things are just over the top. Did one of them have a tv? That's awesome

@AlexTimm3 жыл бұрын
Right!? I need to get into aluminum fabricating in the future I think! I've still never understood why there is not a single company out there that makes them and sells them. Seems like something the Otter / Clam / Eskimo / Frabill companies of the world, or really any company could make a fortune off of!

Does anyone know what the heat reflective material is used to insulate and how it attaches?
@AlexTimm2 жыл бұрын
It's called Reflectix. Most guys just cut slits and use velcro around the bars, or just put between the canvas and the bars. Or you can go all out and use a spray adhesive if you want

Looking for a recommendation for a hub style house. Which has the best insulation Otter, Eskimo, Clam? Wondering too about the floor option for the clam. Is that useful?
@AlexTimm3 жыл бұрын
For hubs, my personal opinion is I would look at Otter or Eskimo, they both make good quality ones that are built to last, and as of now the only 2 brands that I know of with a full door opening to them on some of their models. I am not personally a fan of the clam floors, even though I know some people love them. I like the ability to have more flexibility in where I put my holes, especially when using a camera or livescope and you want them lined up in a certain area and space. I have found the foam mats to be awesome for hub floors

As a foot fisher the first one does nothing for me, why take a "portable ice house" and make it a tow-behind? I seen he wanted $8500 for it...ill buy a hard house for that.
@brady190711 ай бұрын
As a foot fisher you should then understand it’s cool and for rich people. Obviously it’s not practical for normal applications. Fatfish 949 i from Eskimo is much better and goes on sale quite often for under 300 dollars

@@AlexTimm Not that I know of. And since its discontinued...if you find one you should snag it. Great for smaller bodies of water if you plan to pull by hand and walk. Bigger lakes you'd want to tow it.

@AlexTimm3 жыл бұрын
There is a level of pride that goes into making it your own and it is fun to see the creativity. Definitely agree though, once you do a certain amount of additions they don't become nearly as portable
@garywest22502 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. The flipovers, no matter the size, were designed with mobility in mind. These are super cool to look at, but I know that if I'm fishing the same water as them, I'm catching more fish.

Oh yeah, I don't see these as super early ice shacks, I think most of these are for mid-late season ice when you can take a machine or a vehicle out with them. Or maybe worth it even early ice if you plan on camping out in it
@buckkuhlmann34613 жыл бұрын
All that for a portable? Just build a wooden fish house.
@AlexTimm3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I totally get it, I see the pros and cons to both. The thing that is cool about the portables being built out is depending on how you do it, it can still be pulled out by hand and collapsed down. I see a place for both and love the creativity that these guys have
