The geometric is a great recommendation - although apparently they are not good with gobies and I would prefer the goby ;( Multibar is a fish on my list - though I have read they do better in a pair. With the earmuff I think a Halichoeres is a must in any tank - I think the Iridis is the most gorgeous and yours looks amazing but in a way it's similar colors to Anampses Twistti (which I'd really like to find a healthy specimen of). Glad you recommended Genicanthus too which I feel would be on more people's list if they knew they were planktivores. I don't think its that they are found deep but I think it's that diet (or maybe they are in more open ocean). Great video - there should be more slightly obscure recommendations - and those anthias... you are saying they are more hardy than most as long as you feed multiple times a day? Something I should look at for sure ;)
@ReefDork5 жыл бұрын
My perchlet has been fine with a one inch Randall's goby although he has a pistol shrimp to help dig him a safety burrow. I think hawks and the like get an unfair reputation with gobies. My scarlet hawk would chase my Wheeler's goby at times but I don't think they do much more than that as a rule. Twistii wrasse is a good shout - there are some stunning wrasse out there. You're right about Genis and plankton. The anthias are still not necessarily easy but by reputation they're much less feisty and finicky than other anthias. And mine love the auto feeder. I'm only 6 months in but with chromis i've had they've dwindled in number long before now. We'll see long-term...

I have kept a Lamarck’s angelfish in my reef tank. Literally the most destructive fish that I’ve ever kept asides from the yellow tilefish. I had to put my Lamarck’s angelfish in my refugium because he destroyed corals. My tilefish killed a giant pink watchman goby in front of my eyes. He died of ich a few months later. What ended my reef tank you ask? A Desjardin's sailfin tang. Now it is a semi FOWLR with a few palys and a large false gorgonian coral. The tank has some interesting species. Here are some: Flame angelfish, banana wrasse, striped squirrelfish, pink spotted dottyback, longnose hawkfish, sixline wrasse, maroon clownfish female, domino damselfish, undulatus triggerfish, Picasso triggerfish, rectangle triggerfish, lyretail anthias, moorish idol, and one of the most unpopular reef fish; Yellow Brotulid.

Great video as always. Do you ever have issues with fish jumping out of your tank or damp in your room with an open top tank? I’ve always had tanks with hoods but the trend now seems to be open top. Interested to know your experiences
@ReefDork5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I have a lid, I just take it off for filming sometimes. I regularly see/hear my fish jumping out of the water so a lid is essential for me. My yellow wrasse made it out once when I had the lid off to move a coral! 🤦♂️

Reef Dork nightmare. My first marine tank was a TMC microhabitat a few years ago that came with a cover with about 1cm gap around the edge and one of my clowns managed to squeeze through that! Since then I’ve always had a tight cover and think I’ll continue that way! Do you have a mesh or transparent cover? Only recently discovered your channel so haven’t watched all your vids yet!

@@ReefDork I want one too. Any particular reason behind you not being so fussed on one? They aggressive? I've obviously done some research but until you've had one I suppose you just don't know. I had a red velvet fairy wrasse but he jumped when I spooked him picking a knocked over coral up in the night. Lesson learned, keep hands out of tank after dark. I was either going to get another one or the pink margin.. hmmm🤔🤔

1 love em 2 i prefer other rabbit fish besides the fox face 3 any halocoeres wrasse is fine by me, earmuffs though seem pricy compared to the basic "yellow coris (which is halochoeres) and melanurus wrasses, 4 angels tend to be coral eaters, so its a no go, only genicanthus genus for me . 5 as much as i love butterflies no way i will ever risk it. 6 love them the only angels i would get now, 7 not as pretty as other anthias in my opinion,
