The Red Baron never was the best pilot of WW1. The french pilot René Fonck (nicknamed the Ace of the Aces) was far better, it's just than since the conditions to valid an official sky victory are differents from a country to another, all pilots were not on equals terms about official victories. And French validation conditions were so far stricter than any country in the world it was almost impossible to catch up with the German pilots.
