Thanks for all this great info Eric, it helped me land my first KEEPER yellowfin tuna a couple weeks back. It was on chunk which I rigged up the way you have instructed here and in your other videos. Your chunking technique works great by the way, except that we could only land one of the three we snagged. Now, if you can do an instructional video on how to increasing our landing percentages of said yellowfin tuna that would truly be a hum dinger of a video! Maybe focus in on how to keep them from under the danged boat so the hull doesn't scuff the braid and let them snap it off. 😁

Awesome to hear that you got your first yellow! When chunking you will miss a few, that just happens! It’s tough to keep them from under the boat! I do try to put pressure on them like I did on the one in the popper video! Remember that if you rest the tuna rests and it will recover faster! Try to constantly pull the fish, even if it’s just 1-4 inches! Keep that pressure on! Shorter fights equal less lost fish!

Hi Eric, I'm looking to get the Berkley X9 #50 braid for my deep drop rod (because its the thinnest #50 braid I have been able to find .030mm) do you have a color recommendation - green vs. white? Pros Cons?
@ThumpemupFishingchannel4 ай бұрын
I don’t have a color preference other than indicator braid for jigging when using a conventional or spinning reel…. Maybe others can chime in. One thing to consider is that the white is a little easier to see at night.

Thank you very much for this video and your other video on GPB. I go on Williams Party Boat 36 hour Tuna trip in Sept. I have been looking for what to bring on the trip. I was really worried I would not have the right gear. I got a Penn Spinfisher 10500 with a carnage 3. Thanks to this video I think I should be good and I know what lures to get too. @@ThumpemupFishingchannel I am looking at getting set up for the 30 hour trip on the New Buc fortunately there are several set up options for YFT and appreciate the advice. Not sure if I want to invest $500 - $ 600 in a set up yet so basically looking at the cheaper ones for now. On the other hand I dont want to get out there and have equipment issues LOL
@ThumpemupFishingchannel2 жыл бұрын
@@Reelswift1 to keep it super cheap, get the ugly stick tiger lite jigging and casting poles in 60-80lb range if you can find one. Get a Shimano Spheros casting reel and a conventional jigging reel. You need 300 yards of 65 lb braid. An Avet will work. Get (or make) 80lb windon leaders and that’s all you need. I use cheap indicator braid on my conventional but really good castable braid on my spinning reels (Seaguar threadlock 50) to get that extra distance.

Do you ever have problems casting your wind ons? I tie bimini's and do a loop to loop with the windon. Will I be alright casting that rigging if my leader is 30ft long?
@ThumpemupFishingchannel Жыл бұрын
For casting I usually use a shorter wind on and try to keep the wind on short enough that it stays off the spool. With a loop to loop you really should not have a problem casting the wind on though.

@Thump’em up Fishing channel that's my plan. Do you tie to swivel or a solid ring between leader and lure?
@ThumpemupFishingchannel Жыл бұрын
@@josiebos7282 if a Halco I use a barrel snap swivel or a SPRO snap. If tying to a jig, I tie to a barrel swivel and use a split ring on the other end to swap out the jig. I also attach my assist hook to the bottom of the barrel swivel as well.
