Motorcycle Security Systems - What you have to know?
In this video I am going to talk about popular locks on the market and will give you 8 very useful tips how to protect your motorcycle.
We love our motorcycles, it doesn't matter how much they cost. Our worst nightmare is to find out that the bike is stolen. I don’t want even to think about it. Let see what we can do to prevent this happens.
The first barrier against thieves is your ignition key system. It doesn’t matter how difficult is to unlock it, how many million combinations the key has or what kind of profile it is, it will be broken in just few seconds. They will use a special tool, known as “breaker”. It is a hard peace of steel, imitate the shape of your key. They insert it in the ignition and with the help of small wrench rotate it to the right. First they will unlock the forks and then will start your motorcycle, so simple, no more than 10 seconds. If you have new bike, build after 2000, you might have immobilizer system. This system won’t let the engine start unless is made with the original key. That is nice, so now you can sleep well. Not really! First of all, if you have expensive bike like BMW 1000 RR or Ducati, you have to know that thieves have s special software to start your engine without the key. Second it is a bike, it is not a car. It could be easy push out of your garage or even loaded in a van. You have to think for some kind of hardware to protect your motorcycle.

Park your bike in the worst area you can find. Leave it unlocked and keys in ignition. Then hide closeby with a crowbar and wait 10 minutes to eliminate all the scum moving in on your bike. Then go get dinner, leaving pile of wounded bodies next to your bike as deterant.

I agree with 99% of your points. The other 1% is that 99% of thieves are not creative. They look for the easiest take and like you say are "lazy", that's why they are thieves. Anything to simply "slow them down" will make them look elsewhere in most cases. I'm lucky to now live in a rural area in the states with next to no crime. I always use the tent fly rope method and thought I was the only one...I've had Elk wake me by tripping over my tent ropes before. LOL.

"Lock Placement" can be pretty effective. As you say, all we can really do is "slow them down"...and hopefully that will create too much risk for them. So turning the disc lock inward is very good, and I also place it on the rear in a spot between my brake caliper and where it comes close to the swing-arm. On my personal bike, I have a similar situation in front between the caliper and front fork. I am also authorized to park in 'Handicap Parking' [artificial hip, fractured lumbar, and artificial knee] so I back in and place a heavy cable around the sign post and the rear of the bike. [frame, if I can get close enough] And both of my disc locks have alarms...and I have a GPS Tracker embedded on the bike in a spot that they would never see it. Admittedly, if I am just stopping for lunch, I only use the rear disc lock with alarm activated. I figure that will slow them down enough for me to get there and put a stop to it all. If I am leaving the bike 'alone' for a while, I add the other devices.

I had a motorbike stolen in 1994. It was parked inside my locked garage with my car. The bike was on steering lock and would have to be lifted over the car to get it out unless you moved the car first. This was exactly what they did and at 3:20AM I ran down to see a utility truck with my bike on the back heading into the night. The point is if someone wants something they will take it regardless of how you try to make it a less attractive option to them. Always be insured and park wisely.

In my Country even if you park it in your bedroom the bad guys will come for it when they want bcos its an inside job. Someone close to you or someone in your neighborhood know all about you and your bike. As a mechanic who always lock every bike in my shop, the bad guys broke in and couldn't cut the heavy duty chain but they remove the tires leaving it in the chain and took the bikes without the tires. My solution now is pay security to watch over my shop at night. Oh by the way i also bought a shotgun, cant wait to avenge my lost motorcycles

That's all very good advice but one you forgot which will hold them up for at least five minutes is, let the air out of your front tire or both tyres for around 10 minutes and may just make them walk away flat tires. The best battery powered air pumps on the market take about five minutes per tire, if you have a good lock and an alarm that's a few minutes if your tires are flat that's a good few more minutes it all adds up. The one problem with leaving your bike in plain view is that you could end up getting a parking ticket especially in the UK. But always make sure you have a decent pump and if you are leaving your bike overnight, let the air out of your tires, they can't push it cos the bike won't move easy and with the alarm on it wouldn't be done quietly. I think letting the air out your tires/ front tire is the cheapest theft deterrent on the market as I have never seen a bike thief spend time pumping up tires, they usually move on it takes too long and it may be a puncture. Also have you ever seen those salvage guys struggle with a bike with flat tires, it's hard work and thieves are lazy. So I would say it's probably the most effective and cheapest anti theft method on the market, the price of a tire pump to pump up your tires when you go to ride your bike. No point doing this if you are only leaving the bike for a short time but if you are leaving it over night then this will help protect your bike.

Another tip that may be a bit far fetched but is important is to not ''advertise'' your motorcycle especially in your neighborhood. Living in a big city means that if somebody spots your motorcycle somewhere 10km away from your home unless they follow you around, you should consider yourself safe. Most of the thefts are done by people that live very close to you and spot your motorcycle everyday and can learn about your habits. As for ''public expositon'' dont park your motorcycle in places with few people but neither park it infront of a night-club and have it photographed among with the lady at the entrance and posted in fb to advertise the club (sounds stupid but i have seen many people do so where i live...). Dont park or show-up with your bike in parts of your neighborhood where scum like the ones that get involved in thefts and such stuff gather. Dont post pictures on fb or make them only visible to a very small group of trustful people. Dont talk big about your motorcycle unless you intent to sell it. It seems stupid but you know what your bike can do and that should suffice.

Actually some good advice there... "Social Media" has become an effective tool for thieves! "Google Maps" show what people have in their backyards, and possible 'routes' to a house that would be out of sight of neighbors, and people post Vacation Pictures...telling everyone they are NOT at home for the next 10 days...and so on. And the people in front of a club -- including the 'Bouncer' -- don't give 2 cents about your bike...and will be more likely to LAUGH while it is being loaded into a trailer than to call Police...

I have a BikeTrac tracker concealed deep within the bike. It is actively managed for £99 a year and if the bike is moved without the ignition key I get a text alert. The company work with the police and have a very good retrieval rate. I never leave the bike on my driveway for longer than absolutely necessary. You need an almax chain guaranteed uncroppable by hand even against record 42" bolt cutters. Some have protection against hydrolic cropers too. They did a video showing how the most used chains are cropped and it was scary. Between 3 second of jaw to chain action to 20 they were all cropped or shattered under pressure but not almax chains. 5 minutes and barely a scratch on them. Im not a sponser or affiliate of almax but i highly recommend. Ive lost bikes, my sons bike pinched and nearly my daughters quad. Almax have set a new standard for chains. This should be the new lowest standard allowed by companies but that eont change. Youll still be sold "5 min attack proof" chain thats cut and tossed in less than 30 seconds amd thats why im putting this. Dont spend 100s on stuff that wont last 10 seconds a side.

Invest in a decent GPS tracking device and hide it somewhere in the frame where a thief won't find it. If it's stolen you can find out where the scumbag has taken it. You then go pay him a visit with a few friends and introduce him to your baseball bats.

Step 1: Get some Police crime scene tape, arrange it in a circle around your parked bike. Step 2: Carry a piece of chalk and draw the outline of a human body next to your bike. Add some small puddles of ketchup in the outline. Step 3: Place an empty pistol holster on the seat, and scatter some empty brass shells around on the ground.

My bike was stolen out of the parking garage of my apartment building. 3 guys. 1 patrolling the garage while the others worked on the bike. took them all of 25 seconds to cut the lock with a battery grinder and maybe 20 seconds to break the steering lock. In and out within 6 minutes. Now I'm very hesitant to buy a new bike bcs they'll likely come and steal it again in 2 weeks.. Very interested in how I can make my bike more secure. Thx for the video

Unfortunately this things are happens. The best solution in your case is to install alarm system in the garage, not on the bike. I hope this will help to keep the thieves away from your bike. Thanks for watching!

Good tips. If you use a disc lock remember to put a rubber bad or a note on your dash. You do not want to drive off with it on :) Very good point on the cover as well, but remember to keep it plain black.. My friend bought a KTM 1290 Super duke, "the Beast" and he got a cover in bright orange with that name over it. Did it get stolen? Thieves love it when you tell them what's underneath. Best solution I have seen is a anchor in the concrete with a very shiny galvanized chain and lock running through the rear and the frame.

Dear Sir as all disk locking systems, also the granit 68 is not efficient. The thieves unscrew the bolts of the disk brake directly on the wheel hub and the wheel is free to rotate. Where all disk screws are not easily reacheble they unassembly also the brake caliper to move ahead the bike and have free access to all screws. Then they load the veichel on a van.

I traveled across India north south east west ,four times on Ninja 250cc,Honda 250cc and RE enfiled 500cc, they were almost new and very attractive as well each time I traveled. I cared less about my bike being stolen etc., but what I did was that I got in to hotels ,lodges etc., where there was safe parking. When there was no such space, the hotel managers took initiative and kept the bike after night 10 pm at a different place like near the hotel 's kitchen window etc., because any bike theft in nearby hotel will be taken very seriously by police in India. While on the go, I always parked the bike right in the front of the hotel and I always took my seat right behind window so that all the while I took my lunch ,dinner etc., I was watching my bike. And in hotels ,wayside motels when I stopped . I took care such a facility is there . Otherwise I just moved on. It was because to steal a bike from right in front of bar takes the thief only two minutes or at most three minutes !! you can watch youtube videos of bikes being stolen in India yourself . I am using only a break lever lock because if you are absent minded like me , your disc lock will break your bike disc for sure. I think fixing an alarm inside the engine ,under the seat and the loud speakers back and forth of the bike would be very good deterrent for thieves. I am going to fix this ( you need the services of professional electrician to fix these types) before my next journey.

It's very possible for two people to lift a 200kg motorcycle. I often have to lift or drag my drz400 out of the mud alone in the forests. It weights about 150-160 loaded up and I'm not particularly big and strong.
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 7 жыл бұрын
I can't agree with you and I will explain why: Did you lock your rear tire when you did it? Do it and try again. To lift one of the tires, or even both for a second, just to move it away a feet or two is one story, but to lift the hall bike(160kg) and move it 10 or 20m is different story and will be possible only for few people on the planet. You said that two people (200kg bike)will do it with no problem. How many people will have possibility to lift 100kg (very uncomfortably weight, not in the fitness) and walk with it? Yes, some may be, will drag it, push it, towed, but not really lift it. When you lock the rear wheel, they need to lift it completely (both tires in the air), made such a experiment and we will talk again. Thank you for watching and ride safe!
@SUPERCOOLZZ
@SUPERCOOLZZ 7 жыл бұрын
No, but I was lifting the bike against gravity. Since you posted I tested it by locking the rear. Yes, I can still move the bike by myself by lifting the rear and letting it roll on the front. There are plenty of videos on youtube of 2 men lifting a bike into a van. It's not that hard to do.
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, as I already said, nothing is 100% secure. You have to confess that is much more difficult, the forks are not lock and your bike is light. Can you imagine to make it with GS 1200? With all the luggage on. Or with Honda Goldwin? It just make the task difficult, not impossible.
@SUPERCOOLZZ
@SUPERCOOLZZ 7 жыл бұрын
So you go from being unable to agree with me to back-pedalling and saying that a 1200GS is heavier than my bike. I'm quite certain you used the words "almost impossible" or something similar in your video (apologies, no time to find exact wording). It's a lot more mature to acknowledge your mistake and move on rather than trying to defect.
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 7 жыл бұрын
My mistake? I really want to see how you lift your bike and move it 20 meters, post that video please. Not to lift it and make one step. Lift both tires, not only the rear. If you don't like the channel, you don't need to watch it, I just tried to help and I do have some experience with motorcycles.

Many years ago I used to loosen the rear brakes and remove a HT connector, to avoid bike theft. Today, alarms are useless and even with a bike securely locked, bike thieves will simply reverse a van and lift your pride and joy into the back. They even carry helmets incase anyone challenges them and they can just say that they are uplifting a broken down motorcycle. Theres little point in constantly worrying about the bike being safe, so why own one.
