Doing my first lead-came project. Finished soldering and now watching this and your framing video (repeatedly) as I wait for the newly mixed putty recipe (I purchased and downloaded from your store) to mix. I am grateful for all your videos and continue to learn from the Streeters!

I'm getting ready to putty my 2nd stained glass panel. Before this I always used foil. I recently found this video and purchased your recipe for the glazing. I bought the tools you have and I'm going to give it a whirl. Thanks for doing this video. The first piece I glazed I used putty I purchased at the local glass shop and added linseed oil.

Really enjoyed this video. I am a strong believer that the more work that you can do by hand instead of a machine or computer the more of your soul goes into your work. Also you glazing compound is that like a Sheetrock mud or grout for tiles? Thanks 🙏

The glazing is more like a pudding consistency.

Love seeing this whole process come to life. Beautiful polishing! Quick question I read the SDS sheets for the putty that you use for your recipe. In that sheet they recommended not using it for leaded stained glass. I guess over time they claim the putty will separate from the lead and cause leaks from weather. Have you ever experienced this with your recipe? At the moment I am using the traditional whiting mixture and it does make so much mess.

Hmmmm. Can you share that info? Is it the DAP 1012 you are referring to? We've used this recipe for over 35 years and we've found that it adheres tightly to the glass and lead and resists sagging, cracking, shrinking and chalking. The glazing forms an airtight and watertight seal. Thanks for watching and happy cutting!

@@ARTyRV www.dap.com/media/3846/1012-window-glazing-tds_5919.pdf This is the link I found regarding the dap 1012 sds data sheet. I’m not really sure why they suggest not using it especially since you have had such a great experience using it for so long!

Thanks for your video and the recipe! Once you make it, does it absolutely have to sit overnight before using it?
@ARTyRV Жыл бұрын
It’s recommended. It allows it to emulsify and it becomes a better consistency.

@@ARTyRV Ok, thank you. A couple more questions… how long does the putty take to cure and once it does, can I patina my zinc? You mentioned Sprayway glass cleaner… will it harm the lead?

This video has given me hope. Question: Would this method work on vertical (installed) applications? I am located in a city that doesn’t have stained glass restoration I am trying desperately to keep my stained glass front door insert and side light windows. Thank you for any and all advice, and I have saved the link for your secret recipe. My fingers are crossed!! ❤️
@ARTyRV2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can putty in place, but you’ll have to make a dryer mixture and hand putty. Wear gloves.

@@ARTyRV So not a slurry mix with a brush? More like traditional window glazing?
@ARTyRV2 жыл бұрын
@@charlieann82 Yes, the consistency of regular putty. Use your thumb to push into the lead.

Once the lead came window is cleaned and ready, how would you go back and reclean for general upkeep? What is the best way?
@ARTyRV Жыл бұрын
Hi Julie! Keep the window free of dust and dirt with a soft cloth. Sprayway Window Cleaner is a good cleaning is needed, it's ammonia free. amzn.to/42R4r3A

Use the Sprayway with soft acid brush and paper towels if more cleaning is needed.

I'm a novice stain glass worker but I want to get this window back in a church where it belongs.
