My dream fish are fuzzy dwarf, parrot quoyi, blue spot tamarin wrasse, and blue striped tamarin Most of my dream fish are pretty cheap. I like them for the color and the way they behave. I have all of them but the blue line bc I don’t have 1+k to drop of a fish that doesn’t do well

For anyone who’s ever watched @reefdork videos over the years I’m looking for some clarity on setting up my tank. Alex suggests that on day 1 he turns the lights on the tank, doesn’t suggest whether that’s at a low intensity for a certain amount of time or a shorter photo period. But in another video advised on leaving the lights off for a month. Which recommended option is best. I have a Red Sea reef led 50 that I am currently running at 20% blue 10% white for 5 hours with 1 hour of moons at 10%.

So ammonia does not hurt corals (within reason)? I imagine nitrite is also not a huge concern?
@ReefDork3 күн бұрын
That's my understanding, so long as it goes away when the cycle completes. It's not harmful to fish in saltwater so it's common not to test nitrite at all.

for anyone wanting a small nem only tank, check out a small aio cube tank. dont put any extra powerheads in the display, and instead buy a bigger return pump. that way its enough flow for a simple nem tank without having any propellers in the display for them to get sucked into.

Thank you for sharing your experience on dealing with white spot and medicating, I have just recently finished recovering from a white spot outbreak roughly the same time yours started so i was waiting for this video to come out to compare experiences. I lost 9 fish similar to you but i didnt have the capability to have a quarantine tank, i used 'polyplab medic' for my medication method for 30 days. The parasite cleaered and there has been no signs of it for 8 weeks now and just started restocking the tank yesterday. I can understand the hardship of losing your fish with the emotional and financial aspect but again thank you for sharing as your video will help others in the future who will have white spot problems and allow them to battle it the best they can also allowing others to help/support them via your video comments. Top viedo 👍

All my fish were badly infected (In the gills too) with white spot, I dipped my pellets in freshly crushed garlic oil and installed a uv as per advice from an expert, I did not lose a single fish and the white spot never came back.

I have a great tip I only found out 6 mouth ago and it’s changed how I qt all my fish from now on so first of all I bring the fish up to temperature then I fresh water dip them for 10-15 minutes this is the main reason iv changed how I do things as the fresh water dip on the fish kills all diseases and bacteria on the fish so you have a clean fish then I observe the fish for 20 to 30 days but thinking of skipping this as since fresh water dipping my fish have always looked amazing
@briananuvattanachai66465 күн бұрын
I woukd at least do dips before a fish gets into a quarantine tank or into a display from one. There is a product called safety stop and the first part I believe contains formalin so that will treat your fish odf any velvet, brookylenlla or uronema.

Nice to have fish back in tank, no better time to get some fish in the freshly cleaned QT and do some observations, you could try & buy two or three at a time to speed getting the tank up & running, you should use your QT tank for larger fish and your Fluval evo for smaller fish, your tank will soon be stocked up again ☺️

Interesting, I occasionally get outbreaks of whitespot that shows up on my tangs but it never seems to cause any issues, they keep eating and are back to normal after a few days. I just kind of accept it's one of those parasites that's almost impossible to avoid.

Could just be stress in fairness
@ericgasparro25455 күн бұрын
@ that’s exactly it. It comes and goes depending on stress like any squabbles. I’d imagine what happened here was some fish developed white spot, had a dampened immune system and the brooklynella took over if it was present in the system or introduced on a new fish.

I had a HORRIBLE aptaisia outbreak in my mangrove tank, which is tied into my reef, and went with berghias to take care of it. I didn't realize just how long it takes for them to wipe out a bad infestation as you wait for them to reproduce enough to do anything. Almost 4 months before I noticed a difference, but then the aptaisia practically disappeared overnight. Not for the impatient Funnily enough, after that I started finding dozens of them in my sump, which was also loaded with aptaisia, so they did me a nice favor there. Better yet, suddenly the 3 or 4 stubborn aptaisia in the main display also disappeared out of nowhere and I knew damn well it wasn't my freeloading copperband or longnose butterfly 😂 Then late at night I saw a berghia crusing around on my overflow box and see a couple almost every night now, so they must've eliminated the aptaisia in that tank as well. Really surprising because I have a small army of wrasses in there, including a huge red ring wrasse, 3 leopards, anempses, and 5 halichores. Makes me wonder how true it actually is that wrasses will wipe out berghias. I think the nudibranchs hide so well during the day in the rockwork that the wrasses can't get to them and only come out at night when all the wrasses are asleep. I'm starting to have a go at breeding them to sell off now because the owner of my lfs wants a steady supply of them 😂
