I've had my Motu M2 since the 2nd week it was released in May 2020 and I couldn't be happier with it. Regarding the "special" sounds (e.g., 4K, Air, Vintage), my take is 4K (by quite margin), followed by Air and then Vintage. I imagine my take might change, depending on what we're listening to. This typed, if I were recording, I'd never use any type of filter, as I'd want all sounds to be as clean as possible so that they can be saved as sources, which can then be manipulated as versions. As an aside, the SSL2+ has MIDI ports (and since you mentioned the Volt 276, I don't understand why this wasn't mentioned). Why didn't you talk about preamps? Out of all of these, the SSL2 probably has the best preamp, followed by the Audient. Love the meters on the M2. I don't know. My ranking might be SSL2, ID4mk2, Volt, M2, Focusrite.

All of those "flavours" can be done manually using EQ and amp simulator software (which is all they are) after recording. They're not very good features in my opinion, as you can't undo them if you use them, but you can always add their tone later if you don't. I don't see any reason why an interface should give you anything but a clean signal. Regarding the PreSonus 24c being quiet: their 26c, which is the next model up, has substantially more dynamic range on the mic pre-amp. They are the same pre-amps, so they must've nerfed the gain on the 24c as artificial market segmentation. If you really want PreSonus (their bundled software is good), consider stepping up to the 26c if you plan on using mics that might need more gain. I think the only other difference is it comes with two additional balanced 1/4" outputs, and it also pushes the price up close to the more expensive ones shown in this video, but still in the same range.

I think the importance of differences in sound between these units completely depends upon the type of music you're creating/recording/mixing. If you're doing quiet solo, sure, spend the money. But if you're mixing with even moderately loud instruments it doesn't really matter which unit you choose. It's kinda like choosing one color for your guitar over another color, as if the difference in sound is noticeable. There's an expression: getting lost in the weeds? Great comparison video though. I personally like the small, inexpensive, light-weight plastic gear. It'll be obsolete within a few years anyway and I'll be on to the next best thing. i.e. I have 13 old smart-phones that have one by one become obsolete over the past few decades as smaller, lighter phones with more features and memory come on the market.

I have my SSL2+ right here and here I am feeling it out, knocking it knuckles down, tapping at it as I'm listening to your "not as sturdy as others" comment and thinking "my goodness, is he high?" lol... The unit feels anything but cheap, it's dense, heavy, the faceplate is solid metal, with a very dense, rugged plastic casing all around, and you're thinking "ooh....I'd be careful when traveling with this one". Most of the 2ins don't have the input/playback knob, generally the 4ins have it, so i've always got the bigger model. Motu feels 100% higher quality build to a scarlett and is suoer smooth and quiet. IMO, those air enhancements mess up the sound. I could write a book about why i will never have a scarlett again. (i ended up with an M6) Edit: They all sound acceptable. Ya this scarlett sounds ok, m2 and audient sound good too. Others may be brighter and/or harsher. Fwiw, M6 has all cables out the back and 2 headphone jacks with separate volumes. It is so posh haha. Also a separate power supply and a power switch is nice vs usb power which can get really wonky and noisy when windows acts up and what if i'm practicing and don't need my pc on but i want to monitor? You can't with usb power unless you rewire. I could write a book....

please tell me, I am facing the choice of an audio interface. My tasks are: streaming with an xlr studio dynamic microphone, voiceover, and listening to music with good headphones for a bit. I am interested in the audio interface where the best output sound quality and stable software are best. The price is up to $ 200. I am considering options: focusrite 2i2 4 gen, universal audio volt2 (there is also interest in 276, but it costs $ 270 already) and motu m2. In terms of accessibility, this is focusrite, judging by the reviews and especially because of the vintage sound, this is volt 2, but there are also many people who prefer motu. Well, a small addition, I considered the arturia minifuse 2 and Audient id4 mkll options, but judging by the reviews and the videos I watched, they have good sound, but not the best like these 3 models. Can you tell me which of these models would be best in your opinion and why?

Does the USB connection on these interfaces just provide power or do they also send 'data' (audio signal) to the interface? Do I need to use a 1/4"/XLR/mic connector to get sound into the interface? Can I connect my computer using USB and then use 1/4" outputs for powered studio monitors? Thank you for your time.

You need to release that September remix at the start!! It’s such a vibe!

Hi Sanjay, very cool comparison of these budget friendly interfaces. 👍🏻 Somehow I miss the Apogee Boom, which is also in this price range meanwhile. I have it and use it for vocal recordings „on the road“. In my studio I have the Antelope ZenQ, the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 primarily for external MIDI-modules and keyboards, a keyboard mixer so to say, and also the Mackie BigKnob Studio+, a Monitor controller that could also be used as an Audio interface, which I don’t do. Honestly I didn‘t hear worth mentioning differences between these interfaces, but my very cheap Superlux headphones which I use with my iPad at the moment and my declining hearing ability (I’m 67) could be blamed for that. So far so bad, GAD. 😜

Any chance to have the full project for download so we can listen to the raw Wav without the youtube compression?

I had the SSL 2+ for just over two years and it died outright. There was no damage, power spikes, or other external insult that should have caused it to fail, but it quit outputting audio. I went through the process of checking cables, drivers, firmware, etc. but nothing could get it back. It behaves as if some internal component failed. Luckily for me, I had my old Focusrite 6i6 which the 2+ replaced and was able to use it instead. It has it's own issues, mainly that it periodically disconnects and has to be restarted (WinPC). I'm looking at a new unit going forward, but I'm inclined to spend a bit more money because my higher end UA Apollos (Mac) have worked for years without fail or glitch.

Thanks a lot for this video, just wondering why you left out Roland’s audio interface?

I have seen many of your videos. You tell the truth about all the products. If it is good then you say good and if it is bad then you say bad. I have a lot of faith in you. Sir, I want to record my poetry professionally. Please tell me a good microphone and audio interface which will give me professional recording quality. My total budget is within 350 dollars. I will wait for your reply 🙏🏿
